Getting up-close with a hummer is quite the experience. The chirping and the loud humming (that you can practically feel) really heighten the senses. Glad to see that you don't use red dye either, as it is unnatural and unnecessary.
OMG! I saw my first hummingbird this season, for the second time. I was so thrilled being really near, like eight feet. Ha! Ha! This is so awesome! It takes patience, love and time, to create something so magical. THEY LOVE YOU! Smiling. You remind me so much of my daughter Katie. The facial expressions, kindness, your great love of all nature, and experiencing just being. Exceptional sharing. Thank you!
That is awesome. What part of the country are you in ? And yes, it would be great to plant stuff the like: bee balm, hibiscus, gladiolas, even petunias, plumbago and Mandevilla. Texas hummingbird stage is another one and I even had some around hollyhocks and a zinnia-looking sunflower variety.
You should create a hummingbird garden using native nectar plants. There are websites that offer a plant list based on your location of the country like the pacific northwest and so on. They like large patches of one plant.
simply amazing

Close your mouth, girl. You don't wanna scare them away with those lashing teeth. You're carnivore, remember?

Try Penstemon varieties. They do great in poor soil and it looks like that is what you have.
