er1 is just a sampler and ea1 is just synth.

emx has everything, plus the er1 needs software for synths and drums.

ea1 is a fun and cheap rack synth though.

The ER1 is a virtual analog drum synth. It doesn't do samples. It is not replaced by the EMX1 or ESX1.

The ES1 *is* a sampler. It is replaced by the ESX1.

The EA1 is a virtual analog synth that does melodies. It has two synth parts. It is replaced by the EMX1 that can do 5 synth parts.

The EMX1 has 5 melodic synth parts so it will replace the EA1 that does only two melodic synth parts.

For drums, if you want PCM sample-based real-sounding drums, the EMX1 alone will work.

If you want synthetic electro-drums, you would have to keep an ER1 around, whether you combine it with the 2 synth parts of the EA1 or the 5 synth parts + PCM drums of the EMX1.

The ER1 is a unique box for electronic analog drum sounds.

TIP: on inexpensive digital cameras, you can pop off the focusing lens cover and adjust it even further so it can focus on close-ups very well.
