Although, for "dubstep" i would say it usually only takes the sampling and fx factors from the term "dub".

@TheOnepoop dub was a style that started from the engineers working recording reggae music. and they would do the engineering for the original, then do an exstended dub remix. so when it got pressed to vinyl there would be the original on the A side and the exstended dub remix on the B. people like king tubby ect(who called what he did drum and bass in the 60's) then people in the uk in the late 90's started doing dub style remixes of 2 step tunes, that would make it to the B side. hence dubstep
