Luca's too young, and by all aspects, not really an important character. His death wouldn't even matter to the viewers. But people like Michel or Ozma are the ones that will leave an impact upon their death. They were like big brothers and somewhat a rival to the protagonist, and have their own stories to make them interesting. Of course, one of them had to die, and since Ozma's close call is too similar to Roy Focker's death from the original, the only choice left had to be Michel, damm!
