No I wouldn't say they were soft by any means, but it doesn't really hurt to hold them unless they get scared and turn into a little spiky ball lol. They do have soft bellies though =)

whenever i hold my hedgie like that, he never relaxes and spreads out the way yours does. what can i do? help please! you seem like you know alot about hedgehogs!

You could try holding a treat where your hedgie can smell it, to see if it unrolls to investigate. That usually drags Iggy out if he is being shy.  If your hedgie unrolls to eat the treat do your best not to scare it while it's out. Maybe if you do it enough it will help. good luck!

@TheSquawlady It's only illegal to keep a european hedgehog, like the ones you see in the garden.

It is COMPLETELY legal to keep an African Pygmy hedgehog in Britain because theyre are completely domesticated and dont exist in the wild. :)

Hedgehogs are not a million dollars. I think I paid around $250 for Iggy and everything else...so his cage, food, running ball, bedding, and various other things he needed.

I wish I had that kind of money to just spend on pets lol

@sonicxlover135 have fun trying to find one under 150.00$.. even from a petstore their 150+. the cheapest ones i found were 159.99 with nothing but the pet and they were from a breeding farm sadly. I paid a little under 400 for everything, litterally everything. The hedgehog, cage, food and water dishes, a ball, a wheel, an igloo, bedding, a litter pan, 4 pounds of food, meal worms, the vet bill, and some other stuff. do a bit of research before you buy one. look at Exotic pet stores for them.

His coloring is a type of snowflake. i can't remember exactly because there are a couple snowflake variations. He didn't get much bigger than he is in this video.  He's about the size of both my hands cupped together now and he shouldn't get any bigger.

I bought Iggy in a pet store near where I live. But depending on the laws in your state, hedgehogs might be considered illegal. I live in NC and there are even private breeders that sell them. I'm pretty sure...not 100% but I think hedgies are illegal in California and a couple other states too. So if you are really interested in getting one, you should first make sure they are legal where you live.

not really. well unless they feel threatened, then they really spike up...that hurts. one time Iggy stabbed me under my fingernail. that didn't feel good at all! but when they are calm it doesn't really hurt. i mean they are definitely not pillow soft by any means lol but they are just a little prickly.
