I actually loved Robocop 2 as well, hated Robocop 3 (who didn't). I've said this before, they could easily make a working Robocop 4 (completly ignoring 3) with the same actors from the first movie.

Could feature a more darker sinnister feature, murphy is older etc.

Robocop is more of a tragedy than it is an action movie to me. The loss of the life he had as Murphy is like someone losing their childhood violently, everyone they loved moved on and forgot about you. Sad stuff inside an action movie about corporate greed. I argue that it is also about people being subjected to losing their humanity for the will from the machine that is the system.

People look back, take Robocop as a movie for kids.

Yes, they took a cheesy Hollywood movie idea but refined it, turned it into something more. It's perhaps the only "futuristic" movie that holds up his premise even today. Look at the world around us. Violence, corporativism, stupid societies that are being spoon-fed in what to believe, our human identity fading away because of heavy mechanization.

This song pays great respect to what the film's really about. A big applause for the makers.

@bladerj One problem. We still haven't quantified the "ghost" as they called it in Ghost in the Shell. That certain... je ne sais quoi... that makes us human. That makes a full body cyborg different from a robot. Until we do, we can't really do a GitS style cyberization. Although we might be able to do something more like in Appleseed or, well, Robocop, where we replace most of the body, but leave the brain.

The whole OCP thing was pretty good social commentary in the 80s I thought, the privatisation of everything and the adverts were good, same goes for starship troopers

Robocop: a movie nobody wanted to make. Writer/co-producer Edward Neumeier said the title, "Robocop" prompted hang-ups, "that's a joke, right?", & 0-Interest from a Director. Verhoeven threw the script across the room; his wife picked it up; read it. It was only by her urging, that he directed. Robo pays much tribute to westerns. Love the final scene, Murphy swinging open the OCP Board Room Doors, like a gunfighter to saloon doors, to the dismay of the crook who thought he'd been taken care of.

@tamski1967 the 2nd movie was ok, but i didn't like the kid being the villain, i just couldn't take him seriously, but his death, while deserving, makes you kinda feel bad. also, after watching robocop, i expected murphy to be much more "human" in personality, but the sequel just kept him as monotonous which annoyed me. the action in 2 was fantastic though, but robocop 3 was just laughable. peter weller left, and his replacement made robocop act worse

I love the cinematography, visuals and overall production design of Paul Verhouven's "RoboCop". Just look at 1:46, I don't really know why I like this shot so much. Maybe because of the clouds, or the "futuristic" buildings and costume. :)

It's been a long time since I've seen Robocop. History remembers it as a cheesy action flick~ and as a kid all I could remember was the action itself and some of the comedic elements. This has reminded me why Robocop was such an amazing movie, scored by the same composer as Conan: Basil Poledouris. An amazing cast~ incredible action... and a lasting story. I was excited for a Robocop remake, but now I'm not~ because it, like many other 80's classics deserve to be timeless.

He intentionally overdid everything to try and point out how stupid action movies were starting to become. But lo' and behold nobody actually got it and it's now a cult classic.

@TheMajinTrunks Where the hell are you getting this? Watching the features, and listening to interviews it becomes obvious that though the movie is a satire, it's not a satire of action flicks. Paul Verhovan made the film to be about a robotic jesus character to save us from our sins. Our "sins" being the modernization of the world.. Technology became our downfall in his cautionary tale, and their own technology comes back and bites them in the butt. Murphy is murdered and reborn as a savior.
