@Ozznize Joint locks aren't allowed in the UFC because it causes too much injury to the fighters. In other leagues there might be some allowed, but in the UFC I can confirm they are not allowed.

Official matches are great an all and mma fights are 'as real as you can get' but they still aren't real fights, they have rules that hinder alot of styles.
If you are training for anorganised fight that forbid techniques that end fights quick to make it more watchable then aikido is not for you.
@MrBrenbenn imagine a kick boxer who meets an aikido practitioner on the street and they start to argue and it leads up to a fight. the only thing the aikido practitioner could is wonder why he is getting beat up so bad and why the kick boxer isnt doing any jackass flips that you see in aikido demonstrations. there are leagues where joint locks are allowed, still no aikido and still for the previously mentioned reasons.
@Ozznize segal was a very respected sensei in japan for many years before his movie career. there is a reason that joint locks are not allowed in MMA . try to superman-punch segal and he would probably yank your arm out of it's socket, even with his beer belly. plus, he wails on the guitar.
@Ozznize Just wanted to also point out that you never know how 2 martial arts will compare in a fight until they are actually in one. As well, you will never see a sanctioned AIkido fight, because Aikido is completely a self defense martial art.
Also, you obviously have never trained in AIkido, but those flips are actually preventing the ones being flipped from serious harm. If they didn't flip or roll, they would end up with broken wrists, arms or ankles. I have seen it happen at my dojo once

@SD4090 you are ridiculous if you think that the country of something will define everything. aikido being from china doesnt mean that it is an all powerful martial art. i once sparred against an aikido user and truth be told wasnt impressed at all. if aikido really had some genuine power as a fighting style you would see it being used at fights where different martial artists using different styles of martial arts face off i.e. UFC

@Ozznize Aikido is not an art of battle, it is an art of self-defense. It is built off the philosophy of redirecting violence and stopping it rather than to continue it or intensify it. Also, Aikido is Japanese, not Chinese.

This art was developed by a peace-loving society to fend off attackers from stealing their peace. It worked back then very effectively and it still works today. It is all dependent on the individual wielding it.

Official matches are great an all and mma fights are 'as real as you can get' but they still aren't real fights, they have rules that hinder alot of styles.
If you are training for anorganised fight that forbid techniques that end fights quick to make it more watchable then aikido is not for you.

@MrBrenbenn imagine a kick boxer who meets an aikido practitioner on the street and they start to argue and it leads up to a fight. the only thing the aikido practitioner could is wonder why he is getting beat up so bad and why the kick boxer isnt doing any jackass flips that you see in aikido demonstrations. there are leagues where joint locks are allowed, still no aikido and still for the previously mentioned reasons.

@Ozznize Just wanted to also point out that you never know how 2 martial arts will compare in a fight until they are actually in one. As well, you will never see a sanctioned AIkido fight, because Aikido is completely a self defense martial art.
Also, you obviously have never trained in AIkido, but those flips are actually preventing the ones being flipped from serious harm. If they didn't flip or roll, they would end up with broken wrists, arms or ankles. I have seen it happen at my dojo once
