If you dont have this game yet and reading this.. dont attack the guy sitting down near the bonfire. He will keep attacking you when you respawn untill you can kill him. And that will take you a little while. Trust me.

@jusam10 No, Skyrim is just different. Skyrim's focus is on open-world exploration while Dark Souls has focus on tactical, strategic and intimate combat. Not really two game designs that you can easily compare.

hey question, is dark souls a lot like demon's souls but with more frequent checkpoints? That's the main reason I didn't likethe first game. Replaying huge chunks of gameplay is an annoying way of punishing you.

It's a lot like Demons Souls in terms of gameplay.. but you still have to replay large chunks of gameplay at times.. the bonfires are checkpoints but sometimes they are far away from the bosses.. and some levels don't even have a bonfire. If you didn't like Demons Souls you probably won't like this.

I reached the second playthrough in demon's souls. It really is a tough game. Somehow I don't think this guy made it very far because he didn't recognize the crow that in demon's souls was in a tree.

What exactly is an Undead in this game?

@gumball2038 If you get killed you lose your humanity. In demon's souls you would lose half your health permanently if you became undead unless you had a certain ring, forgot what it was called, which reduces the amount of health reduced as an undead. It is an incentive to NOT die, as hard as it is to avoid. After defeating a boss or using a certain item that is hard but not too hard to come by you can restore your humanity, therefore restoring your health to its maximum.

If you become undead you are lose a large portion of your health permanently. But it also lets you feel a bit safer for some reasons. As an undead you can join in other peoples games to collect souls without risk of losing them as when you die you still keep the souls gained but you only get half as many souls as you normally would. As a human you have full health but you are at risk of being invaded by pvpers.
