Hay David H. it looks like the collar on your shirt is not straight ? and your standing a little too close to Tony , maybe you need to re-shoot the spot ? please ?
I have Aspergers and GAD and I love that characters like monk and jerry espenson show that we are people too and I would love to see christian clemenson as jerry or not do a PSA for Aspergers.
I've got OCD and the show Monk kept be from actually getting treatment because the main character looked mousey, mentally retarded, and socially inept. I knew I wasnt any of those things but I felt that if people knew about my OCD that they would think I was like Monk. Silly I know but now Im sort of mad, it took me another 10 years before I could get help due to this shows stereotyping of people with OCD. I should sue. Because of this stupid image of Monk being retarded.
That comment was pathetic. "You should sue?" A television show that has ONE character, Albeit the main character, that portrays an array of compulsions; and that somehow MADE you not seek treatment?
I wish I could just say, "Good luck getting a lawyer who would initiate that claim." And then leave it at that, but I cannot.
First of all I'd say you're lying. Or at the very least embellishing.
But if not, you realize it was the OCD itself that kept you from seeking help? And not the show?
Furthermore! I just watched your "Intro to OCD" video and to be honest you like fine -- quite calm actually.
I do not claim to know the disease and I definitely saying I know what goes on inside your mind, pal, but if you do have OCD you must control it well. That video was 9 minutes long and you sat completely still and explained everything perfectly.
I'm sure what you do off camera is much different, and I'm glad you seem to be trying to educate people on the disease, but your ---->
"I'll should sue Monk" comment was just plain ridiculous. They do not poke fun in a negative way about OCD in that show AT ALL. Tony has won emmy's for his role as Monk, because he put his heart into researching the disease; and if anything, his role shows people how hellish the condition really is.
Truly, it should emphasize getting help. Then again I highly doubt the scale of your condition is even comparable to Monk's (though his is fictional, I'm aware).
or Embarrassment of speaking to someone about it? Frankly, that's ridiculous.
I hope you get better soon, if it's really as bad as you're trying to make it seem.
I have no ill-will is towards any sufferer of this disease. By all means, seek psychiatric assistance if you even think you have a mental condition. A professional SHOULD be able to diagnose you.
Don't self-diagnose. Everyone has their own layers of paranoia. In certain situations the mind can make you think all sorts of things.
