I've got an opportunity to get my hands on one of these kits in Piano Black for $800. The kit is in near mint condition. You think that's a good deal? I think it's phenomenal cause I've heard that these retail for over 2G's.
@SilverFoo79 i need your advice i play lots of different genres mainly metal not blast beats though i also play sort just general rock but i was wondering which cymbals to get like your old zildjian or these sabian
@AFatGypsyFanny Well.. there are a couple of factors. This is the biggest factor. What do YOUR ears tell you? Do you like more 'tone' from your cymbal? or do you want it just to be LOUD and cut through LOUD music? I loved my AAXplosions. They had great tone and they cut for the style of music I was playing. It's entirely up to what your ears want to hear. As far as tuning my drums.. I tune to feel for the kick and I tune my reso heads on my toms just a tad above the tops.
@SilverFoo79 well about half a year ago i bought a 18 a medium thin crash brilliant finish and i love it also if you know anywhere that will do a 20 or 19 in a brilliant that will be nice but yea i always like to stick with one brand so im going to go with zildjian just one thing your ride the old one could you use it for metal on videos i cant tell
@AFatGypsyFanny Yeah man.. ZIldjian A's are the standard when it comes to Zildjian. Like I said, it's all in what YOUR ears tell you. As far as the ride I used to have.. I would not recommend that for metal. It's way to thin. It was a 21in Sweet Ride. Look for a Rock Ride (way more projection and not as washy) OR a Projection Ride in the A Custom series if you can find one. That's what I would do. But again.. it's all in what your ears want to hear! :)
I have been contemplating getting that same kit. Same color and everything. Only difference really is I already own a set of AA Metal-X cymbals. I am happy to know that the kit sounds good even through a standard camera mic.
@beatleguy64 agree and disagree, tom heads that remo makes are awesome, emperor clear is perfect, but for "pre muffled heads" i prefer the ec2sst over the pinstripe, they both make good snare heads, evans is more spesific on what every head sounds like so it's easier to find what your looking for, on the bassdrum i think it's a clear evans win, remo has absolutely no bassdrumhead worth mentioning, whilst evans have lots of nice bd heads, altho i'd prefer aquarian on my bd hehehe;)
@gulfwind94 Well, at the time I purchased these.. I was working at Guitar Center, so I got them at an employee discount. Typically, a Pearl 4 pc shell pack is around 1500 for a 10, 12, 16, 22 configuration. I special ordered the sizes and color I wanted (luckily, Pearl had them in stock at the time..) 8x7, 10x7, 12x8, 16x16 and 24x18. I got them all for around 1650 after tax.
Hey man...I'm insanely blown away by how amazing this kit sounds dude and you are a solid player. I'm curious tho...I play Evans, Sabian, and a pearl kit. Nothing this good but my evans make it sound great lol. I'm curious why your choice in the ECSSTs for the toms? and what do you use on the bottoms?
@stix2690 Thanks for the kinds comments! I chose the SST's because I had gotten them for free.. LOL I used to work for a music shop (guitar center) and the Evans rep came in one day and I asked him to send me all new heads for my new kit. So he asked me what I wanted and I emailed him.. one week later I got everything I asked for. :) I initially liked the heads, but I became ear fatigued with them just as quickly. I do prefer REMO about 80% of the time. However, there are some great(more)
@stix2690 (cont'd) innovative features that Evans has. As far as the bottoms, I chose
the Genera Resonants. Which was a huuuuuge mistake. The thinner the head, the shorter the sustain. I will always use an ambassador type weighted head from now on. In Evans, that would be a G1 clear. Any other questions, feel free to ask!
@SilverFoo79 See Im all about my Evans. lol Free sounds very promising. LOL send some my way lol jk. But about the tom sizes, how did you get it the 7'' depth for both high toms? I didn't see an option for that online. At least not at Musician's Friend or Guitar Center. And which free floater snare is that?
@stix2690 Sorry, the description is a mistake.. it's 10x7 and 12x8.. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I used to have an 8x7 (check the other vids wit evans g1 coated heads) As far as the free floater is concerned, in this vid, it's the maple shell (same maple as masters kit I'm playing) and it's a 6.5x14 with the newer throw off and adjustment. The shell is just black. I had at one point the maple shell and a brass shell. I think overall, I preferred the brass for most situations.
@ps3geek182 it's really just a personal preference. I like coated on birch and clear on maple... although.. coated sounds great on anything.. (in my opinion..)
@SilverFoo79 I have the pearl reference series. I am torn between which heads and how to tune. DO you have a drum dial ? I will comment on the edges of my kit, I have them cut to match the masters series. I NEED a 24x18 kick man the 22 just doesnt compete. please email me at lespaul827@aol.com
hey thanks for the video! im still waiting for my chestnut fade kit - im going to try to put up a video when i get it. Thanks again, more people need to hear pearl masters - man they ROCK!!!
@rhythmantic The session customs were some of the best kits Pearl had.
Buyers were seeing the value of the sessions and buying those over masters. (from what I remember) They discontinued those and dropped the price of the masters kits (made in taiwan) to be more affordable.
I love that fill you do at :40. All single stroke, simple, yet your dynamics really brought somethin' cool out. I really like seeing that. On another note, nice camera angle, and sick drumkit. Keep playin'.
@voltronthegreat I'm not really a super hard player.. so I have not had an issues with warping or shape loss.. They still sound as good as the day I got them..
ur toms sound so goood

You said to feel free to comment so I will. I don't really understand why people use Evans since Remo just makes better quality heads.

@beatleguy64 Yes. Agreed. I do prefer REMO over EVANS for sure. Especially on a Birch Masters I had.
