Madlib is amazing with percussion, just listen to his hop hop beats and you would know that. What he is doing here is messing around. Who cares if it isn't the best thing that's ever happened, he looks like he is having fun and that's the main thing.

the yesterdays new quintet tracks are definitely bad ass. while he did record a majority of the meandering keyboard sounds, the drums were in fact lifted and sampled from a bunch of different records. they are not recordings of madlib playing drums.

madlib is one of the most talented, creative, and outstanding hip hop producers ever...but he is definately not a skilled drummer! he even admitted that he doesn't know how to play instruments, he just horses around. karriem riggins and ?uestlove are top notch jazz/hip hop drummers, especially karriem. much respect to madlib though!!

this is total shit. he plays like a 4 year old. just because you can make random noise on a couple of different instruments doesn't mean you're a "multi-instrumentalist". his beats and samples are outstanding. so he should stick to pressing the pads on his mpc. i think the hype has gone to his head. play drums. but do it at home. einstein was brilliant. but that doesn't mean watching him take a shit is going to be anymore exciting...

I love madlibs drums coz you can tell he aint been taught and he's just come across his own way of feeling it. I mean sure, there are some big gaps in his technique coz he aint learnt that way, but it's cool coz he's able to just play his ideas. A lot of drummers technique dictates their ideas, but the best music comes when the ideas dictate the technique. knaaamean?

pretty sure he can read notes if his grandfather was Otis Jackson. He musta learned a couple of instruments when he was young. Its like learning a new language. If you know 2 languages by the time your 10 its likely you can learn 3-4 more.
