the unequal length ama,s are better at handling the large Hawaiian swell

the longer ama acting as a great counter weight with crew on

and acting as brace on opposite tack with the crew on smaller ama

thousands of years of trial and error produced these craft

amazing . I built a proa a few years ago ,but these are more like trimarans . Is there a reason for the unequal lengths of the outriggers on both sides ?
