One of a handful of intersections in the DFW (much less State of Texas) that have vertical traffic signals. Most are horizontal!

@CapPicard I'm in Denver and I know of one intersection in the whole city, which is possibly the only one in the whole state, where they're horizontal. It's at the entrance of an upscale office park so I'm convinced they mounted them horizontally just to make the entrance there more extravagant or something.

But I'm used to verticals as well so it's strange anytime we go visit Dallas. There are just a few other states where the norm is to mount signals horizontally.

This intersection is located in Grapevine, TX. I looked this up on Google maps, and it appears the signal for oncoming traffic (across from the tracks) has a "smart traffic movement" neon sign (which you may see the rear of in this video), which directs traffic in the left lane to turn left, while directing traffic in the right lane to go in either direction (straight ahead, left, or right) when no train is present.

Whats a pre-emption sequence and a limited sequence?

Pre-Emption: When a train is approaching, the traffic lights will switch red for the street parallel to the tracks and give the cross street a green light so as to clear the tracks before the gates go down and the train arrives.

Limited Seq: The traffic light continues to 'cycle' for traffic that can continue to go (but won't allow, for example, a left-turn arrow over the tracks)

A.P means the light is making its sequen to change T.C.G means the light turns green so the cars can get off the track before a train comes L.S. means the light will go through a different sequen reacting to the train got it now ^_^

Apart from the railway interest, note how the second truck waited until it was safe to cross the crossing instead of proceeding because the light had turned green. This is a good example of defensive driving and a lesson we should all remember.

The second truck is supposed to stop at all RR crossings when he or she is hauling Hazmat. they are supposed to stop 15 to 50 feet away from the line.

This is great because it shows what is SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. I take it you would have preferred the semi loaded with petroleum products to move in front of the moving passenger train.
