  • I've seen this in action on a 6 series BMW, its great in foq, heavy rain, and unlit country road situations. I know it displays on the centre idrive console but it still catches your eyes as soon as you see a warm object.

  • Long wave infrared does not pass thru water. It does not work at all in rain. In fog (standing still) it works pretty good. But when the vehicle starts driving, the fog condenses on the lens and again it does not work very well. But the quality depends on the water content in the fog.

Now they do work great in darkness. Next generation will feature pedestrian detection so that will be a big improvement. But performance in bad weather is still a problem.

  • Hahaha, does anyone else notice how the lights are directed downwards? Usually you could see a lot further))

  • which cars are these on. i dont know if any american bmw have that or do they?

  • So you have to keep looking at that screen while you are driving at night?

  • That is correct, and it doesn't work well in rain, snow, or fog.....still some work to do IMHO.

  • Available on BMW 7-Series and I think 5-Series. $2,500 option. As an aftermarket set-up.....it would cost you like $5K or $6K.

  • you glance at the screen as you do your rear view mirror, and side mirrors while driving. I added a forward facing night-vision camera to my vehicle as well... it's much handier than you could imagine. (mind you, I do a lot of night driving out in the country roads.)
