Well originally the end credits we just saw, the ones right here, came IMMEDIATELY after the Peppermint Mine scene and that was the original ending. For subsequent broadcasts, the Peppermint Mine scene was dropped in favor of the return to the Island of Misfit Toys.
The DVD release from about ten years ago has both endings strung together! The Credits are the later generic ones however.
@baxterfilms From what I heard, viewers didn't initially like how they just left the Island of Misfit Toys out at the end. So in 1965, the ending was redone with a new sequence where they land on the Island of Misfit Toys and invite them to come with them on the journey, then during the credit sequence the elf delivers each of the misfit toys instead of generic gifts with the credits on the wrapping paper. In most cases, the 1965 credits are the only ones seen nowadays
This would explain the sound effect synchronicity with the misfit toys flying from the sleigh in the second closing sequence. Thanks!!

Wow, black and white. What year did it come to color?

@ClaymationCenter The original broadcast was in color, but apparently the only surviving print of the commercials is in black and white.

Do you have the opening of the show too? I imagine it lacks the "Rankin/Bass" credit.

@Jont2047 No, this is all I have (besides the commercials). Sorry!

I like the other one better. Gives it more depth when the other characters from the Island of Misfit Toys go down too.
