Complete success. We had the best beer in the whole country. The beaches are great in Nica, and the country overall is beautiful. They need your tourism dollars, so go!
Taking two growlers from Porltand OR to Nicaragua using this method. I'm using a larger cooler and two 2L growlers. I'm going to use some padding between the growlers in the hopes they won't knock against each other and break if tossed by a baggage handler. They're pretty sturdy though. I'm more worried about someone just either stealing them outright or taking a few glugs before it reaches final destination. Hope not. My friend in Nicaragua says the beer there sucks. :)
You swear this works through security? What happened to the 2 ounce liquid rule? I use to always bring beer back when I traveled but figured that was no longer allowed. Have you ever told no?
Hello and thanks for the comments on my video! I just checked the TSA website and since 11/14/06, you are permitted to CARRY-ON liquid and gel toiletries in 3-ounce containers or SMALLER if they are in a clear plastic, quart-size or smaller ziplock bag. Again this restriction applies to CARRY-ON ITEMS. My video deals with CHECK-THROUGH luggage (i.e. it goes in the planes cargo hold - not accessible during the flight). I have handed 1/2 gallon of beer directly to a TSA screener without issue.
you mean when you check your other luggage while getting your ticket you give them the cooler? Have you ever had one get damaged? I've had baggage handled pretty roughly in the past.
Yes - I recommend that you check it with your luggage. We just returned from Italy today and can report another successful test of this method (Kalamazoo to Chicago to Rome). My job required me to ship environmental samples to a lab once a week for analysis - in 4 years, we never lost a sample due to cooler damage (UPS overnight - MI to Westborough, MA). In my opinion, as long as you pack wisely and secure the lid, you'll be okay. The cooler will eventually wear out, like any piece of luggage.
