  • best smits song!

  • Best Smiths song?

  • @DanielTimothy What is?

  • @PrimalStones There is a light. In my opinion =)

  • @PrimalStones defo!

  • Love it.

  • good old English music

  • johnny's best riff...amongst many.

  • YESSSSS!!!

  • go on any video & there will b people arguing "this bands better than that band".." its not"..""it is".its like kids in the playground.."my dad could beat your dad up".." he couldnt".." he could".."my dicks bigger than your dick".." its not".." it is"..y don't we all just remember y we came here in the 1st place.. close our eyes & think about where u was when u 1st heard it..i was 15yrs old with my girlfriend who put the album on in her bedroom & then turned out the light ..my cherry popped!

  • @xXxMonkeyTrumpetxXx wot a tune to lose it to....excellent...lol.

  • @xXxMonkeyTrumpetxXx this has to be the cringiest collection of words ive ever read.

  • @jeand1n11 well done for being able to read....but you have fatally cut me with your cyber commenting knife,,,so much so that i will refrain from ever posting a comment or opinion ever again..i am now off to sell my computer and cancel my internet connection...in fact i shall remove myself from civillisation and the modern world altogether....and go and live in a cave...i hope you and your fingers are pleased with yourselves

  • arguing over the internet is like running the special olympics no matter who wins your all still retarded :)

  • aHHHHH tHE sMITHS ....FUCKING LEGENDS

  • @relentless801 totally agree!!

  • The picture is Norman Bates from the film Pyscho.

  • Isn't it Steve McQueen?

  • The devil will find work for the nine that dislike this, to do.

  • Got to be in the top 10 best rock bands in the world ,certainly No1 in the 80's.

  • @vashna3799 rock band? , the smiths are indie

  • @Dazzler59 Indie is a form of rock.

  • @vashna3799 Nope your using modern music definitions where everything that has a guitar in it is classed as rock , im an 80,s child this was most definately not rock back then.

  • The 2 minutes silence at the end is the necessary time to reflect and bask in the greatness of Mozz 'n Marr

  • I love The Smiths

  • 88'

  • jonhnny marr legend.

  • I seem to have bought a lot of people here from saying the name of the song on the "This Is England 88" advert.

  • @LydiaTheMaster have you?

  • anyone else taken here by This is England 88' ?

  • @MrJoshuacherry93 Yep! Trying to find the intro from the programme - vid and music. Lots of shots from the 80's.

  • @MrJoshuacherry93 yep - trying to find the intro from the show with the video and this music. Lots of shots from the 80's - thatcher etc.

  • @MrJoshuacherry93 No I was taken here because I love the Smiths. and why would it be on TIE88, they broke up in 87..

  • @ainsleywalker It wasn't actually in a scene being played, it was just a soundtrack to it. Same as they had "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" playing near the end on the original 'This is England' Film despite the film being set a year before that song was released. With that said, people didn't stop listening to the smiths in 88.

This is England doesn't set to use songs during the year it's set in, just songs that influenced the culture/fashion being shown..

  • @ainsleywalker calm down mate it was an innocent comment, maybe you should direct you're questions to the people who made the program? And likewise, the Smiths are one of my favorite british bands, especially of this era. Goodbye Mr Keyboard Warrior

  • @MrJoshuacherry93 hardly a keyboard warrior, not arguing. simply stating i dont need mainstream tv to shove good music in my face for me to see it :)

  • @MrJoshuacherry93 no, because most of us already had a decent taste in music ;)

  • @JuanKinoff I'm glad! Just to clarify, i did like and know of the smiths long before this is england, as some people seem to have quite an issue with the fact people were reminded of this song by the tv show haha

  • @MrJoshuacherry93 yeah i know bud, didnt mean to come across all arsey like that.

  • Just been searching for this song, after the 'This is Englan 88' trailer :D

  • @1cheescake Never saw the advert, but got it from the intro to the episode.

  • 20 years old and only just listened to The Smiths...amazing. This song is something else.

  • @ANeedForRoots hmmn. well i don't think that you read very carefully what I had to say about this song. All I said was what I think the song is about which makes alot of sense if you read what I said. I said that he's talking about telling someone he's gay then being rejected but still being fond of that said person and if you liked him before what difference should his sexuality make? if that's not what he's talking about in this song idk wtf it's about.

  • What about the cover?

  • Prefer this version over the other one, this seems more dark

  • its addictive!

  • @Damnblastify Troll?

  • @milocom You obviously don't understand what a troll is exactly.

  • johnny marr's work on this song is astounding, I'm not a huge smiths fan but I get so pissed off that he doesn't get the credit that he deserves from the music press. the guitar mag journalists both in uk and us are still obsessing over middle age middle class white men playing corny blues rock, or 80's hair metal. this guy is the best and most original guitarist still alive and deserves far more credit than he gets.

  • What a tune !!

  • why the hell is it 6:16 long?

  • This is way to good to actually exist

  • Great song, and the cover is from a great movie, The Collector!

What more could you ask for? :)

  • AMAZING! That is all...

  • one of the best 80s groups

  • @38reddevil The best group ever*

  • AlbionSounds :

    THANK YOU !!!!

  • This is one of the most underplayed bands ever. And this is one of their greatest songs.

  • not a big smiths fan but this one has got something for me..

  • one of the best songs ever!!!!!

  • I know this song is about someone who's considered more than a friend ... but it really applies to my situation with a platonic figure, who's treated me like dirt, but yet I'd still do anything for her. The Smiths never get old...

  • Best band in the world, ever, better than The Beatles.

  • @rosiewardd96 agree

  • @rosiewardd96 nahh you're mad saying they are better than the beatles. haha

  • @kurt5000yh they are

  • @TheElite3740 you mad bro? the beatles formed popular Guitar music back in 1962. Before marr and morrisey were a fetus..

  • @kurt5000yh assed? The Smiths are still better, go and fuck off to the beatles youtube scrub

  • @rosiewardd96 You're a fucking idiot how can you even compare the two? They are from different eras.

  • @TheGroovinDude em The Smiths are better, deal with it.

  • @rosiewardd96 Not better than Oasis though

  • @andthewinnerisJ is this some sort of sick joke?

  • @rosiewardd96 No Im totally serious. And right too

  • @andthewinnerisJ

No. No you're not. And anyway Oasis are the biggest Smiths fans going.

  • @andthewinnerisJ You're totally wrong lol.

  • @rosiewardd96 Why am I wrong, please?

  • @andthewinnerisJ Morrissey is the best lyricist ever to be born, and Johnny Marr one of the greatest guitarists. I love Oasis but there is no denying the fact the essentially copied The Beatles. There is nothing particularly special or complicated about Noel's guitar playing or the music he writes, his lyrics can be genius but when comparing them to The Smiths, possibly the most talented band in history, they don't look that great. I'd love to hear what Noel has to say about what you think.

  • @andthewinnerisJ how dare you mentioning Oasis near The smiths!! nothingcompares to this band, definately not "Wonderwall".....damn :)

  • Im not fond of 9 people...

  • But I'm still fond of you.

  • Great finale!

  • the kid looks like the one from robocop 2.

  • @taylormarcellin That's Terence Stamp, better known as General Zod from Superman.

  • @ArtemisFlyingV Hahahaha cool but i have never seen a Superman movie, show, and such. Its so cool to see random knowledge people have on here.

  • @ArtemisFlyingV

Mr. Stamp is also mentioned in Ray Davies' 'Waterloo Sunset' in the line "Terry meets Julie", referring to Julie Christie - the story is that they were both appearing onstage in different shows and were an item at that time.

  • @ArtemisFlyingV And Bernadette from "Priscila, Queen of the Desert"!

  • what difference does it maaaaaaake

  • Is it just me, or does that guy on the picture look a bit like Stuart Murdoch?

  • The picture looks like a guy from the 1940's or 50's that just discovered a Capri sun.

  • @Southerntredkill The guy on the cover is actually actor Terence Stamp. It was a publicity shot for the film The Collector, in 1965. I'm a smartarse, I know :)

  • @Samelie81 - that's a tasty bit there Samelie ... especially since i've never seen Terrance Stamp smile with his teeth.

  • @scrumtralescence It is Terence Stamp. Wiki/google that shit up ;)

  • @Spraynwipex - calm down. I believed you the 1st time.

  • @scrumtralescence Hmm? That was someone different the 1st time, but yeah it just seemed like you didn't believe it. It's really interesting to note that Stamp intially denied the use of the photo, and Morrissey actually re-enacted the shot, until Stamp eventually allowed it, making covers with the Morrissey photo some rare collectibles :)

  • @Southerntredkill p'ahahaha

  • the guy on the album cover looks like hes singing the tro lo lo song.

  • I couldnt care less what this song is about. I will still put it on repeat and drive around fast.

  • Is there a Smiths day held anywhere? If not, there should be.

  • @duke000222 organise it!

  • I'm not sure whether I like this version over the hatful of hollow one.

  • this song in my opinion is yet another gay confession by morrissey. all men have secrets. i think its about him telling a friend that hes gay and being rejected by that friend, but hes still fond of that friend, so what difference should it make if he's gay or straight. now they know the truth about him they wont see him anymore. and hes not gonna give anymore apologies.

  • @medicatedguitarist it's always been rumoured this was written about his relationship with johnny Marr. Because every good Smiths fan knows that the sexual tension between them was what made the music so damn intense. See also - There Is A Light.

Regardless of what it's about, if this record was a sentient being, I'd sex it right up.

  • I actually spent my whole 4 hours listening to this Album

  • Absolutely mint band!! Morrissey is the greatest lyricist that ever lived!!

  • Comment removed

  • this could have been such a great song if played right and more importantly SUNG right

  • @MickeyLove01 What's wrong with the way it's played and sung? It seems perfect both ways.

  • @patience0791 For a start the guitar need to be higher up in the mix, it is a great riff and Morrisey seems to smother it with his typical style. I think he should have sung it with more grit and energy instead of sounding like he can't be bothered and has a hangover. The last minute or so of the song sound better without the singing to be honest. But of course that is just my opinion.

  • @patience0791

    What difference does it make?

  • @patience0791 exactly, and anyway what difference does it make?

  • @MickeyLove01 this is one of my favorite songs of all time. and you're going to try and tell me it's not sung right? piss off

  • @KazakageoftheSand who the fuck is talking to you boy? stick to sniffing your fathers pants

  • @MickeyLove01 wait, what? get out of this video you cunt. if you can't appreciate the smiths and morrisey you might as well just go kill yourself

  • @KazakageoftheSand Don't try getting on my good side, you are not having a pair of my soiled underpants to wave around in front of your hairy nostrils.

  • @MickeyLove01 you are such a fucking cunt. the fact that you're alive is an insult to god and nature

  • @KazakageoftheSand It's okay, the truth hurts when it's presented in a direct fashion to the guilty. I understand that you are angry and dissapointed with the outcome of your pointless and miserable life, but look on the bright side, there will always be soiled underwear for you to sniff. Now, run along you insignificant little turd.

  • @MickeyLove01 hahahaha go fuck yourself you faggot. you don't know shit about anything, especially not music. get the fuck off this video you fuck

  • @KazakageoftheSand Imagine if anyone ever took any notice of you? Now, back to reality, nobody does, even those kids who mock and point at you as you limp past thinking perverted thoughts about their genitals you fat nonce. I am sure that there is a website similar to ebay that specialises in used underwear that caters for the filthy people like you in society. If there isn't one then maybe that's something you could set up. I worked in 4 recording studios, how many have you worked in?

  • @MickeyLove01 I'm going to put you in a little dress and hurt you. :)

  • @owenhunt That would be difficult without thumbs, but I will help you if you promise to let me wear one of your dresses that you "had an accident in".

  • @owenhunt I did like your comment so I made an exception and viewed your profile. I can now state without doubt that you couldn't fight your way out of a paper bag which has been made out of the lightest paper known to man.

  • @MickeyLove01 trololo umad?

  • @wistful94lyricist Something about toffee?

  • @MickeyLove01 kl story bro..

  • @wistful94lyricist You have a good one.

  • @MickeyLove01 ROFL!!! You tell him!!! What a waste of space he is...

  • "Kneel before Zod"

  • Johnny Marr could play killer hooks!

  • Uh hah ho.

  • @thesemenincident

    thanks for that mate

  • I saw morrissey in concert a few years back & he ripped his shirt off & threw it into the crowd who went wild for it then he said "go right ahead & tear it apart". I bought it at target today for $13.00.......

  • uhm_ÃÑý_gÙys_wâñt_tÒ_chÃt_wíth_mÊ

  • does anybody know who the man on the record cover is?

  • @Runrome from the back of the single: "Cover Star: Terrence Stamp (courtesy Columbia Pictures)". Sorry I can't remember what movie the still is from, but I'm sure Google knows...

  • I like this!! \m/ (:o)

  • who's the guy on the album cover? kinda looks like David Byrne

  • @mavericknoone Hey, you're right! I want this as a poster in my room!

  • @mavericknoone The album cover is Terence Stamp in the 1965 film 'The Collector'. Stamp objected to his photograph being used and Morrissey had to recreate the shot for further pressings.

  • @BillClintonn wow. I would've never recognized him.

  • Love The Smiths, love Morrissey. <3

    And I'm 15.

  • @flowerybow no one cares how old you are ^^

    cunt

  • @KazakageoftheSand How mature of you :)

  • @flowerybow your name is flowerybow. i think anything having to do with maturity should be handled by someone else.

  • @KazakageoftheSand how did my youtube account name get into the picture?

  • @flowerybow because it's all the more evidence that you're a pansy prick. like honestly, say you like the music. no one at all cares how old you are.

end of story. end of comments.

  • @KazakageoftheSand If you haven't got anything better to do than complaining about me, I feel kind of sorry for you. :)

  • the best voice EVER

  • @jpmtlhead39 he's definetly up there with jim morrison

  • Great song..

If you look at the album cover @ 3:00 it's like the guy is singing the "aahh ah aaah..." part :)

  • @CHABBO I think that's a young Tony Perkins.

  • @mconeillster It's Terence Stamp from the film 'The Collector'. He withdrew his approval to use his image for the single's cover, so it was reshot with Morrissey in the same pose.

  • @foxbasealpha That's right! I just checked my book by Mick Middles.

  • @foxbasealpha - That's kinda lame he withdrew the approval. The Smiths are a legend. If I were him I would be proud they chose my image! (I have a Smiths t-shirt with this image so I am curious when he decided to withdraw?)

  • @jenovella70

"The single cover is a photograph taken on the set of the film The Collector based on the novel by John Fowles. Originally Terence Stamp denied permission for the still to be used, and some pressings featured lead singer Morrissey in a re-enacted scene. In the re-enactment Morrissey is holding a glass of milk, as opposed to a chloroform pad in the original. Eventually, however, Stamp changed his mind, and the covers featuring Morrissey are now very rare and collectible."

  • @liamjlhill ~ Interesting! Thank you :)

  • who is the guy on the cover of the CD? is it "Pony boy" from The Outsiders film?

  • @SireMario444 its terrance stamp the guy fron superman!!!

  • @00twanga00 oh, i see! thanks alot, Twanga!

  • @SireMario444 sorry from superman

  • @SireMario444

There's an alternative cover of Morrissey holding a glass of milk as Terence Stamp at first refused permission for his image to be used. If you ever come across a Morrissey cover, snap it up....

  • @TheConstellation72 ive got the 7" single with terence stamp on the cover which i think is the original

  • @00twanga00

The still is a publicity shot from the Stamp film called 'The Collector' and it was thanks to Sandie Shaw that Terence Stamp finally gave his approval for his image to be shown...

  • @TheConstellation72 The sleeve is called "Waiting for the collecter"

  • 5 people don't know good music when they hear it !

  • This is the best Smiths track ever. it was the first I ever heard from them and fell instantly in love.

  • Maaan that was my tennage days,Bring Em back ..Still Rules The Smiths !

  • so waht if danzig fans hate the smiths? i love them both i wish glenn danzig could form a band with johnny marr
