  • i am a littel late with my video but thats because i am now doing french in school i hope u will still accep it and tell me how i am doin so far

  • When you say the "La Chienne" is for a female dog, does it mean it is for a dog or female gender, or it is how a female would say "dog"?

  • @alternative0259

    A dog of female sex

  • Great video

  • dont mean to troll, but chienne is the "b" word. but hey thats a female dog right!

  • The french, like you said before, has similarities with the spanish, im mexican, and i figured out a few days ago, talking with a friend, that i could understand everything she said except for the "beux yeux" (she said "hi friend that tell that i got beutiful eyes") then i actually realized that the french has a lot more similarities than just the numbers, based on that, so far, i has been able to learn french, so far as this lesson. Thanks a lot Remy Hasta Luego! See you later! Au revoir! ^-^

  • hi remy ... i can speak englicsh, spanisch, and german and now here iam trying to learn something new french language.just want to thank you for all the effort...i just sub...and will keep on watching more tuitorials.have a good day...dankeschon

  • la chienne = the bitch

  • bonjour remy, je suis rommel, comment va tu?

  • @gogglecrab

Bonjour, je vais bien merci. Et toi?

  • @him3zz: "entrain de", c'est ça? On utilise "entrain de + verbe à l'infinitif" lorsqu'on parle de ce que l'on fait à l'instant; en anglais on va utiliser le (V-ing):

    "I'am cooking"; "we're working"

"Je suis entrain de cuisiner"; "nous sommes entrain de travailler"

  • there is so much to memorize, i give up already sir!!!!

  • why is a table femmenist?

  • hahahahaha

    The birds and the bees

I just started taking in interest in the French language and I have seen lessons 1-6 and you are very helpful! I am going to continue watching!

i want to study medicine in Paris , especially in Sorbonne , and also some info about independent group who supper the international student financially :)

  • Hi, I want you to help me before my exams please answer this question:

My teacher wrote "une glace a la vanille" why is it la and not le. PLEASE HELP!

  • @TheFabregas360 There's no real reason, I think. I mean, it's the gender of 'vanille'. How they decide it was feminine I don't know, but it is. So it's 'de la vanille' and not 'de le vanille'.

  • @TheFabregas360 I forgot... The reason why it doesn't change like ''Le chien'' and ''La chienne'' it's because vanilla can't really be masculin or feminine. It's just... well vanilla. Lol.

  • Remi, j'ai une question a vous poser Remy ou n'importe qui(anyone).Quand on utulise la phrase "En train"? Pas le metro TRAIN....

  • @him3zz

Hi him2zz :) "Être en train (de faire quelque chose)" means doing something right now. For example, if you want to say "I'm doing the dishes", in French you will say "je suis en train de faire la vaisselle".

  • Vos videos sont de mieux en mieux! Keep this up, Je commence a aimer ton videos!

  • Hi Remy, just a simple question here. Do you also pronounce the unique French R sound when you say, Au Revoir? I kinda couldn't notice your pronunciation of Au Revoir. Tha nks for your superb videos!

  • @Scottcreek942

In this particular case the "r" is very slight but it's there nevertheless.

    That's French for ya! :-)

    Rémy

  • @jremy7 Sorry if I'm bugging ya Remy, but do french people always use that little slap in your neck to pronounce R? Always? or sometimes do you roll your tongue like in Spanish?

I'm just too curious cuz my friends who are taking french language courses say that they can roll your tongue

  • @Scottcreek942

No rolling of the "r" in French. Sorry.

  • Great video Remy (and Paul) and I love the music you put in ;D

  • Bonjur jremy7.

  • Salut Alex et merci pour ton commentaire :)

  • Remy= natural born educator. I've watched lessons(PBS channel)= okay: not very basic. With you, Remy, I I will learn. Get a degree;you are more than half way there. You are, interesting and an effective speaker. God bless you for your generous spirit. I master English and Spanish, I'd say quite effectively; however French is a difficult language and as I observe your technique, it is practical and your pronounciation is easy on the ear, Thx. Cordially, Arlenice

  • I agree! :)

  • cual es su lengua primera?

  • @alexgibson198209

El francés es mi lengua primera.

  • ohhhhh, j'suis desole' I was replying to the comment made by TheAc2009ac, because I heard him/her say that learning french is difficult.

so how much spanish do you know? English is my first language, but I learned spanish pretty quickly in high school. Now 10 years later, I feel that "J'dois apprende frances"

I figure why not! I already understand the concepts of the silent h and having to conjugate verbs, lol.

You are a great teacher man! keep the lessons coming.

  • you are fabulous remy. im colombian

  • Merci Jremy!

est aujourd'hui le Vendredi 15 Janvier 2010 and I've just started learning Frech by watching ur videos! :)

  • one thing I didn't quite get... "comment ça va?" and you answer "moi, ça va bien" why didn't you answer Je vais bien? both ways are possible or when somebody asks me comment ça va the best way to reply to this question is "ça va bien" do I have to put the moi before?

    merci!!

  • Bonsoir Remy,, Ca va? greetings from Philippines here :-)

  • bonjour Rémy comment ca va?ca va bien?merci for the lessons

  • How do I begin when someone tells me to "Presentez votre camarade"?

  • Camarade.

You've been asked to introduce your schoolmate I presume.

I actually gave you a few ways so to do :)

  • Yes.I watched your videos and I learned now.Thanks :)

  • le plaisir

    la joie

  • have you applied for youtube partner ship?

  • I am a YouTube partner.

    They contacted me :)

  • One of the most important thing to do is just add an E at the end but not for all Verbs

  • The only sure way to know the gender of nouns is to learn said gender at the same time you learn a new word.

Ex. Don't just learn "table" but "la table".You know then that it is feminine. A dictionary will include a little "f" to indicate that you're dealing with feminine noun.

As to rules and tricks.... I don't use them because they always have exceptions.

Do what French children do and learn any new noun with its definite article: le or la

    "That's French for ya!

    Rémy

  • Bonjour, Remy

First merci beaucoup for the lesson. My question is how do I know when to use the Le or the La for items. What is the determining factor for Masculine items? Je suis confused!

    Bob

  • why is it " dans l'Ontario" not "a l'Ontario" ?

  • "à" is used with cities

    ex: Je vais à Paris

For states, provinces and regions use "dans"

    It's a bit confusing I know but...

    "It's French for ya!"

    Rémy

  • hey.. good work jremy.. i watched ur videos.. it helped me alot... thanks man;)

well, i'm from india.. the way u pronounce french is quite difficult for us do... what to do.???

  • je suis coreen..who learned french at ten.(was fluent until 25); now mostly forgotten; thank you very much ; you remind me my adolescence in Begium.

  • merci so much!hehe!

  • For those that know Spanish (other Latin languages probably work the same way too), a lot of French and Spanish words have the same gender. La mesa, el tren... But some are different: el gozo vs. la joie. But I always thought joy should be a feminine word anyhow... :)

  • Bonjour! :)

First of all, Merci ;) You're really helping a lot.

I'd like to know if you know any website in which I could practice my pronounciation and know how some words are pronounced.

    Merci, ou revoir! :-)

  • Hi : remy je suis alexander Iam from la colombie, I do speak spanish, I want to leat you nkow you are doing a grant job .muchas gracias! bye

  • djswittouch-- LE is use for men and LA is use for female. if the table is for female the you should say it as LA table.

well remy is teaching already the right french word, i've learned it in school but then since i started viewing his videos i still learned a lot from him. keep it up remy... Godbless u more. merci beaucoup:)

  • Thank you so much.

  • Respect wat u doing, but i am about to write my final IGCSE soon so will you please use formal french

  • if you want formal french maybe you shld go to class. his is helpful for people who are not writing exams but want to LEARN BASIC FRENCH.

  • so i'm pretty confused about the whole "gender" concept. is there a certain rule to determine what words are masculine and what words are femenine? or do you just memorize what word is what?

  • well, i am not a french speaker i guess my level must be like yours, but i speak spanish as well, and all it depends on how the word ends.

  • so remy, are you french or canadian?

  • French :)

  • Good Job........

  • the letter (r )will be prounuonced as the arabic letter ( غ )

  • excuse, how do you know the gender of something?i'm sort of confused about that...thank you^_^

  • There are ways to tell but most of the time its just something you need to learn

like usally when the word ends in an E 9 times out of 10 its Feminine

  • Bonjour Remy7. Je suis Aaron. J'habite Cincinnati. Je parle un petite Le France. J'ai chien Rufus, noir.

  • C'est very COOL!!!!!

  • the movie "Amelie"....does that star Audrey Tautou??.....she was Agent Sophie Neveu on The Da Vinci Code....i have sort of an obssession with her....haha not really....im just another fan....!!

  • Bonjour remy comment va tu? Je suis essayer pour parler un francais.. tu es bon proffeseaur

is this making sense (please correct if possible) ive been following your vids for 1 week now they are very helpful - great thanks

will you be teaching more about genders because im a little confused on what objects are female or male

  • In french, "will" is replaced by "aller". So if you want to say: "I WILL try to speak Fench", you must say: "Je VAIS essayer de parler francais".

"pour" mean "for". Like, "It's for you." ("c'est pour toi"/"c'est pour vous")

  • Comment removed

  • the link for leyla's vid no longer works

  • It still does work :)

  • thanks so much for these vids i've been looking for people who teach french but i can't find any here in our place.. and ur the solution!! :D

  • how to you say "it is 7p.m"?

is it "il est sept de l'apres-midi"?

  • I believe you can simply use the European way of utilizing the 24 hour clock and say "il est dix-neuf heure (It is 19 o'clock)." I am not sure if that is entirely correct so get a second opinion.

  • The two ways are used:

    "il est sept heures de l'après-midi" (it's 7 p.m.)

"il est deux heures et demi du matin" (2:30 a.m)

"il est dix heures et quart du soir" (10:15 p.m)

"il est midi moins le quart" (it's quarter to midday)

    "il est dix-neuf heure" (it's 19 o'clock)

"il est vingt heure trente" (it is half past eight ( 8:30 p.m))

"il est cinq heures dix" (it's ten past five)

"il est trois heures moins vingt (it's twenty to three)

  • In French, if you use the 24h clock, you have to use numbers to say the time...

    I mean you can't say :

"il est vingt heure et quart" (it's quarter past eight (p.m) ) but :

"il est vingt heure quinze" (it's 'fifteen past twenty' (20h15))

    or

"il est dix-sept heure trente" (17h30) and not "il est dix-sept heure et demi" (half past 17)

But you can say 'quarter' , half... with the 12h clock

    "il est deux heure trente de l'après midi" (it's 2:30 p.m) !

  • What does Aujourd'hui c'est le mercredi mean?

Your videos have been extremely useful to me! I'm supposed to go to France in April, and I need all the training I can get!

    Thank you ! :)

  • Today is Wednesday :)

  • What the heck?!? how would you pronounce "Aujourd'hui c'est le mecredi"?? and is there an easier way to say "train"?? haha....im having difficulty in pronouncing it.....

  • In Spanish most words ending in an A are MOSTLY feminine and words ending in O are mostly masculine, is this true of many french words? Just to know which gender to give which words?

  • It's not that easy in French. You just have to learn which is which one at a time I'm afraid. I learn them "by ear"

Any French person knows that it's "la table" and not "le table". "Le table" just "don't:" sound right :)

  • ah, ce la vie (I hope I spelled that right, trying t practice) and I assumed you were French, the "I learn 'by ear'" comment, does that mean French is not your first language?

  • C'est la vie :)

You do learn your first language "by ear" :)

  • They probably leave bad comments here because they have a frustrating learning disability that incapacitates the part of the brain that allows them to learn French. I'd be pissed to and inclined to leave a horrible comment.

Danke Herr Remy. Sie sind ein gutt Lehrer fur mich. Sod the proles.

  • ahhh ; le train is super hard to pronounce for me. i cant seem to let go of my spanish R.

isnt their a synonym for train ?

    lol thankss :]

  • Locomotive?? :-D

  • Very good!

  • In my region we pronouce 'r' the same way the frenchmen do. It's a local accent. In fact we got the R:s from France because the nobles wanted to speak French. Was popular during the 1700. It's the reason people in the southmost part of Sweden pronounce 'r' with the back of their throat.

  • Locomotive would be a synonym for Train. But R is important letter of the french alphabeth. Its the most used letter and sound after E

  • Bonjour!:) Comment ca va? Hehe. Your vids are helping me much but I can't buy a French Dictionary right now. Money's tight.:(( I am depending on your videos now. Thanks for recommending some movies, I love The Chorus. :D My choir instructor recommended the movie too.

    Au Revoir

  • Hey remy ! Firts of all i would like to thk you , you´re really helping ! I´m brazilian, and i speak protuguese, very similar to spanish , but coller ( hehehe ). Well anyway, i decide 4 days ago that i would learn french , and i`m very glad to find your videos . It´s hard to gueess the right pronunce all by myself !

    Hey , thats it.

Je désire parler français very soon ! ^^ ( sorry if i made a mistake )

    Au revoir !

  • the sound of r (in french) is more close to h in words like hi and hat

  • Bonjour Remy. J'mapelle Mansoor. J'habite dans l'Ontario, Canada. Enchante, vous faites un grand travail. Le Maintenir!

Don't worry about people leaving rude comments on your page. Important thing is that you're making a difference by making people appreciate the beautiful language.

Tout le mieux. Au revoir et merci.

  • I'm going to Bordeaux for a week soon. I took French in high school but I didn't learn it well and I don't remember much. Your lessons so far are very helpful, so thank you!

  • Glad I can be of help.

    Bon voyage!

  • Hi, Remy I am a spanish speaker and I just love your videos! I decided that I was going to learn french so I thought that I better look on you tube for some good helper videos and I can't believe the close connection that the languages have I am just moving on along and I am learning so much! Thank you Remy!!!

  • Muy bien :)

    Gracias por tu comentario.

  • THANKS ALOT!

  • Señor Remy:

    ¡Muchas gracias por el video!

Hablo inglés y español------se me hace fácil el francés.

    CIAO

  • Remy, you just cracked me up twice with the anticipation build up and the ensuing disappointment of the words 'table' and 'train'. J'adore votre sens de l'humeur, keep posting!

  • "L'humeur" is "the mood" but "l'humour" is well... humor.

Note that the brits spell it humour actually. So it's "le sens de l'humour" (ou=oo as in zoo)

"Il est de mauvaise humeur" = "He's in a bad mood"

  • thanks!

  • Thank you for your video! I have learned so much!

    -Christina

  • frankly speaking.. i find it hard to understand all the stuff here..i'm not an english speaker..

but i know how to speak it...

maybe little by little i will learn...

  • meric pour le video. il me faut parle francais pour vacanes. alors, cet etait tres bien. je vais aller au France avec ma familie et mes amis kayla et Jessica. Parle francais c'est beacoupe difficile pour moi. (yes my spelling and writting is really bad but im getting there) Alors, Merci pour le video.

  • Merci beaucoup pour tes lecons, Remy! I've got rusty old gr.11 french and thought I'd refreshen with you. I'm visiting Quebec soon but I know they speak a bastardized version of real french. (Vous etes de la France, non?) I'm wondering if you know exactly how different they are and if I'll be too confused if I learn France's version. Probably not too badly, eh?

  • Le français québecquois is based on parisian French from the 17th and 18th century it just has evolved on it's own due to isolation. However it is quite compatible with modern French and a French Canadian can be understood by someone from France and vice versa. It's the accent that gets in the way as well as some specific vocabulary.

  • hey remy.

to learn what objects are masculine or feminine is it just a matter of learning or is there a pattern?

    thanks for the videos

    very helpful

  • hi gusdog.. is matter of learning, you have to memorize

  • aww that will take ages.

    thanks!!

  • Hi gusdog, all nouns in the Latin derived languages have gender ,have a happy new year from USA.

  • j'aimer regardes tes videos parce que je veux parles francais =D

  • Hi Remy,

What should I say in French if I want to offer help to a person. just like in English : "Can I help you?" and waht should be the answer in French" thanks..

  • [Can I help you?]

    Puis-je t'aider (informal)

    Puis-je vous aider (formal)

    Possible answer: [yes please]

    Oui s'il te plait (informal)

    Oui s'il vous plait (formal)
