I put my own french drain in by hand. I wore out 17 bull chisels cutting concrete out of the cellar floor. I dug out the dirt and used a yard and a half of crushed stone to replace it. The slanted PCV pipe with holes running at right angles is under the floor that was poured back.
Best thing to do with the sump discharge is come through the wall below grade to an outside pit surrounded by gravel with leech lines, similar to a small septic system - disperses the drainage from the house evenly throughout the yard, benefits the trees and shrubs in some cases too. One thing I dont see in your setup - a one way valve to let water go out but wont let water drop back into the sump pit. Maybe it's in the pit?
yeah you dont want it in a septic system, will overflow it. City septic lines have enough to do with "blackwater" from toilets and "greywater" from sinks and showers, rain water just causes excessive water treatment for the plant and possible backup of septic sewer lines. Some places allow a line into the storm lines where the street water runoff drains but usually you get rid of the water in your lot outside the foundation. If they smoke test the sewers and your pit smokes, they may fine you.
I did not see any check valve, the water will back over to the pit when the pump stops

Why doesn't the sump have a lid on it?

It's often against the township code to go into the main drain.
