Martha faced lots of barriers because of her weight. She was labeled "unmarketable" because of her size, sued to receive proper credit and royalties as the vocalist on all of her songs. This spurred legislation making vocal credits mandatory on CDs and music videos.She ended upwith RCA Records as a part of the agreement, which led to her debut, self-titled solo album in 1993. Two of the songs hit number one on the dance charts.
