  • Wait. Wait. Why is it on FIRE? Gold doesn't burn... O_O

  • just like microwaving chips bag

  • yeah thats false gold leaf you can see the zinc backing

  • the smoke is probably the backing of the gold dust . if its actual gold leafing for cars or painting purposes or real gold period the leaf has a backing to it . unless they pulled it off

  • Considering the boiling point of gold is much lower than the temperature of the electric arcs, I would assume some of the smoke is vaporized, condensed gold dust.

  • @TSorovanMHael wwwhhhhhfffff......GGOooolllldduuusstt

  • how did this happen

  • judgeing from the looks of the microwave you cook metal more than hot pockets

  • put a stuffed animal in a microwave, I request this!!!!

  • lol, it died

  • vaporization! >:D

  • Yup- I can evaluate just by watching a video!

  • I'm confused.

  • It's what happens when you put foil in a microwave.

Gold foil is still foil, no exceptions.

Also, i can see why the Mclaren F1 had some fire issues early on, gold doesn't sizzle. It's just POOF and it starts to crumple. Resulting in engine bay fires. :D

  • wow!! it's fantastic!

  • HAHA i like jolted when the first leaf went off. lol u should have seen

  • I accidentally put a plate with some gold leaf in it in a microwave once. Sparks were everywhere!

  • This isn't gold leaf!

  • You an expert on evaluating gold and other precious materials over the internet by watching videos?

  • I'm a goldsmith with 30 years of experience. OK?

  • do people always submit gold over youtube for your evaluation?

  • Gold leaf (24ct) does not react with oxygen and can't burn. I'm an expert. Remember those? People who know more than you do about a subject. What you are looking at is fake gold leaf that sells at about $10 for 24 leaves. You stick it on with glue.

  • Yep. I've had a real 24 ct gold plate in my microwave and it did not react at all. Do the fake gold sheets (Leaves) have any real gold in them at all?

  • @tonykw Gold does react with oxygen. This isn't real gold, and getting gold to react with plain oxygen is a hassle (understatement), but gold does react with oxygen. The path to Au2O3 in nature is through the decomposition of other gold compounds.

  • If you look into that light, you get blind right?

  • I just tried gold leaf 24k for 2 minutes and nothing happened. 1000 watt microwave too

  • This is really gold leaf or imitation gold?

  • your microwave must smell like shit

  • i like the sound 0:27 <3

  • does it destroy the gold??? anyone know what happens here on a chemical level?

  • Well, gold molecules are just bricks of gold atoms, so I think no matter what you do to it, the gold is still gold.

  • The gold would only be destroyed in a nuclear fusion/fission reaction.

The gold atoms are still there, but it's probably not pure gold anymore, maybe something like a gold oxide instead.

  • 1:06... awesome....

  • Hmmm i had some plates with gold leaf decorating the border and when i got them in microwave ... xD

  • so i spose it didnt crack or damage your plates?

just curious about this as i have an idea for an art project!!

  • No it didn't, the gold leaf just electrocussed and the plates were intact xD

  • Gold leaf at an EXPENSIVE place is about 3 dollars a sheet.

  • so... it's $1000 an ounce. so each leaf is 1/333 of an ounce. considering gold is EXTREMELY heavy, holy shit those sheets must be thinner than paris hilton on coke!!

  • Yes, pretty thin indeed.

  • @tpstrat14 gold leaf is 1 atom thick. so ya its pretty thin

  • @CallMeMrLennox you know thats not true right?

The thickness of a single gold leaf is typically 0.0000035 inch (3.5 millionths of an inch), thats like a little more than one atom

  • @tpstrat14 50 atoms thick. You can read through it.

  • @tpstrat14 its gold painted aluminum foil lol

  • @tpstrat14 Yup, gold leafing is SUPER THIN.

  • @1lovesoni how many atoms?

  • @tpstrat14 Not sure, but it's usually about .3 milimeters thick

  • @1lovesoni isn't that WAY thicker than a piece of paper?

  • @tpstrat14 I looked it up, paper is .1mm thick, I thought gold leaf .03mm thick. Thats just a number I was quoted by somone else. So yeah, I wouldent be surprised if it was a lot thinner.

  • @1lovesoni it's about .0008 milimeters thick. Just looked it up. A third of a milimeter? lol.. that's pretty damn thick

  • no

    not

    really

    your over paying

    seriously

    gold leaf=very cheap

there isnt much of it there

  • THIS GUY MUST BE RICH !

  • actually golf leaf is very cheap because its really thin and light

  • last one was cool

  • the first one looked like a gold nugget

  • this one of th edumbest series of video i've ever seen

  • the triangle at 47sec scared the s**t outta me XD that was nice

  • pause at :28

  • gold smoke.. don't breathe this

  • Poor Little Microwave.... Hehe! Loved it.

  • ZAP! deeeeeeeeeeeead

  • Man sieht hier ganz gut wie die Elektroden die Struktur des Metalls im Gold zerstört.

    xD

  • can anybody explain what exactly is happening here?

  • You know the front of your microwave has a metal mesh? this is to absorb the microwaves so they do not burn your face off. If you place a very thin bit of metal in a microwave, the metal absorbs the radiation which excites electrons, this heats up the metal (because it is so thin) and causes the electrons to jump causing a arc (spark) as they try to balance the charge.

  • I think this is like the most informal comment I've ever run across on youtube

  • I aim to please :)

  • Also the most gay...

  • 0:05 lrapid lighting

  • it is at 0:07

  • why not try buble wrap that would be awsome or sprite bombs

  • Put a big crap and some sperm in it together and u ll see what happens

  • what a waste of perfectly good, shiny, sexy gold

  • Commercial gold leaf isn't entirely gold. There are other metals in it - like aluminum.

  • not always the good stuff is 24k pure

  • yes in india they eat gold on there candys so some gold that big would be worth about 2$?

  • you guys experiment a tad too crazy

    Lols .

  • This leaf is don't gold. Gold never oxidatnig , but in your video i see smoke.

  • that microwave has been through alot

  • that isn't true gold leaf, is it?

  • blast a bottl of pepsi in a miC

  • pretty amazing. what else can you blow up? i would like to see a can of whipped cream...

  • Lol!

    ...

    ...

    *cringe*

    *flops over*

    ...

    ...

  • OMG THATS A WAIST OF MONY prolly like 50 bucks in gold

  • Its like a few dollars.

  • MORE LIKE A FEW HUNDRED

    gold is WAY expensive

  • Are you rediculous? gold leaf is gold thats been smashed to 500 atoms thick. You can take a square yard of it, crumble it between your fingers, and watch the entire thing disappear because there is so little of it.

They even sell rip-off containers of "real gold!" that only contain like .0000000000001 grams of gold in them.

  • A package of 30 sheets of Gold Leafing like used in the video only cost $10.95 at the local craft stores.

  • This isn't real gold though.

  • It's gold leaf, like you'd buy in a craft store, which usually actually is gold leaf.

  • In my experience gold and silver leafing at craft stores is usually imitation leaf, but it could be different in this case.

  • hahahahahahaha roflmao hahahaha

  • looks like golden dog shit

  • lol how many microwaves do u have?

  • lol it made me jump

  • At the start it was just like- ZAP! (falls over....)

  • huh. i wonder why some of the gold turns silver.

perhaps this is not real gold leaf but rather, some other metal pressed thinly and tinted yellow.

  • ooooh, IDEA!! try people!!!(:

  • God gold leaf is not expensive

  • gold leaf isnt expenisve huh? thats 92-100% pure gold smashed into a thin sheet.. he could have made like 2 gold rings

  • are you serious? 2 gold rings? with that tiny piece of gold leaf?

    No.

Mate, gold leaf is so thin that if you melted a substantial piece down, youd have less than a drop. It's so inexpensive, people wrap food in it and you can eat the gold leaf. It's so inexpensive, people stick it in the microwave and film it and then put it on the internet lol. etc.

  • Well technically it's actually very expensive considering the minute amount of gold used to make gold leaf. Around $60 cad for 25 sheets of 23k that would alltogether make less than a gram of gold probably, while a troy ounce is around $860. Technically gold leaf is much more expensive than gold :p.

  • Running some quick calculations through google, the trading price of a gram of gold should be about $27 right now.

  • haha, at least you know what youre talking about. But, you took my argument out of context =P My argument was that that piece of gold leaf in the microwave wasn't very expensive in terms of magnitude of price, regardless of trading cost. :P

  • if its gold or not its just a waste

  • this happens to my plate (gold edges) when i put it to the microwave...

  • W O W (...)

  • even if it was real who wud use gold leaf and waste it like that....duhhhhh

  • it farted

  • with song is nice but not a song is shit

  • i think its zilver foil whit a gold coller

  • you´r right (mdgilder)

  • That is not gold leaf. It is "gold" stamping foil, not real gold and certainly not leaf.

  • that's not real gold leaf. that looks like the walmart kind. real gold leaf is way thinner than that.

  • gold leaf is expensive lol

  • who crapped themselves?

  • Instant death! lol

  • He died fast.

    O__o

  • how did u get a camera in the microwave? with out it destrying it?

  • it like died and shriveled in a flash

  • O___o

  • im suprised u havent set anything on fire around the house. unless this is outside then u must have dozens of fireextinguishers just lying around.

  • what brand of microwave is that?! i want one.lol

  • Do you use the same microwave for all of these? If yes...how the hell is it still alive?

  • its not gold its gold plated

Look at the sides after toasting it it is silver in color

  • could be white gold...

  • could be...but still white gold usually is not gold plated

  • i love how the sides of ur microwave is all messed up ^_^

  • pretty scary...

  • I liked the first one it like flattened and then just fell over.. lol

  • now you got a gold/sliver nugget.

  • cool....

  • why waste the gold?

  • How do you get such a clear shot? show us a video of your set up please?

  • Thats sweet how fast the reaction is.
