i think it going to be a fair war, one side, fueled by money, greed, and evil (monsanto) and one composed of patriots, farmers, and people with COMMON SENSE who actually care about local economy. unfortunately, monsanto can do ALOT with the amount of money it steal from people. its horrible, but we have to go against it, because, if americans cant make it against a large corporation, we obviously have no say in the political system (unless we have more money than monsanto.)

It's wrong what's happening to ALL kinds of farming. When corporations take over, they only care about one thing; the bottomline. In the case of livestock, they employ as few people as possible, to keep as many animals as possible, in a small of a space as possible and pump them full of steroids to make them grow as fast as possible. The number of people that work in agriculture keeps shrinking and the ones that do, get paid poor wages. We are turning into a society of slaves, more & more.

The issue here is food safety, and the fact is that organic growing relies on animal manures, which regularly kill people. The people who died from spinach? Organic Spinach. So the issue here is keep food safe, something that everyone wants.

we have some neibors who are "organic" farmers they farm somewhere around 5000 acres. they get paid twice the $ that we normal farmers get paid. their feilds are very productive and have barely and weeds. the way they produce such great "organic" crops is that they take their sprayers out at 11 oclock pm and spray pesticides on their "organic" crops.
Here in Arizona, where all of the winter lettuce is grown, there are signs on the organic fields... "Organic field, do not spray" and I want to go by and write "During Daylight Hours"... We grow a boatload of conventional product and a bit of Organic to try and make a premium on some things. There are no big margins in lettuces, some in watermelons, the pinto bean thing is surpising... But I will likely take out my organic fields to plant it to GMO research... Organics is a scam... and I know.

Monsanto developed plants that are resistant to certain herbicides - so the farmer can spray the field kill the weeds and not harm the crop. You buy the seed pay for the technology (and sign an agreement saying you won't keep seed you grew for next year thus avoiding paying for the technology again). Well some farmers ignored the agreement - so Monsanto now has terminator gene so the seed won't produce a viable plant. Just protecting their investment. Most of what this woman says is wrong.
Monsanto, a pesticide maker, now holds patents on seeds. What the hell!! HOW can someone patent seeds?? They are from nature. I will not eat a genetically modified ANYTHING!! When I was only 11, I developed endometriosis because of unnatural modified growth hormones from the "approved" food that the government provides. Doctors said that there is no cure to it other than birth control(raises cancer risk by 600%)or high risk surgery.

what exactly is wrong with genetically modified food in your opinion?. personally i think disease resistant crops that grow in more varied enviroment is better than. the only problem i can think of is containment and proper regulation as nesecerry.
It's a long subject but you should inform yourself - check out the monsanto youtubes to give you an idea. Basically GMO food has no healthy nutrients - they suck the health from you. So much info on this hope you get a chance to check into it further:)
In my opinion, there are some "good" variations of GM foods, such as golden rice and some types of plants that are engineered to be able to grow under extreme circumstances. However, there is danger of cross-contamination, and one must always keep in mind that Monsanto does NOT have your best interests in mind.
It's one thing to have a monopoly on phone service, another to have a monopoly on food, and that is Monsanto's end goal as far as I can tell. That is very dangerous.

The FDA can't do it so their solution is to create "FDA 2." What a joke. Why is it that some people seem to think that if we have just one more government bureaucracy to take care of this or that, everything will be perfect? It is contrary to history and expecting a different outcome is pure insanity.

Do your research! All gov't regulation is not evil. LAWS (also known as gov't regulation) are made to protect us. It's wrong what's happening to ALL kinds of farming. When corporations take over, they only care about one thing; the bottomline. In the case of livestock, they employ as few people as possible, to keep as many animals as possible, in a small of a space as possible and pump them full of steroids to make them grow as fast as possible. The number of people that work in agriculture keeps shrinking and the ones that do, get paid poor wages. We are turning into a society of slaves, more & more.

It's been a while since I have been back in the states, I saw whats happening with so many people, it's obvious they see us as guinea pigs cause the fact that you eat and have so many problems is very very strange. we have some neibors who are "organic" farmers they farm somewhere around 5000 acres. they get paid twice the $ that we normal farmers get paid. their feilds are very productive and have barely and weeds. the way they produce such great "organic" crops is that they take their sprayers out at 11 oclock pm and spray pesticides on their "organic" crops.

Here in Arizona, where all of the winter lettuce is grown, there are signs on the organic fields... "Organic field, do not spray" and I want to go by and write "During Daylight Hours"... We grow a boatload of conventional product and a bit of Organic to try and make a premium on some things. There are no big margins in lettuces, some in watermelons, the pinto bean thing is surpising... But I will likely take out my organic fields to plant it to GMO research... Organics is a scam... and I know.

The assumption that of the hundreds of things that we do to grow something, changing two of then, ( some fertilizers, some pesticides) makes something more natural is preposterous.
But this is about food safety... Just as resturants must comply with standards, this moves the commercial food safety standards to previously exempt producers... who of course cry foul that they would have to comply with the same things the rest of us do.
But of course food poisioning is natural. So it is okay.

You seem to be assuming too much. Pesticides and Fertilisers are the only two additions to growing vegetables, other than manual care. Restaurants is cooked food, this is bringing fresh food to market.

Monsanto developed plants that are resistant to certain herbicides - so the farmer can spray the field kill the weeds and not harm the crop. You buy the seed pay for the technology (and sign an agreement saying you won't keep seed you grew for next year thus avoiding paying for the technology again). Well some farmers ignored the agreement - so Monsanto now has terminator gene so the seed won't produce a viable plant. Just protecting their investment. Most of what this woman says is wrong.

I mean, given the fact that the government has been passing all of the other types of "freedom snuffing "bills, I wondered how long it would take them to try this one. And sure enough they are. When I was only 11, I developed endometriosis because of unnatural modified growth hormones from the "approved" food that the government provides. Doctors said that there is no cure to it other than birth control(raises cancer risk by 600%)or high risk surgery.
Recently, a local naturopath gave me some organic herbs(to put in tea)and after four months my endometriosis is nearly gone.
The doctors and government can go jump off a cliff for all I care.

Its not about 'enviromentalism', afterall crops will be grown - just ones that have been genetically altered or fed unnatural 'fertilizers'. There is so much evidence out there that clearly shows the health dangers of crops grown using such methods that you should research a bit and you will quickly see why this is important. Not to mention that if we allow them to be the sole source of the food then they will control all. You think controlling the masses with fuel supplies is powerful?

Last year, with the bailout. The first time it went to vote, the hundreds of protests, the flooded phone lines, inboxes, mailboxes...the first vote, it was overwhelmingly NO.
People didn't keep it up though, and there are rumors that people were sent to change their minds from the lobbies and who knows who else, so the second vote it was overwhelmingly yes.

The seeds you find now days are genetically altered, preventing the plants from reproducing. I wonder why that is. And how come the stimulus package doesnt help out the farmer at all?

It's a long subject but you should inform yourself - check out the monsanto youtubes to give you an idea. Basically GMO food has no healthy nutrients - they suck the health from you. So much info on this hope you get a chance to check into it further:)

In my opinion, there are some "good" variations of GM foods, such as golden rice and some types of plants that are engineered to be able to grow under extreme circumstances. However, there is danger of cross-contamination, and one must always keep in mind that Monsanto does NOT have your best interests in mind.
It's one thing to have a monopoly on phone service, another to have a monopoly on food, and that is Monsanto's end goal as far as I can tell. That is very dangerous.

EU has thou GM food isnt exactly a debate here yet considering most GM foods are still in experimental states due the cross contamination consern over long term ie in here finland theres a wheat farm thats precisely desinged to test the cross contamination in controlled setting to see how it effects the orginal plant life thou they do that cross contamination study in a large greenhouses.

We do have anti-monopoly laws, however, we also have lobbyists who are more powerful than our laws. Just take a look at the AIPAC lobby and the fact that Israel has broken our arms agreements many time, but does not get called out for it
I can't adequately describe the enormous danger that this bill puts our food supply in, given the limitation of how much I can write. I assure you that any bill that seeks to control food production and put it in the hands of corporations is not a good thing.

I haven't looked closely at the bill yet but the government is way overstepping its bounds in many areas. And just what we need, another damned government bureaucracy to fix our food problems. The FDA can't do it so their solution is to create "FDA 2." What a joke. Why is it that some people seem to think that if we have just one more government bureaucracy to take care of this or that, everything will be perfect? It is contrary to history and expecting a different outcome is pure insanity.
