  • love the sound of the detroit diesle

  • I always loved the look of the old ALF's. I trained on a 700 series, went to my first fire on a 900 series open cab, and was assigned to a 1000 series midship ariel. The Detroit Deisels they put in them were loud, and you didn't have to climb up 5 steps to reach equipment... I have sold this Engine, but still have a '64 open cab 900 series pumper. They are both great Engines!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In the ealry 90's I spent many a night in the jumpseat of a ALF Century right next to a 8V92. Good times.

  • When I think of a fire truck, old ALF's like this are what I see in my mind's eye.

  • this is our truck

  • You taught me so much. Thank you for your post.

  • Its an Engine, not a Truck! Use the correct terminology.

Engine Company, Truck Company, not everything is a "Truck".

Call for a Truck for your weed fire, and when you get a Ladder Truck sent with no water, you'll learn!

  • Drafting means using the black hard suction to pull water from a lake or other water source. The pump must be air tight, or the pump will not "draft."

The engine is a nice, loud, old Detroit 671.

    Jim

  • Thats a cool truck. You should mkae a video of you driving it. Whats drafting mean? Does the truck have a 6v92 or an 8v92?

  • dame suprized u got a draft that high with that old pump lol

  • Nice truck, my department has a 72' Lafrance as our 3rd engine. 1500 gpm pump with a 750 gallon tank.

  • (2nd try) What's the pump capacity of that rig and is it a 6V-53 or 6-71 in that rig?

    Thanks.

  • 1000 gpm, and it's a 671. There was an air leak between the two lengths of hard suction. The next time I pumped with it, I got alot more water....

  • Thank you so much. Back in the day when that truck was built, the 6V-53 was seemingly a more popular engine. The 6-71 was found mostly in pumps with a 1250 or 1500 GPM capacity, or if you had a lot of hills in your first due, or for larger apparatus like aerial ladders. But by 1972 Mr. Nader downgraded the HP in diesels for fuel economy during the Arab Oil Embargo and from that point the 6-71 became standard. Thanks again.

  • @jmelia32 Dang those air leaks. Sometimes tough to pull a draft when you're sucking air. Where I was a Volunteer for 30 years we lived by the draft so you got good at it.
