  • so gland i saw their comeback!! haha even if Kim looked like he should retired knitting sweaters

  • Don't worry about the awesomeness of this song guys. Its only deadly when it hits your ears.

  • Kim Thayil's guitar gave birth at 2:03.

  • killing with charm, that's what obama does

  • AAAAGGH why did Telephantasm have to be a compilation album :(

  • @thedude652 They said it was going to be a retrospective album, no anouncement of being entirely new material. so really it was expected. We're lucky it HAD new material on it.

  • Matt Cameron wrote this tune. Sounds good!

  • "Killing with charm..."

    Soundgarden summed up perfectly.

  • They better play this on there tour in Lollapooloza.

  • Never heard much off of this album.. I'm very much an UltramegaOK/BMF man ;)

  • They're BACK baby!

  • I like their ablums equally

  • this album was their best and the best of the grunge era all together.

  • i think temple of the dog was the best, but this one is up there for sure

  • @enemymouse I have to disagree. Their ENTIRE career was the best of that era and could not be copied. Ok, the early stuff sounded a bit like Zep but I think that was before they found their sound.

  • I like the mix of heavy metal and psycadelic rock thats what made soundgarden so good

  • Kim is such a genius. The guitar work is so interesting and heavy. It's hard to do both at the same time anymore, and he's got it!

  • im kinda glad soundgarden hasnt gotten back together. i mean there are ALOT of bands that should have stopped making new music a long time ago, and i would absolutely hate to see soundgarden added to that list. chris cornell said he didnt want to get back together because he didnt want to mess with perfection.

BUT i would love to see them live playing the old music. but thats just my opinion.

  • me too. usually when a band gets back together, their new music isn't as good as the older songs (but thats my opinion)

but your right about them playing the old music live that would be awsome!

  • Right on, a reunion tour or two would do it justice, followed by a dvd of the performances, then nothing, no more albums, not after 13 years

  • thnks for the video man

  • This is an awesome song!!!!!! Yeah, When's the SOUNDGARDEN reunion??????

  • So yea, def. think that Kim is a very underrated guitar player. His ripping and wah wah pedal in this are kick arse!

  • Down On The Upside is very underrated also. I think it's my favorite SG album, followed by Superunknown of course.

  • i love how at the beginning the bass i believe fades out a couple of times, or it could be the guitar. can't really tell.

  • best soundgarden song ever

  • luv this song more than life itself

  • nice

  • This Rocks! btw check out youtube video** Thyzzo - Fire

  • The geetar on this album is the heaviest mineral known to man.

  • the sound of this song(guitar) reminds me of somehting off Zeppelin 4. thats a good thing.great song!

  • Only deadly in a swamp!

  • only deadly in a swarm....

yeah major zeppelin influence here. especially on there earlier late-80s stuff

  • O.K. thanks for the clarification.

  • cc has it all as a siger vocalist destroys that great rythm in this song wonderful shit here ... lyrics are sharp as a razer for shore ;0

  • i love the way chris sings "only" in the chorus.

  • Yeah I agree with you man. That's exactly why I like this song.

  • @fruscianteman My favorite part is when he sings, "I graze among the graves". Killer timing and groove.

  • I love this song and Pretty Noose, but I just found Down On The Upside really disappointing. I guess it would be hard to top Superunknown. But it just felt really disjointed. I felt everyone was trying to focus on their own talents and not work as a band.

  • to me its more like chris is just singing alone himself, only a little plingplong here and there you know, on that album. Still has a couple of dynomite tracks I think, including this song.

  • Hey guys put in "cambian dawn" stumbled across there vid and can't get the song out my head! words are not the world i think is the name of the song.

  • I checked those guys out after someone commented about them on Soundgarden's Loud Love video, saying if you like Soundgarden, check them out, and they BLEW ASS. Stupid spamming douche-bags.

  • arse hole

  • i miss this band too.

  • i love the solo on this song. that's some crazy wah-wah action. in a good way.

  • KILLER!!!!!!!

  • I remember the midnight release of this at newbury comics back in 96 it was a blast. Never knowing this was it! I know they'll play again!

  • I miss this band

  • man...........why did soundgarden break up????? that was the sign of bad things to come.....hands down(or all over) they are the best band that the world ever offered!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kingdiamond2

    AGREED SO BAD MY FRIEND!!!

  • @kingdiamond2 They probably felt they'd done everything they could do, musically. I haven't read what they may have said about it yet.

Ever offered? Perhaps not (there can be only one #1, and that's Led Zeppelin, of course), but they're way, way up there in the all-time greatest list!

  • I think what really makes this song great is how Chris says "Only", agreed? good.

  • Agreed 100%

  • It's the sound of the entire song, if you really listen closely to Cornell, you will realize that every single word he says is unique and powerful. Thats what makes him such a great singer.

  • oh yeah! Agreed!! for me, specially "ONLY bending when you break" after the solo...

  • For some reason the pictures look really low quality. The original pictures I used were good quality. Youtube's converter sucks.

  • Sorry it was Matt Cameron! Anyhow, great album.

  • Hehe : )

  • The music is by Ben Shepherd (bass), not Matt Cameron (drums). Ben Shepherd wrote a surprising amount of the music (but not lyrics) on Down on the Upside.

  • I saw them in October 1996. It was very surreal, especially Chris's amazing voice. What a band.

  • Great song from a great era. Take me back there please.

  • make that 2 tickets to 1996 please :P

  • 1992 you mean.

  • well this song wasn't release until 1996 but yeah 2 more to 1992 would be a great idea as well : )
