@thedude652 They said it was going to be a retrospective album, no anouncement of being entirely new material. so really it was expected. We're lucky it HAD new material on it.
@enemymouse I have to disagree. Their ENTIRE career was the best of that era and could not be copied. Ok, the early stuff sounded a bit like Zep but I think that was before they found their sound.
im kinda glad soundgarden hasnt gotten back together. i mean there are ALOT of bands that should have stopped making new music a long time ago, and i would absolutely hate to see soundgarden added to that list. chris cornell said he didnt want to get back together because he didnt want to mess with perfection.
BUT i would love to see them live playing the old music. but thats just my opinion.
I love this song and Pretty Noose, but I just found Down On The Upside really disappointing. I guess it would be hard to top Superunknown. But it just felt really disjointed. I felt everyone was trying to focus on their own talents and not work as a band.
to me its more like chris is just singing alone himself, only a little plingplong here and there you know, on that album. Still has a couple of dynomite tracks I think, including this song.
I checked those guys out after someone commented about them on Soundgarden's Loud Love video, saying if you like Soundgarden, check them out, and they BLEW ASS. Stupid spamming douche-bags.
man...........why did soundgarden break up????? that was the sign of bad things to come.....hands down(or all over) they are the best band that the world ever offered!!!!!!!!!!
It's the sound of the entire song, if you really listen closely to Cornell, you will realize that every single word he says is unique and powerful. Thats what makes him such a great singer.
The music is by Ben Shepherd (bass), not Matt Cameron (drums). Ben Shepherd wrote a surprising amount of the music (but not lyrics) on Down on the Upside.
so gland i saw their comeback!! haha even if Kim looked like he should retired knitting sweaters

I like the mix of heavy metal and psycadelic rock thats what made soundgarden so good

Kim is such a genius. The guitar work is so interesting and heavy. It's hard to do both at the same time anymore, and he's got it!

me too. usually when a band gets back together, their new music isn't as good as the older songs (but thats my opinion)
but your right about them playing the old music live that would be awsome!

Right on, a reunion tour or two would do it justice, followed by a dvd of the performances, then nothing, no more albums, not after 13 years

So yea, def. think that Kim is a very underrated guitar player. His ripping and wah wah pedal in this are kick arse!

Down On The Upside is very underrated also. I think it's my favorite SG album, followed by Superunknown of course.

i love how at the beginning the bass i believe fades out a couple of times, or it could be the guitar. can't really tell.

@kingdiamond2 They probably felt they'd done everything they could do, musically. I haven't read what they may have said about it yet.
Ever offered? Perhaps not (there can be only one #1, and that's Led Zeppelin, of course), but they're way, way up there in the all-time greatest list!
