@entengle : Coltrane played the flute once in his Love Supreme album on a track called "To Be'. Had he lived longer he'd surely would've played more flute. His wife Alice Coltrane was a talented harpist and as far as I know the only jazz harpist so far. Coltrane seemed to have liked using classic instrument in jazz. He played on many occasions with flutist Eric Dolphy. Jazz flute was popular in the sixties (Herbie Mann, Jeremy Steig, Hubert Laws...)
Eric Dolphy was well on his way to Jazz greatness and total legendary status as far as his talent went and could have achieved a whole lot more had he not died so soon while in his prime, underrated, gone but not forgotten, RIP
You're Dutch(?), I'm an atheist, by most people's standards. So, 'God' died with Eric. I feel Love Supreme is too preachy and besides, Trane didn't play flute.

So much originality. A true artist working with other true artists - the result - treasures in American music. Masterpieces without equal.

no, it was a Muramatsu, which was offered in ebay starting at US$7.000 some 5 years ago. Dolphy has been my idol for more than 40 years

The last time God 'spoke' was through Eric's flute.

Listen to Bud Shank's 60's flute as well. Lovely broad Moyse-like tone (but he only plays sax now).
