@nograviti i lived in lagos and attended uni there in the early 80's as well, lagos has TRANSFORMED in the last few yrs fashola has done an amazing job,i did not recognise my city from the last visit a decade ago wen i went home recently .. love it.. can most definately live in lagos again although i like the country side too which has a cooler vibe .. having lived in both the NORTH AND THE SOUTH of NIGERIA .
Actually, you don't have to 'pray' for something bad to happen to me in 419Lagos, I already KNOW something bad will happen to me. It's common anyway, innit?
Put it this way. A bloke I know of got out of the airport and into a taxi for his hotel. The driver stopped in the middle of no where, only to have 2 other guys jump out of the bushes to rob him of most his goods. AND THEY LEFT HIM THERE! Luckly, they didnt take his passport or other important items. And that same day he bought a plane ticket back home.
It seems ghana will overtake nigeria in many ways, even though nigeria have more wealth. They should work on the following projects first: 1) sewage system throughout whole of nigeria 2) electricity system throughout whole of nigeria 3) railway and bus system 4) communications satellite for broadband and phone system 5) paved roads with traffic lights and pavements 6) road names and signs 7) factories for manufacturing 8) machinery 9) schools 10) eliminate corruption.
I have lived in London all my life and watched its descent into a crime ridden, over taxed hell hole. Although it is certainly a lot wealthier than Lagos, that wouldnt be a fair comparison.
Compared to New York City, on every count excluding gun crime, crime now in London is worse. When it comes to infrastructure, Comparison to Tokyo is Laughable with its extensive inner city motorways. Even when compared to NYC, infrastructure is woefully inadequate...
@werewolf2058 That's because all that riff-raff came here.
But when it comes to Rem Koolhaas: he is one of the best architects this country has ever produced (and that says a lot since my country produced the best architects in the entire world).
A place is only going to improve if the people who live there want it to improve, and are willing to work toward that goal. Oddly, Nigeria has one of the worst poverty rates in the world, yet many citizens feel they have a high quality of life. How does that happen?
I remember flying over lagos from Doha. Nearly everyone (Nigerians) in the plane were sighing and wispering in disappointment because the whole place looked like one huge refuse dump compared to the other cities we just saw.
That's laughable. I've been on a plane before. Flown on a plane for many times, even used a plane to go from one state in America to another. There is noway you can see a city when flying over it. No freaking way unless you are stopping in that city, even if you flying in the same country. When people lie, do you guys even think before doing it?
Ya ya just to let the whole world know you've "flown from state to another in America". - We're discussing NIGERIA here spoilt brat!
Are u telling me u've NEVER sat on the extreme sides of a plane? close to the wing? Are you telling me they don't tell you to lift up the window shades on landing? That you can't see the city below at the proper altitude?
"laughable" u say. yes u can also speak English. ur mission has been accomplished. u now have my admiration. The same kind i have for IDIOTS.
LMFAO. Still laughable. Have you actually been on a plane? EVER IN YOUR LIFE?
Lift up the window shades on landing? LMFAO. When landing, they tell you to keep straight until the plane actually touches the floor.
Sat near a window? child you know the altitude a plane flies? you can't see a freaking anything except for cloud, unless you ass is some kind of superman. You keep making yourself sound stupid. LMFAO, aminute you flew past lagos, now you landed in lagos. LMFAO
oh my sincere apologies for calling u a brat. what i really intended was to call u what u definitely are: a BITCH.
really bitch, what reason would i lie abt being on a plane? Except for notice-me's like u who constantly seek attention by bragging abt where they've been and what not...
If i stated flying over lagos, yes that is still correct bcuz u have to fly over SOME parts of lagos b4 landing at MMIA. and my point was to state hw underdeveloped we are, not to teach aeronautics... [sighs]
It amazes me to realise that while we're talking serious issues abt the problems with Nigeria and how to improve, some self-important, all-my-needs-are-taking-care-of-by-momma, i-know-more-than-teacher whore seeks to draw attention to her miserable, self-centered self in a vain attempt to boost a dead self-esteem.... [sighs]
First of all, take your own advice. How there you call me a bitch, dumbass you tried to brag about passing throught lagos and all that shit, tried to brag about where you went. Then i busted you in your damn lie, so you got pissed off. Uneducated fool.
oh and by the way, You need to grow up. acting like a child, just because someone busted you for lying, you got offended. Hmm, maybe you should have stucked to the truth and say Lagos needs to improve instead of lying and claiming "when i was flying throught lagos, everyone in Nigeria started sighing and all that bull". Comeon, if you are going to use a plane to lie, at least say a statement that almost right. uneducted fool, sophomoric idiot.
You know what, now I REALLY know what's wrong with you. I was checking through your rather empty channel and I saw a comment which indicates you r also having a quarrel with another person on another video. It just confirms what I've suspected all along. You have some personality problems. A REALLY LOW SELF ESTEEM. All I intended was to share a valid point that i observed - that Lagos looks horrible from the air ( which I did observe) and not to brag abt being on a plane as if that kind of...
makes me any special. THEN you jumped in to discredit me by accusing me of lying, once u noticed that u don't share the distinction of having being on a plane (which is really not special). And then you threw in in your famous attention-grabbing punchline: "I've even flown from one state to another in America" Kid its really pitiful that you've chosen to boost your ego this way. Pls check within yourself. U definitely have good qualities worth selling. Being on a plane is not one of them sorry..
None of them started bragging about "Nigerians were signing and crying when passing over lagos in plane." And i asked, why lie? EVERYONE IN THIS WHOLE WORLD, can tell you that you can never observe a city when you're in a plane unless you're landing in the city or taking off in the city. Simple as that, Uneducated fool like you started bitching and moaning about how correct you are.

That's about it. I'm looking at my comment box RIGHT NOW and i don't see anyone i'm arguing with. I'll keep repeating the same stuff, STOP LYING. It helps taking advice from someone.

I wont reply 2 u again so others can share MEANINGFUL ideas. Take my advice. bye.
Wow. A really Low self esteem., Look at the kettle calling the pot BLACK. Child please, I DIDN'T START BRAGGING ABOUT BEING IN A PLANE AND OBSERVING LAGOS? Read the comments below, EVERYTHING WRITTEN BY OTHER FOLKS, They repeated the same stuff you said (Lagos is in a terrible shape, Lagos needs improvement, etc).
Also, yes, ifygurl is my cousin. I should beat myself over the head because of that. Still wondering how she's a bitch? I'm reading her post now and i don't see anyone arguing or insulting her except that kenyandama guy. By the way, Great thinking. Kenyadama (a guy i don't know, a guy i've never talked to) is my family member. A guy whose from Kenya and i'm from Nigeria. Great thinking there. I'm related to a guy i don't even know. Wow, how smart some Nigerians or whatever are.
I should rejoice. Nigerians help me rejoice. I found another phillip eweagwali in the making. Yes ohh, this one is a human dictionary. He was able to find a mistake. Nigerians LETS REJOICE, another phillip eweagwali, wole soyinka and chinua achebe in the making. LMFAO.
LOOL! u know sis, it's time to stop this. Since I hv d advantage of being 4yrs wiser than u, I think its time for U AND ME to stop being such idiots argueing abt irrelevant stuff. U shd know any names I called u aren't directed towards u as a person cuz I don't know u and neither do u know me. SORRY. Infact, if i met u in person, u kd be the nicest girl I've ever met (or even better, MY DATE. LOL am a guy!). Lets direct our thoughts towards going bk home to make our cntry better. What d'u think?
I have never noticed "stucked" in my dic. Oh sorry, I'm too illiterate to do that. You know, they produced microsoft word to assist in stuffs like this u-know. Youtube even corrects these days! You didn't notice? Get used to it. It'll sure help. Oh did i mention "How THERE you call me a bitch" LOOOOL!
I believe that a real scholar (and that was my biggest disappointment with Harvard Design School) should propose clear, pragmatic and applicable solutions to the problems he encounters, and not just pretty books to be publish at the expense of the students and the school.
I went to Harvard and met Koolhaas. I was so disappointed by his research. He just observes but he does not propose any solution to anything he studies. Its just the excitement of the recollection of data and the study of the processes that moves him, as if they were per se the justification for his ugly projects.
zatknight777 , who cares if there are houses that cost billions,.. the mentality state of a Lagosian or rather the country as a whole is always in question for a foreigner. What advancement are u referring to?
To the poster, are you sure you atre a university professor. It annoys me when European and even some dumb blacks think AFRICA IS A COUNTRY. Its no wonder they get scammered so easily and rightly so.....LOL
hmm i leaned something new. id never even head of this city before, corruption must be horrible for them to be in such conditions i hope they can someday get rid of that.
very typical, all this animals that keep going to Lagos and only focusing on the horrible parts. enough with focusing on just downtrodden parts of Africa, what about the cool places. Abeg jo! and for those who don't have anything tangible to say pls shut your traps!
I lived in Lagos for over a decade. I have been to many places around the world. I know what my experience of living in Lagos has brought out of me. If I have opportunity to live in Jupiter or Mars, I will make it there.
Wow! I too also lived in Lagos for 3 decades (almost all my life) before moving out. I see Lagos as a lawless, chaotic and full of avoidable parasitic infections (etc, etc). Emm; do you know the atmospheric conditions in Venus or Jupiter? These places are literally more hellish than you can imagine.
There are two side to a coin. So you should know not all Lagos is like that. There are more miliion dollar houses in Lagos that you so called L.A., besides I have seen worse in LA where the white, blasck and Latino scum live. So its quite amusing hearing you talk as if all L.A. is paved in gold.
i loved L.A. when i was there... L.A. is a very large city with many smaller communities around it. yes there are places in L.A. i wouldn't leisurely stroll through and are very dangerous. but you're comparing a city with a great infrastructure to a nasty looking trash heap. all those million dollar houses belong to the oil folks down there too.
lagos is a very pathetic looking place.just like the rest of nigeria.i wonder why nigerian musicians shoot their videoz showing alot of money and driving big cars that's being fake.you have to agree there is a lot of poverty down there.stop arguing and figure out how you ur going to solve the problem
what makes you think i am not trying to do something. I am only one man in a population of anything between 150-200 million people. Besides
any city in this world you are going to find rich and poor areas. But one thing I find very amusing is that if Nigeria is so bad, why are more and more foreigners going there to work and do business. More important in 2008 personaly i know about 30 nigerians who have gone back. Nigeria is improving abeit very slowly. But better to be slow that be static.
@vusomujo I can bet my life that you have never been to Lagos! What cars do u see in videos (even american music videos) that you do not see on the streets of Lagos? When the white people talk about poverty in Nigeria and Africa, it's largely based on disjointed and concocted statistical analysis that more often than not, fail to capture the real facts. Pls take your time and come to Lagos and also visit other parts of Nigeria before you run your mouth like a tap!
@ilorinboy08 Excuse me. I am an African American! This may be a strange question, but I was wondering if you could tell me, are those beautiful sky scraper buildings built by african hands? The reason I ask this is because there are so many racist whites in America that only show the bad side of Africa!
lmao!! ...hey im doing a presentation on lagos for my urban history course (studying architecture) and i was wondering if anyone can tell me where i can get a clear city layout map online of lagos. i've tried google earth and searching for one online but i can't seem to find anything. i'm looking for something that can show clearing the building and land use in the busiest area(s).
anyone notice lagbaja - kon ko below playing in the car?

Will any practical solutions for Lagos problems come out of this book and study? I doubt it.
pierobcn 3 years ago
I believe that a real scholar (and that was my biggest disappointment with Harvard Design School) should propose clear, pragmatic and applicable solutions to the problems he encounters, and not just pretty books to be publish at the expense of the students and the school.
pierobcn 3 years ago
I went to Harvard and met Koolhaas. I was so disappointed by his research. He just observes but he does not propose any solution to anything he studies. Its just the excitement of the recollection of data and the study of the processes that moves him, as if they were per se the justification for his ugly projects.

zatknight777 , who cares if there are houses that cost billions,.. the mentality state of a Lagosian or rather the country as a whole is always in question for a foreigner. What advancement are u referring to?

hmm i leaned something new. id never even head of this city before, corruption must be horrible for them to be in such conditions i hope they can someday get rid of that.

very typical, all this animals that keep going to Lagos and only focusing on the horrible parts. enough with focusing on just downtrodden parts of Africa, what about the cool places. Abeg jo! and for those who don't have anything tangible to say pls shut your traps!

If you can survive in Lagos, you can survive in any where in the universe.

Can you survive on Mars ir Jupiter?
7olusegun 3 years ago
I lived in Lagos for over a decade. I have been to many places around the world. I know what my experience of living in Lagos has brought out of me. If I have opportunity to live in Jupiter or Mars, I will make it there.
durosoto 3 years ago

So its quite amusing hearing you talk as if all L.A. is paved in gold.
zatknight777 3 years ago
i loved L.A. when i was there... L.A. is a very large city with many smaller communities around it. yes there are places in L.A. i wouldn't leisurely stroll through and are very dangerous. but you're comparing a city with a great infrastructure to a nasty looking trash heap. all those million dollar houses belong to the oil folks down there too.

lagos is a very pathetic looking place.just like the rest of nigeria.i wonder why nigerian musicians shoot their videoz showing alot of money and driving big cars that's being fake.you have to agree there is a lot of poverty down there.stop arguing and figure out how you ur going to solve the problem
vusomujo 3 years ago 2
what makes you think i am not trying to do something.
But better to be slow that be static.
zatknight777 3 years ago
@vusomujo I can bet my life that you have never been to Lagos! What cars do u see in videos (even american music videos) that you do not see on the streets of Lagos? When the white people talk about poverty in Nigeria and Africa, it's largely based on disjointed and concocted statistical analysis that more often than not, fail to capture the real facts. Pls take your time and come to Lagos and also visit other parts of Nigeria before you run your mouth like a tap!

@ilorinboy08 dont mind them, they base their ideas on what white media feeds their intellectually lazy minds.. lol!

@ilorinboy08 Excuse me. I am an African American! This may be a strange question, but I was wondering if you could tell me, are those beautiful sky scraper buildings built by african hands? The reason I ask this is because there are so many racist whites in America that only show the bad side of Africa!
