  • Does he play with the mouthpiece to the side or something? I just noticed that.

  • @MaGiCpEnGu1n Yes he does, if you look at some pictures he has really big lips.

  • @MrEcstreet54 I don't see how he can play like that, I tried it today. It seems really difficult and I can't relax when I play notes

  • @94Harrymitchell not ALL of them sound like ducks, im just so sick of people picking up sax, learning how to improvise and just blowing their guts out and excusing their bad sound as part of the way they they intend it to be. (not coltrane or parker or anything, they are amazing) but kenny g is still, before he became famous, an excellent jazz musician, who chose the pop route. and hes KIND OF jazz... and soulful isnt ducklike, so ducklike shouldnt be soulful

  • It's so cool to hate Kenny G. But it's so stupid and shallow. He's a really talented player with great tone. If the haters can't hear that then maybe it's music itself that they really hate.

  • @shankbone; I'm not even going to try to argue with that, because I agree with you. I just don't hate him personally. I think he's a great "cover" man. Every note is practiced, I want to know if he can create! I want to know what happens when the band breaks into 12 bar blues and G just lets it fly. I'm not sure it ever happens. I'm just glad someone is making money playing an instrument, and not just talking over samples of music from the past.

  • does he play without reverb ever?

  • uau q lindo.

  • His Tenor playing is good as any, better than some. Be grateful that SOMEBODY can make a good living playing these things. Oh, and Scott Hamilton is a good player, too. Try listening before you go poo-pooh. You might hear something you actually dig...

  • Remeber this, dude, Kenny G has his own music, it's not total Jazz, nor classic,.So it's really stupid to compare him with those Jazz players. it makes really not any sense.

  • I still can't understand why so many guys say that kennyG is shit. I mean of course I know micheal breaker, I love him too, I also know those who 's great at playing the saxophone in Classic music, which used to be my major. However that never ever stop me loving KennYg ,you cant cheat yourself. Kenny G HAS HIS OWN STYLE AND HE IS SUCCESSFUL. It'd not about Kenny G's performance, it's about how you guys cheat yourself. you are jealous,

  • I've seen him live and enjoyed every minute I took up the soprano sax after listening to him and ten years later I now play Alto Tenor I am only novice. I yes I wil never be like Charlie Parker etc but I have over 10 years of pure enjoyment playing, Kenny G is what he his you either like him or you dont

  • so what dude!!!!! what do you want from him to play like coltrane?

  • All I have to say to the haters is if he so bad how is it after like 30+ years he still selling CD's? Just saying. I like his music.

  • I'm so used to hearing Kenny G play smooth, cool jazz, but this was pretty outstanding, especially at Christmas time. Not everyday you find him swingin! Love this video!

  • Whats his setup?

  • TOCA DEMAIS.....COMENTARIOS MALDOSOS É PURA INVEJA KKKKK

  • @musicmanson But are you one of them? No. Your not. You cant play nearly as well as him, if you even can. I was just saying, he's been playing for like 40 years. Hes still an amazing musician. Stop hating on someone who has good talent. I never said he was the best, i just said he was an amazing player. I know theres better people out there. But thats no reason to not love is music. Don't twist my words.

  • How are you guys gonna say he's shit...when i bet none of you could possibly play with his expertise. I've been playing saxophone for 5 years now, and to get the sound he does take YEARS and YEARS and YEARS of practice. I respect him highly, no matter what he plays.

  • @chaiseyvyme Dude. There are way better people than him kicking his ass. If you want to learn anything, do yourself a favor and check out the real legends of jazz/BAM such as Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, etc. Those guys perform at a way higher level than him. You will be amazed. Listen to them and transcribe.

  • @moviesarealive its not that he doesn't play jazz, its that he does play SMOOTH jazz. Nobody likes smooth jazz.

  • People keep saying Kenny G ruined saxophone... How? He has a great sound and writes very impressive and chill music. It's not jazz... So what? Many talented sax players play music besides jazz. Why don't you try shitting on some of the other PROFESSIONAL musicians who don't play jazz? Is it because they don't have the haircut?

  • whats with playing out the side of his mouth

  • Transcribed a lot of Bill (Clinton)

  • see, why do people hate him so much? if any of you know anything about jazz, it should be that its subjective and its different from person to person. just because he doesn't squeak every few measures and sound like a dying duck (because its soulful?) doesnt mean its not jazz, its just a smoother, easier to listen to jazz. and hes obviously not that bad because people like him.

  • @sportsperson7 If you listen to a single coltrane recording you would learn that Kenny G is not jazz, i'm guessing you haven't as you seem to think a 'soulful' sax player sounds like a duck.

  • Fuck my life. Do you know how many times I'll listen to him play that instrument and wish that I was the one who could play like that?

I love that instrument and I play it in band class. I plan on playing it outside of school, but that's not till I manage to get really good...and I thought I was pretty good now... >.>

  • Music for people who don't know a goddamn thing about jazz. This man should be arrested for pandering to these types and for perpetuating their ignorance. Sad, and yet somehow touching at the same time.

  • @musicmanson, That's a bad thing he did there for sure! I once thought Satchmo played pretty simple until I tried to duplicate it. I heard similar things Jazz1bro heard about G. I saw him on some special, and he was humble then. He claimed not to be worthy of mention with the greats. He even said his music was not worthy of being called jazz; it was at best "instrumental pop." That I thought was humble. On the Saprono, I'm more of a Ronnie Laws fan... you know "Friends and Strangers."

  • I'm not a fan of this guy but when he's playing over the blues changes he doesn't sound bad at all I think. He chose to play smooth jazz which is a genre which really sucks but either way it doesn't make him any less successful. He gets paid; at the end of the day, he's got money and I don't. But I believe real jazz musicians are waaaaay more respected than folks that choose to play smooth jazz.

  • Kenny G's phrasing sucks. He sounds like a 7th grader at best.

  • @musicmanson A really really good 7th grader, with great intonation and who can circular breath

  • you might just be a fucking retard bro. kenny g has a finger print sound ok. this man is like no other, so what hes not jazz who cares.

  • como que chama essa musica?alguem pode me responder porfavor!!!obrigado

  • @gUimA555 Santa Claus is coming to town...

  • You know, the "G" is one of the most humble successful guys out there. He has done what he needs to do to EAT! Ya, know... his music outsells all others. Don't hate him for that please. And, many of us find him very easy to listen to. Coltrane and Bird set the bar so high no one will ever top them, EVER. Nice Christmas tune, easy to swing to, decent solo great tight band. Give the nice man his props.

  • @dxt82 Most humble, huh? This is the same guy who was quoted as saying Charlie Parker's stuff is "easy". Not easy at all. Even if it's not challenging at a technical standpoint, he revolutionized jazz music as a real jazz musician and not as this bullshit.

  • @dxt82 we hate him, because bird and coltrane brought the saxophone out of just being an "entertaining" instrument into being ART. kenny g brought the saxophone BACK to being "entertainment". there's no substance or personality to his sound, just reverb and empty melodic and sonic material. he makes money because people who don't know jazz (a lot of people don't) embrace his music because it's not as challenging or meaningful. "easy-listening" is for people who treat music like a decoration.

  • This is the Kenny G I heard with Jeff Lorber and instantly recognized his black influences that he has given credit to..Ttrane, Grover, Ronnie Laws,Stanley, and others. He can play the real deal. He had to make some money to live decently unlike so many who don't have the ability to do so due to lack of support from the industry who dumbed down music to make money too.

  • im a jamaica and in ja we say thats wiked yow it shell keep it up

  • 55, 555th viewer :3

  • He sounds good!

  • he got the money and enjoy his playing. thats all fucks.

  • Merry Christmas!

  • He looks like he is smoking a pipe...not playing a horn

  • @brianscottlange He is holding the sax like that probably because otherwise air would escape and of rcontrol. I have to do this too, as a damaged lip doesnt allow me to have the sax in my mouth symetrical.

@vandoren59 where can you hear a shitty musician in there?

  • Shit.

  • i feel sorry for that band...

  • sweet ill try tht

  • hey anybody thats a sax player ive noticed that if you hold your mouth just like kenny g it is 10 time easyer to play altisimo

  • Kenny G - still number 1 of this day

  • Kenny once again proves... He's shit.

  • @vandoren59 I hate comments like yours and other haters. If you don't like him why would you purposely view videos of his performance? And also tell me how he's shit. The mans making tons of money for doing what he loves doing in which I think is a major success. Chances are your probably an amateur compared to him with a big mouth. Shut the fuck up and have a nice day :)

  • @ThePhilimander He is hugely famous yet is horribly unoriginal. Listen to the licks he plays in his solo. All they are are simple, trite, cute little "saxy" blues licks that have been used countless times over by players over the years in pop/R&B. And that's not just this solo, but ALL of his solos. Any legit jazz player will tell you he's shit and that there are better players who should be getting just as much recognition as he is. Money doesn't gage skill in music. Artistic mastery does.

  • I much prefer him on tenor

  • @SchweigerTil That is a Tenor Sax lol

  • He sounds better than I do so...what can I say. I would be happy to play this well.

  • If there is ever a SimCity 5...

  • The Mcdonalds of jazz. what a joke

  • Playing X-mas songs? Isn´t he a Jew?

  • Nice pop sound and he's using nice ideas (although yes, cliche). But this gets a thumbs down because his time feel is atrocious. His phrasing ahead of the beat so much is destroying the great swing feel the band is laying down. There's no good reason why a player at this point in his career should be having this issue...on a simple medium tempo Christmas tune no less.

  • I play with the left corner of my mouth haha, I'm trying to correct it though

  • i'm not hating on him but why is he playing on the right corner of his mouth?

  • @therawest601 The way his teeth are shaped makes it hard for him to play in the normal position.

  • @therawest601

why not? not every saxophonist plays the exact same way, i play of to the side on soprano, and i sound beas, andim frst chair tenor in my college symphonic band and jazz band

  • Tremendo, sus licks son de memoria son identicos a como los grabó, eso significa que tiene una memoria espectacular, un "oído perfecto", o cuida que sus presentaciones en vivio sean lo que la audiencia espera de él. Awesome......

  • @genesis344 proof he can't play: none of those licks in his improvised solo are original.

  • @BAMeynig You assume he is playing pre memorized licks? Is that what you do? One of THOSE players.

  • @genesis344 lol i'm not really assuming...since i've heard pretty much all of them before from loads of players. and among "those players" are michael brecker, john coltrane, charlie parker, miles davis, sonny rollins, dizzy gillespie, carl fontana, joe lovano, dave brubeck, joe henderson, mccoy tyner, herbie hancock, the list goes on. not necessarily pre-written solos, but they've come up with ideas to put in their solos.

  • @BAMeynig So he was inspired. And of course it's fun to throw in fun Parking licks and changing them up to be original. Like walking a Bird lick up Chromatically or in Whole tones. Don't hate man.

  • @BAMeynig

proof that you are a douche: none of those licks in his improvised solo are in your musical vocabulary...

  • oh my goodddddddddd....mercenary

  • @genesis344 a friend once told me, Kenny G dislikes touring because he can't practice 8 hours a day when he does. He obviously has a work ethic and some talent to go with it. So yes I am in agreement with you.

  • @genesis344 His improvisations are elementary at best, so I wouldnt go so far and say he CAN play... Also Christmas Jazz is sell out material.

  • 98% of his songs are in key of G or C.

  • @Timothyjazz Many jazz songs have those keys... Probably written by musicians who had bad sax or trumpet players in their bands :P

  • @genesis344 yeah...he sells out EVERY NIGHT on stage .. lol fool

  • @darkais776 He is a great guy. And I have been to one of his shows. He also likes my playing as well. Trust me I know what I am talking about.

  • @genesis344 looks like you don't know what darkais776 is talking about...

This dude has his sax in a kinda not totally normal position in his mouth btw... It's normally kinda bad for your sound, but you can't hear it when this guy is playing...

  • @robbertzzzzz Go find some pictures of John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, and Cannonball Adderly. You will not notice a single "proper" embouchure. It's about the sound man, not how you look while doing it.

  • @genesis344 And again you don't seem you understand what someone is saying...

  • @robbertzzzzz Please explain to me then. Apparently it's going right over my head.

  • @genesis344 I was actually saying something positive about his embouchure, and you start thinking I find it extremely ugly or something... I said I find it cool that he has such a great sound, even with such an embouchure. Not the it looks ugly, and sound doesn't matter...

Oh, and besides that, all the sax players you named have/had totally normal embouchures.

  • @robbertzzzzz Oh, gotcha. I did assume you were attacking him for not having a perfect classical embouchures. My bad!

  • @genesis344 Actually, there's no such thing as "perfect classical embouchure". I've had *counting* five different teachers so far, and four of them told me how to have this so called "normal" embouchure. Every teacher explained another one...

  • man he has such a nice sound

  • I'm speechless.

  • good saxophonist with a good sense for business

  • nevi někdo co je to za zn.saxofonu ja mylsim že to muže byt selmer mark 6

  • If you thought that this was swinging, THEN YOU ARE HIGH.

  • This is awesome. So relax and lively.

  • I wish I could play Tenor like him.

  • Funny thing about people that gripe about "sell outs" - if given the opportunity to make a living traveling the world and playing in this sell out's band they'd jump at the opportunity. Heck, I would! See the world, get paid to play my horns, get experience on large scale CDs and concerts and rub shoulders with industry players. It would be an incredible (and potentially) highly rewarding experience. Sell outs are just making a living. Like all of us are.

  • @zero rules

you wouldn't say that to someone that says he takes hip-hop music more seriously than 50 cent, would you. just because he makes all the money doesn't make him good, it only makes him cheap. ask real jazz musicians and you'll know

  • @321pame lol people are entitled to there own opinion, but sir, your opinion is wrong :-/ don't be jealous because no one wants to listen to your music

  • I don't understand why there are so many haters out there. His playing, intonation, rhythmic feel, etc... are all quite excellent.

  • grande kenny !! enseñame a tocas asi !!

  • @321pame yeah but you can't play this on a sax can you u little asshole

  • @Edwardkor let's not go there smartass. i'll put it this way: i am growing in serious art; he is at the top of comercial shitmusic

  • @321pame Hopefully your playing is better than your grammar!

  • @321pame Then why arent you making all the money he makes dumbass???

  • @321pame lol, that's kinda harsh though

  • @321pame Because his tone is that flawless?

  • its fantastic ¡¡¡¡¡

  • randy waldman is insane!

  • haha alright lets see him take on cherokee or donna lee

  • @ziggysk8z he actually can do those tunes it's just he chooses not to play good jazz to make money! My friend told me there is a video on here on youtube of him doing giant steps which I have yet to find.

  • ma vai e caga e suona dritto

  • no és mucho belo esse sin mui belo

    /watch?v=Madt3M27BUo

  • HERMOSO SONIDO

  • Who is the bass player??

  • vail johnson

  • @entysax he's great, too!

  • this isn't jewish music

  • HAH!!!! maybe thats why he has the record for circular breathing
