@digger440uk A slightly different way of putting it - I interpret your post to say it sounds as though Google is claiming to have increased the number of people in detailed map ares by influencing people to move to these areas. I believe they are claiming to have increased the amount of detail around the world so that detailed areas have increased, thereby the number of people living in detailed areas has increased. If thats what you meant, then I totally agree with you - OSM is the true reason.
There were 2 people who presented, so given the comments of "BlakePable" it sounds as though he was NOT referring to Marissa Mayer. Overall there are some very interesting and powerful possibilities presented.
Looks powerful stuff, shame about the space cadet they had presenting, you've got to understand your customer and their data if this thing will fly, yellow lakes? Lazy. Seismic (Really - didn't look like it to me). Is it imagery, topography or shaded relief? Oh and enterprise GIS goes beyond a shapefile.
Given the capabilities of Google, I expected a little more knowledge of the GIS community and basic cartographic and analysis concepts...

That's ridiculous to say Map Maker is responsible for doubling the number of people who live in detailed mapped areas.
