I know. I've looked that up. But the part in this clip I know. And if I could get the lyrics with al the 86 verses I could learn it ennyway sense I study the languge.
There are many Faroese living in Iceland but in Reykjavík there is a place where they assemble. Also their language is similar to Icelandic. Beautiful country, beautiful people.
Is this song supposed to lament or celebrate Tryggvason's death? From the traditional version it seems like they're lamenting, but the Tyr version makes it seem like they're glad he got defeated.
The song is not a celebration nor lamentation of his death. Its more of a testemony. Olav war a brave warrior bar none, and thats what the song refelcts.
Hey Boladrion ;) I was looking for some Faroese dance :) now I have some stuff about it :)
thx for the video. I will learn all the lyrics ( I know some) for Ormurin langi and other songs and the dance. I hope to arrange with one girl workshop for Faroese Dance in my hometown Pulawy in Poland :)
fyi it is in a way diffrent speaking way than normal. xD AND this i think is about 120 Vers. You learn one "kvæði" (Faroese Chain dance song) each year in 1-10th grade in all schools on the faroe islands. And you learn, lemme see 50 verse of each "kvæði" =/ So yeah.
hehehe.. it is a bit hard to remember all the verses as there are for example in ormurin langi about 150 verses in the original "kvæði" and they prbably know about 75 diffrent "kvæðir" it is not that easy..
too bad other nordic lands lost this, wonderful dance

Viljið tær hoyra kvæði mítt,
viljið tær orðum trugva,
um hann Ólav Trygvason,
og hagar skal ríman snúgva.
Glymur dansur í høll,
dans sláið í ring:
Glaðir ríða Noregsmenn
til Hildarting.

the original dance version has 86 verses, so i do not think that týr's could have helped you that much.

Olav Tryggvason is a Saint in Faroe, because he introduced christianity, as the Faroe Islands are the Nordic Bible Belt, and paganism is not welcome.
Why are they speaking icelandic? is this from some faroese event in Iceland?
Trains2007 3 years ago
They all speaking faroese in this video. The dance is also faroese singen. The dance with this lyrica is my favourite. :o)

Listen to the women who say 'haah?' As a native Faroese speaker, I recognize her Icelandic tone immediately :-)
Anyway, I see in your Info that it´s dancing in Iceland.
