  • Top man, top playing!

  • I didn't get the sense of grandeur that I would expect from this piece.

  • This interpretation is close to an interpretation Andre Isoir made of this piece, I think, in the 70's. Believe it or not, Isoir,(le maitre) plays it even faster.

Delacour's playing is dazzling. If you need a metronome perfect and boring rendition, there are plenty out there.

    Bravo, Phillipe!

  • Very nice!

  • Larry Adler tried playing this on the mouthorgan. He got to bar 3 then his cheeks exploded.

  • Yes, he seems to make the music feel much more immediate than other performers I have heard. Thanks so much for sharing!

  • This is in every way a fantastic performance! Thank you for sharing.

  • Stunning performance!!!

  • Excellent!

  • Too fast for the ear to hear. If the notes are written, then one assumes they are written to be distinguished one from another. At this tempo it's no longer a happy piece, but more of a blur.

  • Wonderful playing, however the orgue is rather bright and doesn't have the full pedal division of Cavaille Coll organs

  • An excellent performance of a glorious piece of music, which I would dearly love to be able to play. The work is supposed to be dramatic and exciting: and it is, here!

  • Messiaen had a condition known as synesthesia which can cause a variety of differing automatic sensory stimulations. Messiaen's form caused him to see colors when certain combinations of sound were generated together. This helps explain the advanced use of harmony, dissonance, rapid chordal/key changes and other unusual techniques found in the maestro's music. Mr. Delacour's interpretation of Messiaen's "Transports de joie d'une âme devant la gloire du Christ qui est la sienne" is spectacular.

  • Parmi les interprétations présentes sur You Tube, probablement la plus convaincante. Superbe. Merci.

  • Woah. That was cool. This is the first time I ever heard a Messaien organ piece. I can't believe this was church music. I mean, it's quite disturbing at times.

  • What is church music supposed to sound like?

Bach wrote contemporary music in 1709-1725!

  • This performance was so spectacular, it made me cry

  • Spectacular, but not in accordance with the score which, for once was on the music desk.

Vif is an indication of tempo as well as mood, but i can not find the basic tempo in this. Accelerations, rests ignored in the pedal, early attacks. A nervous approach.

    Initial staccato?

Later "ad lib" which is disturbingly not "improvised".

    Then Vif, plus vif, encore plus vif and a written out rall 4 1/4 => 3 1/8 triplets => 2 1/8 => 1 1/4 => 1/4tied to 1/8. The last pedal entry is also too soon.

  • I found it very musical.

  • Bravo M° Delacour!

    (Un élève du M° Matesic)

  • Mmmmmmmmmmm.....not sure I like his interpretation.

  • Absolutely brilliant. I have 7 versions of this in iTunes and I rate this one 3rd overall, just below Latry and Byram-Wigfield. However, in terms of acoustics this is my favourite without doubt.

  • I don't know who this organist is, but monsieur, bravo!!! What fiery playing. Look at those hands my god! Only a frenchman could play so effortlessly without moving a muscle! This music to me, and much of Messiaen, is like the tearing of the "veil" between heaven and earth. Ugh! Does it get anymore sensual than at 2:02?

  • One of the very few organists whose playing makes sense to me.

  • Ottima esecuzione, molto chiara, netta e precisa. Come autore di musica anche per organo sicuramente mi piacerebbe ascoltare la mia musica in mano a un interprete così lucido nella riproduzione delle strutture!

    Complimenti

  • Awful and mechanic!

At the end like TGV ...

  • I agree. I hate to hear that final cadenza and the syncopated part right before it played fast. Take you time!

  • ...I love this music...

  • Moron.

  • To davbear: about 4.500.000,000 people really want to listen to that (with your permission, of course...)

  • Okay where are they?

  • WELL,everyone now worships simple mozart right, maybe in THREE HUNDRED YEARS,MESSIAEN WILL BE PLAYED LIKE MOZART TUNES ARE TODAY,i know the stuff is very heavy, but he wrote so,so much, give olivier a chance

  • @alezander666 I have been so obsessed with Messiaen's music lately!

  • When you don't like this kind of music.... bad for you, but please spare me (and the other people who know that Messiaen was genius) of comments like that!

  • I think that Mr. Delacour is one of the best organists today! His technique is indescribable good. I bet he can play this fantastic piece twice as fast as he does in this video:P

    Go Messiaen and Delacour!

  • Is playing fast a criterion of a good interpretation?

  • Not at all what I said.

Of course not but since this is a fast piece, I would say playing it fast is right. I wouldn't play this at the tempo Delacour does but still exiting!

  • Bravo !! Bravissimo !! Musichiere, you are doing great work !!

  • Brilliance. Great fluidity.

  • Wow, its magnific your interpretation of messiaen, very perfect in all sense. Congratulations, i would like to hear the sorite - messe de la pentecote, i love that song.

  • Magic! Such an inspiring piece played with technical accuracy. Thank you
