Biggzyboys- yes, this panther was hit by 6 rounds from an m4a1 Sherman, (if you've seen it up close there are tiny chunks of metal taken of the left hand side of the tank) but apart from that no more damage. But from what I believe this panther was stranded with the crew onboard, and the French resistance had taken the crew prisoner and shot the crew on the spot on the right hand side of the tank, thats why this tank is in the museum because no internal or external damage was done so the Britis
It would have been great if the design of the final drives was not so poor,more panthers were put out of action becase of this flawed design than any other cause
I think the best tank of the war. The Germans would have done better to have spent their strained resources building Panthers and Panzer IVs rather than the Tigers and especially the King Tigers...though in a strange way I'm glad they actually produced those two as they took armor and firepower to the limit and actually fielded those monsters.
My vote would go to the T-34/85. Much more reliable than the Panther, which was over-engineered. It had a great 75mm main gun, one the French copied in the post-war but at 53 instead of 71 calibres long. The Pather also had problems reversing and turning at the same time. Its suspension gave a great ride, but was too prone to getting plugged up with snow and/or mud. The French and the Soviets used some Panthers for a short period after WW2.
@MBguy2008 Panther vs T-34 and Panther wins hands down. T-34 was only superior because they were easier and more economical to build. Panther vs T-34 kill ratio was 6:1
Yes, it was a great tank, but the Panther is a more mobile and good all around tanks and the 75mm gun of this tank has the same penetration capability as the 88mm gun of the Tiger II due to the fact that both has 70 and 71 caliber guns.
where do they get the parts from to get these tanks running again? Assuming that the Panther is a work in progress. When I visited Bovington the panther was wrapped in plastic and not on display.
do you know if there going to get the panther to running order?i think it's got a complete engine and tranmission so i don't know why they havent done anything with it before.what a sight it would be with a mk3,mk4,panther and tiger all running together.

@tonidmc
They didn't the 88mm L71 of the king tigerv was more powerfull than the panther 75mm L70 as it has heavier shells which it more power at long range.
At short range it didn't matter against medium tanks as they were all pierced without effort by these guns.

@MrDobby0815 One of the worst was the king tiger
