he's just trying to rough up the pitch by appealing right in the middle of it, you can see the umpire's reaction, motioning him to just get off the pitch
i find it funny that people are claiming that Australian batsmen never walk.

2. There is no law in cricket that says you have to walk. as a batsman you only have to walk off the field after being dismissed by an umpire. If he doesn't give you out, you aren't out. simple as that.
I suspect the bowler was simply letting out his frustration at the cheating Aussies and the umpires that enable it by taking Pontings word over others (as has happened before).
Ponting had earlier refused to walk after being caught and pressured the umpires into letting him stay on (it was a low catch). Ponting had earlier in the series suggested that the fielders word was to be taken in such instances, and the Sri Lankans had done this (couple of low dubious catches, and the batsmen took the fielders word) - Ponting refused when his side was 3 - 10 and staring down the barrel of a defeat. And the same ump had earlier refused a plumb LBW shout against Ponting.
Hmm more Aussies scored 368 in this game and pereira and Jayawardene also appealed for a one bounce catch against ponting later when the score was 125 i believe and Muralitharan's figures read 10-0-99-0 at the end.
We Indians and our asian brothers have this habit. Well Ponting was given LBW out at Chennai in 98 against Raju when the ball hit his bat just like it did here. Fairly pathetic to see such kind of appeals and for one this guy is one bloody chucker suspended after 2002 lords test and suspended after this VB series never to be seen of again

I refer you to my posting of law 32. Glove has to hold part of the bat to be out caught! Should the ball be going on to hit the stumps and he bats it away with his hand then it would be out LBW.
It would be out handling the ball if he handled it while not in contact with the bat. The hand is classed apart of the bat if it is in contact with the bat, so why on earth would it be given out LBW? You are not given out LBW if the ball hits the bat. I suggest you get back to the rules.

as a point of clarification, gloves aren't considered part of the bat - thats stupid. They are considered part of the bat when holding the bat - hence why Kasprovicz (sp) wasn't out vs England in Ashes '05. Thank god it was given anyway but still :D

I refer you to Law 32 of the Laws of the Game:
Law 32: Caught. If a ball hits the bat or the hand holding the bat and is then caught by the opposition within the field of play before the ball bounces, then the batsman is out
"hand holding the bat" If the hand isn't holding the bat, it is not out.

im not sure about that mate, maybe ive misunderstood you. but kasper gloved it to the keeper - thats out.. and he was holding the bat i believe, otherwise batsman could just push away deliverys they didnt like

I refer you to my posting of law 32. Glove has to hold part of the bat to be out caught! Should the ball be going on to hit the stumps and he bats it away with his hand then it would be out LBW.

It would be out handling the ball if he handled it while not in contact with the bat. The hand is classed apart of the bat if it is in contact with the bat, so why on earth would it be given out LBW? You are not given out LBW if the ball hits the bat. I suggest you get back to the rules.
