Peculiar, yet Pleasing, Post indeed! You know - Perhaps the Presumably Pesky ants were Possibly Providing Protection for the woman by Placing her food - and then her - away from something Pernicious, like a Python, that was Perched in that tree! Just a witty thought (though also a Perfect Possibility as well!)
I was a little confused here, before she said "peculiar" at the end, was she surprised that all her food disappeared not knowing that it was the ants, or because the ants were carrying her away not knowing what was carrying her?
It's a gaffe. The left side of the tree is probably a foreground element masked to look like the background, though when when this usually aired on TV, that part of the screen would've been cut off anyway due to the "safe TV area" ratio.
P... picnic... with pineapple... porkchop... pizza... pumpkin... pot roast... and finally, peach pie. Of course, they deliberately left out Pepsi, since that's a brand name. I remember this well, and it was quite "peculiar"; BTW, what other sketch had the notes heard when the first ant came? I know there was another one, but I can't quite remember that one...
That may not have been one I had in mind, but a few hours after I posted, it finally came to me; I remember hearing those notes on another "What if..." if an anteater was like a giraffe.
With all of her food being hauled off by the ants you would have figured she would have seen the ant carrying the pizza away. She was looking right at it as it scurried away off the blanket, besides who takes a pizza on a picnic anyway? LOL
That is what I was thinking too. You wonder why she wouldn't think what the heck? This is total classic and I watched this as a kid. That must have been a strong army of ants to carry that woman! LOL!
When I first saw this skit, I noticed that too that she was looking at her pizza being carried away by the ant. Unless, her mind was focused somewhere else that she wasn't paying attention to the ant taking her pizza. I can tell that she was probably thinking of something when she set her pizza down and the ant carrying it away because her eyes look like they were half shut like she was in deep thought not paying attention to anything around her, or her foods she was taking out or putting down

Sesame Workshop just added this to the official site, with some weird music and sound effects added.

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think I saw this one on Electric Company.

Quite a few of these were carried over from Electric Company to Sesame Street.

I had no idea that this was originally from the "Electric Company"! Thank you very much for the information!

Point, passed and pressed.
(Whew... that wasn't easy to say)
Still... if was on that Picnic and the food never got caried away, I'd eat the Pot roast, the Porkchop, and the Pizza....
Provided it's pepperoni.

The sound of the first ant running sounds like the ants on the what if an anteater had long legs segment.

Always did seem kinda odd when the pizza showed up, and me going "there's no way she'll get that thing baked quick enough out in the open).

If they did, these poor ants would die of either stroke or heart attack due to the high cholesterol content of the lady's body. c",)

I think they just carried her away because they wanted to share the food with her.

Pardon me, Priscilla, but anyone who pigs out like that deserves to be perturbed on her picnic. (Anybody have a letter Q? ;-) )
