@HipRockInc because a civil union is the bill currently under consideration by the legislature. Focus et al have been saying to our legislators this is a "backdoor strategy towards marriage" and if our folks were to use the word marriage it would only validate what our opposition is saying.
@exgaysurvivordan I guess that makes sense then. I was born in Colorado (my family moved before I could establish any real memories there). It's good to see another state (I currently live in Maryland where gay marriage is a hot topic in our government right now) move towards granting homosexual people equal rights.
Still, using the word marriage should not be a detracting factor from the argument. Civil unions seem like a separate but equal institution.
@HipRockInc I agree actually about the separate and unequal :) And don't forget, Maryland, like most states with full marriage got there by way of passing civil unions first.
My question is, why are they lobbying only for civil unions and not full marriage?
