Well they are similar, as far as facial features go, but Tazmanian Devils are a lot more similar to Opossums than they are to Fisher Cast. Opossums and Taz devils are both marsupials and Fisher Cats are part of the Mustelidae (weasel, mink, ferret, wolverine, etc) family.

@Liyht Yes, VERY nocturnal. We hear them at night too where we live in northern Mass near the NH border. It sounds like a woman shrieking. Cougars also eat porcupines. I just saw the Fisher Cat for the first time today in a Washington state zoo. They were "eradicated" from our state in the 1970's. Now, they are re-introducing them into the wild on the Olympic Peninsula. I've heard of all the other mustelidae, but never the Fisher!! I fell in love right away! Way cool animals. @itv300 hm. Your dog is a hero to me. Say a hi from me. And those fishers are not cute, you (I should call you a name,as you called your dog but I wont,) A murderer like that you call cute just killed my beautiful cat!
@itv300 Haha my dacshund is the same way! He thinks he's the toughest thing on the planet. Though amazingly enough, he does manage to scare other dogs. I doubt he'd be so lucky when faced with a fisher cat, however.
@DrewAnti1960 just heard one about a week ago. i live in a town outside of waterbury. thought it was a woman screaming. i called the police and everything.
@DrewAnti1960 lol dude im from CT and never heard of em until my friend posted a status on facebook sayin there was one in his yard. where the hell have i been lol.
i love it when people go "OH NOES! IT ATE FLUFFY!!" maybe if you kept better track of your pets and didnt let them run around outside with free reign over the neighborhood, they wouldent end up as snacks for the local wildlife. as for the livestock owners/farmers, maybe get/build better enclosures for your animals or better (and cheaper) yet, get an LGD.
@agricola Exactly! I understand how it's easier just to let your cats (and other pets) run around free, but people have to understand the huge risks that they take.
these guys are serious animals and deserve to be treated with respect and caution - but they should not be feared - be thankful that they don't get much over 15 lbs in size :) can you imagine if these guys were the size of a German Shepard ?
I bet you dont go often in the woods if you are scared of a fisher, a small mustelid of 10 lb ... EVERYTHING will scare you in the wilderness, watch out for those bloody 8 inch squirell !!
I have no problem having these bastards destroyed!!! They have killed 3 cats one small dog in our family They have completely horrified my children 3 and 4 years old =( they have taken away my childrens best friends and they are horrible animals
@tracy1980tft1 They need to eat. they dont see a difference between your cat and a squirrel. they just want food to eat. You eat animals, you have probably eaten a cows father. food is food. every animal needs it. Your children need to toughen up if they are scared of it.
lol, how many people are going to post here and say "that's not a fisher that's a weasel" -- fishers ARE weasels, you weasel-brains :) Martes pennanti, family mustelidae. Surely if you can waste hours on youtube you can open a tab to Wikipedia for ten seconds to educate yourselves.
@safarigoo Fishers are apart of the Mustelidae family or the Weasel family. So, technically speaking, they ARE weasels. They are very closely related to the American Martan, who is also apart of the Weasel family. Aside from their appearance, that is why a lot of people call them weasels. =)
they are not weasles but they are related to weasles they are part of the mustelidae family and i named my account name after them because they are awsome mustelidae has ferrets, weasles, fishers, badgers, otters, pole cats, woulverines, ermines, and minks.
One (wild) Follows me around. It's creepy, It climbed up my back once and made a wierd noise. Then It jumped off and statrted jumping up and down like a crazy little monkey! I called the police, they took it away. I had to get rabies shot, and there are bite and claw marks on by shoulders and back!
Most people don't understand that they were brought here by humans to kill hedgehogs. But why try to kill one of those guys when you can eat someone's cat. They have no predictors and if no one hunts them there would be a ton of them. And don't underestimate them they can be vicious. My parents witnessed one trying to kill a newborn fawn. It ripped the poor things eye out and was trying to finish it off when my dad scared it off. It was just sad that the fawn ran away to so I doubt it lived.
i was wondering what jumped behind me and attacked a ground squirrel when i was living in lake louise. i thought it was a pine marten, but this is the thing! cool now i know.
Me I'm gonna go huntin' rednecks! They're easy to catch too! All ya need is a six-pack of beer (any shitty brand will do), some jerky, and a looped recoding of 'git er done!' to bring 'em in.
Lord knows there are too many of 'em. And if we don't cull the population, by golly they'll overpopulate and starve to death! They're simply aren't enough pork rinds to feed the critters!
I love people who don't understan what they are talking about. You have no idea what these animals are like. They will eat your fluffy kitty or small dog. Then how much would you like them.
I think if we have to deal with all the wolves eating all the deer and elk in Idaho. We should introduce more Fisher in southern Idaho to take care of all the stray cats people have let go wild and take over everything, but no we have to build more shelters to house them paid by us.
oh great, kill a wild animal that is trying to survive. hopefully we'll kill everything else too that is even mildly harmful and we'll make everything extinct that isn't soft and cuddly.
You can get $70 for their pelts. Not sure if it's worth it. It will be tempting to utterly destroy the beast by unloading a 40 round map into its carcass. I think I will use its meat to lure other fisher cat into the trap.
They don't eat cats. There was a survey done of their stomachs and only one had cat hair and it was probably from a small bobcat. They don't bother housecats, they are very shy and don't come around humans, they stay in the woods and primarily in trees, this video is unusual because you see it on the ground. They are almost 100% arborial, rarely touching the ground.
You're an idiot. They've eaten 3 of my cats. I've seen two of them myself, they're ferocous. My mom saw a fisher cat cross our road the same month that our neighborhood was ravaged by them. There were half eaten cat carcasses in the woods. The study I think you are refering to actually said that cats were common in the fisher's diet, just not the primary thing.
I will dedicate this december to killing as many fisher as I can.
OK ,my buddies cat was almost dead when he pulled a fisher off of it in the middle of his yard . he was trying to EAT him. we have lots of other animals like chipmunks for them to eat. SHY ? this was at a house with 2 dogs. your facts arent shit compared to eye witness know it all!!!!

also love people calling these critters "cats" when they arent remotely related to felines whatsoever. their just overgrown martens.
agricola 1 year ago
i love it when people go "OH NOES! IT ATE FLUFFY!!" maybe if you kept better track of your pets and didnt let them run around outside with free reign over the neighborhood, they wouldent end up as snacks for the local wildlife. as for the livestock owners/farmers, maybe get/build better enclosures for your animals or better (and cheaper) yet, get an LGD.
agricola 1 year ago
@agricola Exactly! I understand how it's easier just to let your cats (and other pets) run around free, but people have to understand the huge risks that they take.

these guys are serious animals and deserve to be treated with respect and caution - but they should not be feared - be thankful that they don't get much over 15 lbs in size :) can you imagine if these guys were the size of a German Shepard ?

I have no problem having these bastards destroyed!!! They have killed 3 cats one small dog in our family They have completely horrified my children 3 and 4 years old =( they have taken away my childrens best friends and they are horrible animals
tracy1980tft1 1 year ago
@tracy1980tft1 They need to eat. they dont see a difference between your cat and a squirrel. they just want food to eat. You eat animals, you have probably eaten a cows father. food is food. every animal needs it. Your children need to toughen up if they are scared of it.

lol, how many people are going to post here and say "that's not a fisher that's a weasel" -- fishers ARE weasels, you weasel-brains :) Martes pennanti, family mustelidae. Surely if you can waste hours on youtube you can open a tab to Wikipedia for ten seconds to educate yourselves.

whats a fishercat?
sallygracerocks 1 year ago
Thats not weasel, mink, otter, wolverine...it is a fisher. Google it tards
safarigoo 1 year ago
@safarigoo Fishers are apart of the Mustelidae family or the Weasel family. So, technically speaking, they ARE weasels. They are very closely related to the American Martan, who is also apart of the Weasel family. Aside from their appearance, that is why a lot of people call them weasels. =)

@TheMustelidae7 You know what your talking about. I'm interested in meeting you.

@TheMustelidae7 - WRONG! They are all members of the weasle family. They just vary in size from the Ermine to the Wolverine.
Solowizard 1 year ago
@Solowizard Mustelidae is the latin name for the weasel family. So you're both right, only TheMustelidae7 was more scientific.

AreYouGreenEnough 2 years ago
Most people don't understand that they were brought here by humans to kill hedgehogs. But why try to kill one of those guys when you can eat someone's cat. They have no predictors and if no one hunts them there would be a ton of them. And don't underestimate them they can be vicious. My parents witnessed one trying to kill a newborn fawn. It ripped the poor things eye out and was trying to finish it off when my dad scared it off. It was just sad that the fawn ran away to so I doubt it lived.

look it up its called a fisher CCCCCAAAAATTT!!!
Householdproductions 2 years ago
Me I'm gonna go huntin' rednecks! They're easy to catch too! All ya need is a six-pack of beer (any shitty brand will do), some jerky, and a looped recoding of 'git er done!' to bring 'em in.
Lord knows there are too many of 'em. And if we don't cull the population, by golly they'll overpopulate and starve to death! They're simply aren't enough pork rinds to feed the critters!
RavenFire70 2 years ago
I love people who don't understan what they are talking about. You have no idea what these animals are like. They will eat your fluffy kitty or small dog. Then how much would you like them.
Opethfan79 2 years ago
I think if we have to deal with all the wolves eating all the deer and elk in Idaho. We should introduce more Fisher in southern Idaho to take care of all the stray cats people have let go wild and take over everything, but no we have to build more shelters to house them paid by us.

HazzTube 2 years ago
You can get $70 for their pelts. Not sure if it's worth it. It will be tempting to utterly destroy the beast by unloading a 40 round map into its carcass. I think I will use its meat to lure other fisher cat into the trap.
forestfeanor 2 years ago
omg i have them to i live in warwick RI
and they r eating all the cats in the neighborhood
XxibubblesxX 2 years ago
They don't eat cats. There was a survey done of their stomachs and only one had cat hair and it was probably from a small bobcat. They don't bother housecats, they are very shy and don't come around humans, they stay in the woods and primarily in trees, this video is unusual because you see it on the ground. They are almost 100% arborial, rarely touching the ground.
FancyPantsElitist 2 years ago
my cat got attacked by a fisher cat so i dont know what you're talking about
mattyonelove13 2 years ago
You're an idiot. They've eaten 3 of my cats. I've seen two of them myself, they're ferocous. My mom saw a fisher cat cross our road the same month that our neighborhood was ravaged by them. There were half eaten cat carcasses in the woods. The study I think you are refering to actually said that cats were common in the fisher's diet, just not the primary thing.
I will dedicate this december to killing as many fisher as I can.
forestfeanor 2 years ago
you are retarded they will eat anything they can and they dont just live in trees they just hunt in them
realtree128 2 years ago
OK ,my buddies cat was almost dead when he pulled a fisher off of it in the middle of his yard . he was trying to EAT him. we have lots of other animals like chipmunks for them to eat. SHY ? this was at a house with 2 dogs. your facts arent shit compared to eye witness know it all!!!!
jayo1620 2 years ago
That study was done in 1980. Fishers have moved into the suburbs much more since then.
Oh, and one ate my cat, so your wrong.
