Looks like Grand Cay sand bar.  The rays have been conditioned by feeding to be gentle and kind in return for food. Though still a threat they usually will not harm a thing. Their mouths like strong vac's make sure and let go of fish or your hand will be sucked up as well. Slide feet on sand bottom no stepping and should be good!! Aloha...

This is standard on any lagoon tour in Bora Bora and Moorea, I was there last month and did the same thing, just like everybody else on the tour.

as a scuba diver with 350+ dives, I assure you, sting rays pose no threat to a normal person. As much as I admire Irwin, he was likely 1) teasing/hassling it or 2) swimming directly above it and really close and it scared the animal. Stingrays are like puppies, gentle, and just looking for a treat.

they're gentle giants really. as long as they are use to humans interacting with them.

steve irwin went diving amongst stings that aren't use to humans.

stingrays love the attention.

I'm hoping to either visit the maldives or bora bora this year. I'm look forward to playing with some stingrays :)
