I saw this a number of years ago. It was a tv movie, not a pilot. I don't recall them trying to bring the show back, this was during the time when they were doing a number of reunion movies of older tv shows. They also did the Brady Bunch, Father knows best, and many. many more.
Must not have been able to get the rights to the original theme at the price they wanted. This must be the first of many knockoffs of the Addams family theme
Lisa Loring...Wednesday...was on some soap opera in the 80's.I know this not because I saw her on whichever show it was,but because I saw her in Playboy,as part of a pictorial along with other soap-opera actresses.
There's one picture of her, nude under a silk negligee, seen from the back as she stands at the base of a circular staircase.
One stormy night a child was born... Hi Guys - I just finished the intro for my first horror film "Genesis and Catastrophe". It's on my channel. If you like it please leave a comment and if you dislike it please don't be rude, I very much appreciate your support! Desperately in need of funding to carry on all donations, money, food, shelter or paperclips, are welcome!
Please rate, comment and pass it on to your friends.
I remember seeing this on TV sometime in the 80s. I do recall that there was a Wednesday Sr and Jr, and a Pugsley Sr and Jr, respectively. See, the senior versions were the *original* actors (now in their late teens/early 20s) and the jr versions were child actors. I also remember that Gomez's twin cousin was also featured in the show. I wonder why Carolyn Jones was billed as a special guest star?
Our local station used to show this every Halloween right before trick-or-treating would start. I would watch it each year - almost like a mini-tradition but without Elvira being involved.. lol
Not sure if someone addressed this already, but why is Carolyn Jones (Morticia) a special guest star? She was the mother of the household. Did she not appear onscreen for very long?
@MissMom4evr Maybe they wanted to give Carolyn Jones the special "And..." billing but just went with Special Guest Star instead; you can judge for yourself: the entire special is on YouTube in 7 parts :)
@fivebearrugs Remember when Carolyn Jones starred in the old soap Capitol? It was only on for a few years in the early '80s, and I believe, was replaced by The Bold and the Beautiful. I think Carolyn died (in real life) and was replaced by some dog-faced actress.
@redletter2008 I have vague memories of that show since I was born in '79, lol, although I did read that she was in ailing health when she was on it, something about her sitting down in all of her scenes, and then she eventually died of cancer.
Cool It's the Halloween Special ...I've got this on VHS in a box some where with stuff from my childhood..lol...now if I only knew how to get it onto my pc I would post it.
Was it really a pilot? I just thought it was a special. I'd love to have seen a continuation, especially considering how lovely Wednesday had grown up to be!
Wish they had an episode with Elvira in it as Morticia's sister, possibly trying to woo Gomez away with her. Unfortunately, she would have only been around 13 when The Addams Family aired.
It's nice to see them in color! But it is too weird to see Pugsley & Wednesday looking so grown! I liked them better as kids...Pugsley lost weight! How did they pull it off in this ? Were they already grown teenagers in the storyline for this ?
@AmericanEvita Yes, Pugsley and Wednesday both came home from their respective boarding schools (witch doctor for Pugsley, music school for Wednesday). Both were "Sr", as there was also a Wednesday Jr and a Pugsley Jr in the special as well. :)
I knew I wasn't seeing things, except for Grand ma Adams, that's the original cast,11years older..Lisa Loring played wednesday ,she was about 17 yrs old,so she looks hot in 1977. Ken Weatherwax 21 yrs old. Back in the 70's they tried alot of reunion specials.
No. That is not Wednesday. Wednesday was pale and creepy! And homicidal! Not pretty and lovable! This is a total screw up...even t hough it was before the ACTUAL show...
@tinngrinn They were actaully quite kind and cute on the original show, in the movies though they were portrayed as morbid devil worshipers, so the kids should look like that.
@tinngrinn: *growls* Christina Ricci only made Wednesday pale, creepy, and homicidal in the movies of the 90's (and subsequent actresses have done the same), but originally, Wednesday started out as the cute and loveable sibling. As Morticia and Gomez said in the Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the 1970's, created right after the 1960's sitcom hits its major stride: "Wednesday's turning out to be such a sweet and darling little lady." "Cheer up, maybe we'll have better luck with Pugsley."
There was a halloween special I remember seeing in the 80's mid to late...it aired on a saturday (halloween) afternoon or morning. I remember it had some original cast. I don't know if this was it or not. they were having a halloween party.
@h193013: They HAVE "The Munsters" for that. With that said, I always wanted an Addams/Munster crossover to see how the two freaky families would hit it off.
OMG! I remember seeing this!!! I only remember it because of the part where they're all doing eachothers hair. No one ever knew what I was talking about when I would mention that.
It's not Boooobierela, it's Elvira. Actually, Elvira was inspired by Morticia from the Addams family comics before the addams family tv show even started.
Sadly I have no VHS to computer converter, in fact it might have even been given away to the Goodwill by my mother, but I remember just about every part of it. I'll check next time I am go home.
Another way: If you have a DVD recorder, copy it to DVD, then install a DVD ripper (preferably with a basic editing program) on your PC. Finalise the DVD, then put it in the PC's disc drive, then use the DVD ripper to "rip" the video off the DVD and then edit it.
Or an even simpler way would be to copy 10 mins of the show to DVD, stop recording, then copy another 10 mins etc (at 10 mins is the video limit on youtube). then rip the DVD, export as MPEG4 (.mp4) and upload to youtube! :)
You should post some clips. I loved this movie, only for nostalgia reasons of course. It was the only version of the Addams Family on videotape rather than film.
I still pull this tape out every year. I always trip out to it. The song, "Merry, Shh, Creepy, Halloween", with the candle staircase walk, is the best part. That, and the dancing during the Halloween party.
I've wanted to see this for some time. Just becuase I've been an Addams fan since the age of 5. Kenny Wetherwax who played Pugsley in the original show once said "Whoever wrote that special should be shot".
This TV ad is a promo..I wasn't around but I do know that in Halloween of '77, this special episode was made and it was said to be lousy but that's part of the "camp" that was Addams Family...it looks great in color
I remember they showed this on TBS on Halloween (possibly more than one Halloween) around when the first Addams Family movie came out, and maybe the second too. They sold it on VHS, but never on DVD. Wish I'd gotten it. There are so few Halloween specials around, and most still aren't on DVD, like Halloween That Almost Wasn't and Raggedy Ann and Andy. Man, Wednesday got hot, by the way. Someone please post the whole program!
Wonder why this had a bit of Elvira cut into it...
I saw this back when it first came out in 77-it was lousy. That's tough to say cause I am the biggest Addams Family fan. The storyline was terrible, boring, and cheap!
