Actually he learnt to speak Portuguese with his Brazilian team-mates, and he speaks impressively well for someone who never lived in Portugal or any other Lusophone country. He actually cries during the national anthem before every game he plays for Korea DPR. Funny fact: his parents are both second generation South Koreans.

@maurimc I think it's because he plays professional soccer in Japan. There is a large population of Brazilians in Japan and vice versa. Not only that but he was actually born in Japan, so that might explain why he speaks good Portuguese.
