  • Fedorov doesnt fuck around

  • Fedorov krasava!)

  • GR8zky great only in canada

  • Christ, it still looks weird to see Gretzky wearing a Blues jersey.

  • @mackie252007, LA went in Finals because of 99; he was hot in playoffs and Roy stole the series; simple as that! Thus, Gretz was ahead of his time: he was the best passer to ever laces skates; Gretzky's intelligence and reading of the game were unmatched. He was adept at dodging checks from opposing players, and he could consistently anticipate where the puck was going to be and execute the right move at the right time (hockey IQ).

  • @mackie252007, He wasn't playing for great team either! Hockey is worth 5 on 5. Gretzky (even as a rookie) made Blair Macdonald&Brett Callighen famous. Blair played 2 seasons w/ The Great One. He scored an astonish 72 goals in his first two seasons and then signed a lucrative contract w/ Vancouver. Results? He scored only 21 other goals… In his rookie campaign, Gretzky ties Marcel Dionne w/ 137PTS, but Dionne played w/ Simmer&Taylor, while he was playing w/ amateurs.

  • Red Wing fans all know how this one ended...#19

  • go canucks go

  • well wayne is a bum.. he's lucky mario got hurt otherwise he'd be the greatest one you can tell how the transition through the years of where wayne was amazing cause goalies used 2x4's for goalie pads to today where te full sized gear slowed his progress down his ability didn't mean shit and he was never the same player ..and fyi russians are better

  • @steven4rmnewyork 2857 is the number of points gretzky amassed during his career.

1,887 is the number 2 spot. There's 970 points difference between the two. Mario was great, but stats don't lie. Plus Mario had 1700+ with one NEAR 200 point season with 199 points, which he never got. Gretzky scored 200+ 4 times and nearly did it 5 times. Slooooowwwww your role.

  • how many cups did Gretzky win after leaving the Oilers? "The Great One"?

  • @mackie252007 Check the Stats to know about "The Great One."

  • Gretzky is a phenomena that no one can replace

  • When they were both on their prime wayne is much better

  • Love Federov but poor Gretzky was well past his prime in this era.

  • @Mikenaf123 plus he was playing for the Blues... and if I remember correctly they weren't doing to well up until recently

  • I miss the old hockey lol

  • Gretzky's worst game, this and then the turn over to Yzerman to end the series lol

  • Fedorov was probably the greatest all-around player to ever come out of Russia/USSR. Not to mention one of the best two-way players ever, period.

  • @SilenceIKissYou Funny thing is (and im not just saying this cause im a Wings fan) but if anyone is a better 2 way player than Fedorov, its Datsyuk!!!!!!!!!!! GO WINGS

  • it would have been a penalty because he put the stick way high up on to gretzkys stick... but thats in todays game

  • datsyuk couldn't hold a candle stick to fedorov in his prime

  • @ovywan08 I'd disagree with that. They are both amazing players.

  • @ovywan08 i like fedorov but datsyuk is just as good

  • Feddy! Favorite player since like 91-92. He was so good and never FULLY got all the credit he deserved for those Red Wing teams.

  • Hehe he took the pock pretty easly but still you cant compare the great Gretsky in only one action i could take off the pock from gretzky to but does its make me better than him?

  • That looked absolutely effortless by Fedorov

  • lol a lot of the redwings players still play today

  • Gretzky is the Greatest of All Time! Period. Imagine the points he would have today if he could play? No hooking, holding, clutch, and grab, he would have 4 on 4 now (again), no red line for off sides, etc. The game has opened up so much he would get 200pts every year, vs only 4 times. I mean, 4 more times than anyone else in history. Players have it easy these days, Hell, they don't even fight or rarely hit anymore.

  • @TheBilliebobsmith

I don't think Gretzky would have more points in this era than in the 80s. If you look at the average amount of goals scored per game during the 80s vs this era, it's a lot higher int he 80's and it's because the defensemen were slower, goalies not as good and goalie pads smaller also. It's a lot harder to score these days than before that's for sure.

  • @Spetz you kind of summed it up with your first three words. "I don't think"

  • @TheBilliebobsmith

wow good one...look at the fucking statistics. Goal scoring was at it's all time high during the 80's when Gretzky was in his prime. Would he have been an elite player now if he was young? Absolutely. Would he be putting up 200 point seasons? No way. Defensemen can skate these days, goalies are MUCH BETTER...defensive schemes are MUCH BETTER....opposition is MUCH BETTER with the high influx of Europe's cream of the crop at an all time high. It's much more difficult to score.

  • @Spetz You have a good point about the goalies, they had smaller equipment, but players had shity sticks and skates compare to today. But with all the other great players their was in those years, can you tell me why no one came close to having the same amount of points in a single season? Goalies were also smaller for Messier, Lemieux, Lafleur, Maurice Richard and so many other great player. The truth is Gretzky was in a league of his own.

  • @SH0WTIME09

Gretzky is the best of all time I won't say anything to the contrary ever. I'm just pointing out that overall people were scoring a lot more back in his era. The total goals per game over those seasons were much higher than now. Until the Europeans started coming they didn't really play two way games in the NHL, there were no defensive schemes like there are now. Everyone then had shitty skates so that's equal, but the defensemen now are much faster also, can't grab/hold anymore.

  • haha Gretzky in no way shape or form looks the part of an elite athlete, yes this is at the tail end of his career but come on he looks choppy as hell, he was never as skilled as Sergei Fedorov

  • @JRR812 Gretzky definitely was past his prime but still he was one of the greatest in hockey history. He should have retired after playing in LA

  • Хоккей, как бой...

  • 313

  • This is when the NHL was a mans league

  • two of my idols < and one is it sergei fedorov

  • gretzky=world's best ...cherry picker gretzky was a huge defensive liability for any team he ever played for he was always the first player out of his team's zone. seen him many times waiting at center ice.

  • @The1bassfreak well when you get between 100 and 200 points a season i don't think the coach will mind. :P

  • @danhabsfan9 all u have to do is put your stick around the the guy and its a hook in today's game horrible

  • Gretzky > Any other fucking NHL player to exist.

  • good back check

  • I think even Federov couldn't believe he did that so smoothly

  • Most penalties are called due to game situations & who is doing the infraction.

It must be difficult for the Refs to know when to call& when not to?

What is the score? If it's 3 or more goals difference, the team up will get the penalty. Why? Because the sponsors don't want a big goal spread, for fear of the TV viewers will turn the Ch.

Even score,..a European will get one every time, especially if it's a Russian. It's how they keep N/A's up in the scoring, satisfying a huge N/A audience.

  • good old hockey

  • Even the greats are only human

  • Anything is hooking anymore. All the penalties that get called in todays game are jokes. Then there are some things that should be penalties that are never called. Officiating in the NHL is a joke anymore.

  • thumbs up for Waynes old Jofa helmet!

  • Nice hook Sergei!

  • This quality is great! I look at some videos from 2008 and the top comment is about either a "toatser" or a "potato".

  • Gretzky did not have a good game at all this game... losing the race to the puck here, and turning it over to Yzerman to end the series lmfao..

  • for everyone saying this would be a hook in today's game, if you look closely he never actually "hooks" Gretzky, only used the bottom part of the shaft of his stick to slightly leverage him off. pretty clean ;)

  • @tintin025 It would still be called regardless, they're not saying its apenalty just that it would be called (totally different).

  • @tintin025 may have been called.

  • @tintin025 Yes indeed it was legit you can even see Gretsky tap his back a couple times as in nice job.

  • @tintin025

Most hooks and holds that are called now are clean (or holding the sticks)

  • @tintin025 well it might be called a hook today, but hooking calls today don't make any sense at all.

  • @tintin025 actually if you look at the first attempt he got him up in the chest area the second one almost gets him in the face I would have called a penalty then but the stick lift I agree absolutely legal but the first two i would have called hooking even then he was trying to lift the stick but he did get him with the hook to slow him down to get the stick lift

  • @Texan2525 Not even close. Watch some tapes from these older games. Guys would literally pull the player in front of them backwards. This was minor. No doubt it would get called in todays game and probably lead to a suspension, but this was good hockey. To many pussies coming into the league these day.

  • @tintin025 It was clean, but the problem is it may well be a penalty in today's game. Today's game sucks and that's a reason why. I can't stand seeing things like that being called penalties but it happens a lot. Perfectly good defensive play though.

  • @tintin025 actually it would be a hook in todays game because before he took the puck off him his stick came up and was parallel to the ice which is a hook :)

  • Great play! Sadly it would have probably been called hooking in today's NHL.

  • Сейчас бы Федорова удалили за зацеп

  • 2 for hooking!

  • comon...take it easy. This is at the end of Gretzky's career. I'd like to know the age difference 'tween them.

  • I was like...a little child of 4-7 during 1990s and didn't know shit about hockey...Now I look at all those videos, I've missed a lot! If only I was a little older!

  • Sergei was my FAV Red WING!! LET'S GO RED WINGS!!!

  • What the hell happened to white skates? The best looking one's I think.

  • @PatrikLarssonRang Nike skates were kinda gargage

  • @carbonfiberfan Yeah I know, they were clumsy, but they look good. The colour never makes the inside suck.

  • @PatrikLarssonRang They merged with Bauer so they are most likely better now.

  • @carbonfiberfan Yeah have to be.

  • O GEE. I wonder who the better skater was ;) fedorov made him look washed up

  • great backcheck

  • @TheQneb That was a totally clean steal. He just lifted his stick, I'm sure Gretzky would agree. Anyway, Fedorov was the greatest defensive forward I've ever seen, he even played an entire season as a defenseman, and THE single most beautiful skater ever. Watching him skate was honestly like a religious experience. I'm a Leafs fan (please, spare me the insults) and I love the guy. Hockey was 100x better in those days, unless you like 40 mins of penalties per game to inflate goal averages.

  • @ViaggioFM Thank you. I agree with every word you said, Federov was by far my favorite player growing up and I'm also a leafs fan.

  • @ViaggioFM I agree on most of that. Fedorov was amazing at his peak - first and only player to win the Hart and Selke in he same season ( 1993-94 ) and his skating was unreal. Hockey was definitely better then - by far. Today's game sucks, yet they keep trying to tell us fans how it's the "New NHL" and how much better it is. 20 penalties a game in order to artificially create goals, like us REAL hockey fans are too stupid to see through that. It aint the goals its the play, and the play sucks,

  • Back then they let them hook and grab and stuff to make games less goal parties, today they dont let them do anything and try to make em more goal parties... What goes around, comes around.

  • Now imagine if Gretzky played in the 80's against players like Fedorov, Zetterberg or Datsyuk who backcheck, he would never have had any 90+ goal/200+ pt seasons.

  • @Scarecrow76 Not true, he had plenty of hard nosed players on him throughout most of the 80's but they had to pay for it by facing Blake, McSorley and MacTavish. When Gretzky was sent to the Blues it was basically the end of his career, he was rather underwhelming with the Rangers (as are most near retirement players the Rangers tend to pick up).

  • @sookster54

Idk man, he sure as hell didn't seem underwhelming to me. He was 5th in scoring his first year with the Rags and was awesome in the playoffs. He was 4th in scoring in his second year. Both those years he had 90 plus points. His last year he had 67 points and then retired. He still put up better numbers then most nhlers that retire these days.

  • @dobadriver Because he basically did most of the passing, which is what he's always been good at. Much like Henrik Sedin today.

  • @sookster54

So, Henrik Sedin is fun to watch. You don't need to score a bunch of goals to be an exciting hockey player

  • he checked gretz at the end of his speed career! so wht had fedorov tried that when gretz was an oiler or a king would have beena different story.

  • Hockey was so much better back then. I hate the new rules. Nowadays that move on Gretzky would have cost Federov 2 mins in the box. I watched this game buy the way.

  • @lukesepp the way he ended his career with us, i dont see his number going up. plus vladdy deserves it over federov.

  • @GeeTARnugget

Must have gotten carried away with nostalgia there..I totally would put Vladdie's #16 up in the rafters over Sergei's, no question, but if you look at his numbers in a Wing uniform, not only are they worthy of Hall of Fame consideration, its also worthy of his number being raised to the rafters. But, Vladdie is more deserved of it.

  • It should be noted that this is the same game where Stevie Y scored the famous double OT 1-0 game winner.

  • Fedorov and datsyuk r like brother with ovechkin

  • @BigMama3421 Datsyuk next Sergei. Ovechkin next Bure.

  • @lukesepp him and Pavel Bure for the Canucks.

  • @lukesepp I like the enthusiasm and your love for him and I myself am a fan of his, but don't you think you are going a little far with this?

  • @seussremix1395

Maybe yes, maybe no! Im just a big fan, and it's my opinion. That's how I see it.

  • @lukesepp brandon inge is more polarizing and 91 sadly will never go into the rafters

  • First off....wow great quality video! I haven't seen a video with such good quality before 2000's on youtube! secondly if this was in the NHL today its sad because fedorov would of been called on "hooking"! It's sad how they have wrecked the league!

  • I can still recognize Sergei's stride, if there was a smoother skater in the league I've never seem them.

  • @stew918 He used his edges unlike most.... as for best crossovers, Dougie gilmour with the hop!!!

  • @stew918 keith ballard ;) no homo

  • @stew918 I always thought the same thing when I watched him in the 90s. That signature stride of his made him stand out from everyone else :) Heck, he was fast enough he was playing offense AND defense on the same shift. He and Belfour were my favs and I'm a St Louis fan lol

  • Im an Avalanche fan, and boy do I hate Detroit, but definitely have to give respect to players like Federov. That guy had some some fast legs

  • funny how really skilled players react when they get out worked for the puck. Gretzky could have went after Fedorov after losing posession but pealed the other way. beneath him to fight to get it back, that was the grinders job,not his.

  • HAHAHA

    LMFAO!!!

see that cheap ass slash by gretzky???

man, this is why i hate him, he is full of shit, never had any class. goals yes, but no class whatsoever!!!

  • GO RUSSIA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lukesepp 16 should go up aswell

  • @lukesepp He was great for the Wings indeed, his jersey will never hang from the rafters though. I GUARANTEE IT, the way he left Detroit sealed that storybook ending. Mike Illitch had already made comments on this anyway. He blew off the notion he would ever retire his number.

  • nice video!!

  • This is an incredible video. It really shows you how good Fedorov was defensively. He even played defense for a period during the 1997 season. I have never seen Wayne backcheck like that in my life. He's def a future hall of famer. I'm sad to hear about his financial problems though.

  • @chrisconnell financial problems? What exactly happened? i hadn't heard that so please fill me in. Thanks

  • @brianCIM He had a friend invest his money and apprently lost somewhere in the neighboorhood of 40 million dollars. The investors name was Joseph Zada and Fedorov wasn't the only person who was swindled. This was in 2009. I think Mike Modano had the same thing happen to him too. If you want to know more, do a google search.
