In the 60's (in London) I was into Taj Mahal ..... in the 80's I was into Eric Bibb ...... actually I'm into all of them and Keb Mo is also in the mix .... brilliant, wonderful stuff (I'm not "comparing" .. I never "Compare" musicians; it's like saying what is best a slice of bread or a car ??)
the drummer is tight but the essence of the song lies outside of the metronome. the song would be better if it was released from the confines of the "groove".
@beruit6 yes mate I agree for the song. He is great drummer thou.... he a preacher now in the south(south of America and not south of London). listen to the video he is very tasty drummer.
You critics....That drummer is dead on!!!!!!!!!!...Keb just wants right tempo.....I play and .....know tempo is everything......this version makes me want to jump round my house!
take a look on the stage, all you need is a guitar, an amp, a drum, and microphones to make real good pure music.
take a look at the "stars" what they need, tons of technical equipmet, hundreds of dancers, a light show, and still they don´t find the essential of the music.
Yeahhhh ,thirst time in a very long time listening to a original blues sound. (They all sounds the same these days)... btw. real funny the interaction with the drummer.
The mark of a true professional...misses a beat and drives right through it while "channeling" back in. That's why he's Keb Mo and i'm writing a comment!!
@MrSterlinghayden Look closer. The drummer (Lavelle Bell) didn't miss a beat, he was spot on. It was Keb that lost it, and they traded wry glances about it. He made several mistakes in this song, even losing the lyrics for a while. If you've ever seen Keb Mo live, you know that this happens occasionally. It's really hard to sing his stuff while playing it too. His rythm section here (Lavelle on drums, Reggie McBride on bass) always pull him back in. They have fun with it. Keb Mo is awesome.
@wvcottrell I don't agree. I was listening to this performance with another guitarist and we were holding a steady beat on our own, and the drummer messed up. Not Keb'Mo'
I get that you've got to have fun and let loose live a little bit, it's not about replicating the studio version..... But this really doesn't come close as far as I'm concerned, just not nearly as badass with the guitar licks.
