  • One word. Quality.

  • Setzer is one to catch whenever he's in your town. Hope to catch him next Saturday at the Zona Rosa in Austin. May need to pawn something to come up with the dough.(poor musician).

  • Brian Setzer is such a superunknown. Well not exactly I don't guess, because people know him, but he's extremely under-appreciated.

Dirty Boogie will forever be in my top albums of all time.

  • @TheGibbySG Absolutely Gibby. Dirty Boogie is in my cd player right now. Love how sleepwalk resonates.

  • ikemen

  • Devastating!

  • I wish this song was 15 minutes long

  • he is fantastic - a master on the legendary Gretsch 6120!

  • He‘s the best

  • officially impressed

  • pick that thing, man!

  • The sex.

  • what a badass

  • There must be some "black magic" involved here somehow.

  • fuck your ES359 and your gretch, i will take a les paul please

  • @TrueNightmare2012: A Gretsch OR an ES359 would be an improvement over 99% of Les Pauls, so fuck your Les Paul, I'll take a Byrdland or an ES-125 TDC.

  • 音作りも上手いし、何より技術が尋常じゃない!!!

  • brian i am a fan since the stray cats keep up the great work

  • GOOSEBUMPS!!!!!!!!! EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm his teacher :)

  • 1:19 - 1:26 O.o

  • Decent, but why is this labeled "Guitar Rag"? That's a Merle Travis fingerpicking piece--this is Black Mountain Rag, with a flatpick, originated as a guitar piece by Doc Watson...Brian does a nice job... Jeep Rosenberg

  • so how good at guitar do i have to get in order to wear those pants?

  • @waytogodick

Haha! As good as Brian! He does wear some ridiculous outfits, but with kinda talent, I guess he pulls it off.

  • I guess its ok :D

  • In these licks are the real roots of rock n roll. Not blues but blue grass....mountain music. The idea that rock n roll came from southern blues I believe to be mostly a lie put forth by record companies for political reasons. Even Chuck Berry admitted that he was attempting to play this style of music. This man in the video has mastered it in a way Chuck Berry could only dream of.

  • Doc couldn't have played it better.

  • I love this guy hes a god when it comes to his guitar :D

  • This isnt Guitar Rag, its the Black Mountain Rag! Guitar rag is a Merle Travis tune and sounds completely different. lol This is an old traditional fiddle tune.

  • @jonboyrower amen !! launched by doc and merle watson . . .

  • Yeah, pretty much, guess I'll quit now, thanks Brian

  • Brian the best, best, best guitar!!!!!! the best!!! alone or the ex Stray Cats ¡THE BEST! ¡THE BEST!

  • there must be a brain and heart in each of his fingers

  • GIANT CREEPERS lol

  • Brian is the rockabilly king!

  • I love his sound!

  • Belle scarpe.

  • he could write the best solo ever by just using 3 frets.

  • did he ever get a chance to jam with les paul or chet?

  • @budrakerz When he was with the Stray Cats, he played with Les Paul in Blues Suede Shoes and a few other guitar giants. Not too sure about Chet Atkins though.

  • Awesome, EARNED skills! And, let's remember that the great ones among us, now, stand on the shoulders of giants who came before and had fewer to mentor them.

  • Setzer has aged like fine Scotch.

  • @YingJungTV

yes geting beter from every glup you take

  • @YingJungTV

    So true.

  • underatted when people talk about guitars legends he should be mentioned same with Cochran he is up there.

  • rockabily in his fucking veins

  • I really love this man!!!!

  • Brian I love yOU!!!!

  • The Master...

  • he is a guitars killer !!!! i love this video

  • The name of this song is "Black Mountain Rag"...

  • check out Paul pigat aka cousin harley from canada ...he has also been picked up by gretsch and can easily rival brian on the guitar :)

  • God save Brian !!!

  • Holy shit!! Indeed underated!! That solo fuckin melt my face and he did not even pass the 12 fret.

  • Excellent ! Great ! Wonderful ! I'm not sure that Eric Clapton is abble to play this rag with the same speed than Brian Setzer. Maybe Robert Marcello...

  • always loved this guy

  • The most under rated is absolutely correct!

  • F*cking fantastic... :')

  • absolutely great show, in my opinion one of the best guitar players in the world!

  • absolutely stunning.....setzer rules

  • Now that's what I call guitar pickin'!!

  • GODDAMN

  • i wish he'd wake up one day and realize...."i should be playing Gibsons"

  • @jack24showrocks Gretch beat gibsons in any way!!!! Gibsons have better wood but Gretch are fucking epic!!

  • @CoolKwstas123 That is an absurd statement. It's a case of different strokes for different folks and nothing more. That said, I'll take an ES359 over any Gretsch.

  • @CoolKwstas123 It´s about what do you want to play, and wich one you personally prefer. They are both epic. ;)

  • @CoolKwstas123

I really doubt Gibson has better wood then Gretsch these days.

  • @CoolKwstas123 ROY ORBISON had a gretsch with a gibson neck? there was a group called the gretshmen everybody had a gretsch guitar but the bass player had a framus here is a list of junk amplifier brands concordia premier standell traynor vox gibson randell kustom selmur

  • @CoolKwstas123 I think that depends on the guitar player.

  • @jack24showrocks I agree. Great lines, questionable tone.

  • @SmelOdies questionable tone? cmon man. you know the whole music scene is based upon opinon. so its completely irrelevant to say they have questionable tone.

  • @jack24showrocks Don't get your panties in a bunch. It's relevant to those that agree and irrelevant to those that disagree.

  • @SmelOdies it irrelevant either way....an opinion is an opinion.

  • @jack24showrocks Not the same sound at all

  • @jack24showrocks I'm sure that'll happen,..he's only been kicking ass with his Gretch since he was a kid...wake up.

  • @DrThunder9669 woah cool it bro...a man can dream...

  • @jack24showrocks ok ok...sorry man..i lost it..lol

  • bravo!!!

  • he's creepy brilliant and one of the most talented in the world!!

  • Just awesome!!! I'd love to have 1/10th of his talent!

  • He's One of the BEST!!!!

  • Tommy emmanuel playes this and plays the bass track with his thumb at the same time. But still nice.

  • Greatness..........Thank You, again, for this show! I'm subscribing!

  • he's the next generaton chet atkins mixed with doc watson. Chet fingered picked and doc flat picked,Brian is to me a rockier combo of those two. He's the only person I have seen that flat picked and finger picked in the same song.I love his music and as any muscian aspire to play that grerat someday!

  • @ward185 Brian Setzer is good but what about Tommy Emmanuel, he is the master of this so called 'hybrid picking'. Check some of his stuff out!

  • @Listirine I checked out Tommy Emmanual and was very impresed.

  • That's not guitar rag, but i don't care, i love to hear Brian pick anything anything on the guitar:):):):)

  • @welder541 Sounds alot like black mountain rag to me. Either way this guy is a living legend on the guitar. He's so awesome!!!

  • @welder541 Why is it not a Rag? I would do you the kindness of pasting the URL here, but apparently YouTube prohibits URLs in "User Comments" So check "Classic Rag" on Wikipedia. I would like to get your impression.

  • true dedication to the music right there.

  • Brilliant!

  • Extremely talented! But, he makes it look both too easy and fun! That is pure love and joy for what your doing.

  • This little piece I love! Makes me feel good and I wanna party with Brian! lol- never paid attention to his work long ago i.e. too busy with Led Zep etc. Awesomely talented man, that's sure *-*

  • Good playing, but that's not Guitar Rag.

  • WAhat a god brian!

  • woahben@,,, yea you are an enormous douche bag

  • It's Black Mountain Rag -- an old fiddle tune, first done on guitar by Doc Watson! (Brian's roots are showing in more ways than one.) Great rendition. He does some stuff Doc didn't do.

  • Oh hell I just can't stop checking this one- like food for the soul - Mama mia so very sweet *-*

  • How very sweet and clean! F*ck yeh my brother

Rock on with your bad self-amazingly sweet!

  • holy fuck!

    that was amazing!!! :D

  • test test

  • Fucking 'A...

  • Pure genius!

  • That's not The Guitar Rag. It's a variation of "The Black Mountain Rag". But good pickin' nonetheless.

  • @BlShkspr Some people refer to this as Guitar Rag because Black Mountain Rag is a fiddle tune. I think this should be called Guitar Rag Special since it's quite a bit different than Doc Watson's version.

  • @mud409 The Guitar Rag is a Merle Travis tune. I use it in my sets quite often.

"Way down in old Kentucky, There's a fella mighty lucky, By the way he makes that guitar moan"........And it ends, "The feet start scootin' to the shuffle and drag, Everytime I hear the rhythm of The Guitar Rag".

  • Uhm, as far as I can tell, the only similarities between Merle Travis' and this one is the name. This is FOR SURE Black Mountain Rag, which is kinda sorta a Doc Watson "original." (for guitar)

  • These are seriously incredible guitar skills.

  • so much talent in his fingers!

  • @rockabillychickee thats what she said

  • hahahaha

  • No, she said there's some talent in his talons. :)

  • @rockabillychickee his woman will confirm

  • @rockabillychickee

10% of Talent and 90% of really hard work.

    ;)

  • @rockabillychickee FANTASTIC BRIAN I WAS LUCKY TO SEE HIM 30 YEARS AGO

  • Brians version of bluegrass??? Sounds like it. Great playing!

  • Does anyone know where to get a tab for this or anything close?

  • i'm sure all that ink work is like an old friend to him. but you can suggest he get it all removed - he has a webpage.

  • he's HAD most those tat's on his arms since the early 80's when he was with the stray cats. that's 30 years already. anyway, he's got enough money to have them touched up as needed!

  • i personally dont have any tats but do you really think Brian Setzer, or anyone for that matter care. By the time they will be big n blue, ya old grey and dont give a fuck about much anyway :D

  • Actually with modern organic based ink tattoos don't fade like they did.

No one is going to look like a WWII vet anymore, unless he sits out in the sun everyday his tattos will pretty much look the same (can't say that about the rest of him though).

  • Mightee Fine !

  • Fucking awesome!

  • Who's this song originally by coz I want to listen to the original! Brian Setzer FTW!!! :D

  • originally by Chet Atkins, a bit slower but its dope to

  • although Setzer isnt playing in a Chet Atkins style, he's flat pickin' it more like Doc Watson style. Not that one is cooler than the other of course.

  • @smartalex1122 it called black mountin rag..we are probably the only ones who know lol

  • lol yeah

  • Awesome, think I'm gonna go get my gretzch out and try this

  • You really don't understand music Country Boy!

  • and of course you do, that is patently obvious. redneck. hey let's get into a slangin match. lol

  • I would agree with you except the fact that Brian is actually playing it very clean and precise. The tempo is a little fast for the original version of the song but Brian gave this version justice.

  • if hey dont impress you they why the fuck do you watch it?

  • My first concert was the Stray Cats in Indianapolis either '83 or '84. Have loved them and Setzer ever since.

  • @lapistolaphoto I was about 13 years old and my parents took me to a brian stezer concert, best concert ive ever been too

  • Hey, Cool,

my first concert was "The Stray Cats" too, it was in Berlin in 1982 i think. So i became a Rockabilly boy, love Brian and the music until today!!

    Greetings from Berlin

  • Hey, for me...also my first concert at 12 years old with my father...1981 in Nice (France)...incredible...the best ever...Greeting from Quebec City, Canada

  • Comment removed

  • You lucky bastard. I have never had the chance to see the stray cats, and when the BSO finally came to my country for the first time in 9 years, I couldn't go because I couldn't get a day off work :(

  • You all want a comparison ?. Brian setzer in place of ralph macchio / standing tall to steve vai .

  • i can do it better !!!! in my dreams XD

  • what a great guitar player, one of the best

  • Fuck the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Setzer is above the bar . If you are a tone purist, that is a clinic!!!

  • brian setzer= the most under rated guitarist in the world

  • sadly, basterds wnt even put em in the hall of fame

  • yeah the hall of fame is bull shit though, i dont get how he's not in the rock and roll hall of fame but they wanted the sex pistols in, when obviously brian setzer is more rock and roll than the sex pistols or ozzy, or alot of the other artists recently or added in the past.

  • yea i mean they nominated ll cool j, like wtf are they thinking? setzer is a great guitar player, he should have been in theier a long time ago

  • absolutely agree with that statement!

  • @deathofamartyr2 i wouldn't say he's the most...but yeah he's underrated

  • @led96zeppelin well i love the fact that he`s underrated(or not the most), that way his love for music and his soul comes to first place

  • @deathofamartyr2 I don't think he's that underrated. Most people who know anything about guitar think he's a god - and rightly so.

  • and thats how you play a gretsch

  • i love chet too. probably the best guitar player who has ever lived. but chet worked his ass off for every note. planned every note, and nailed evry note. perfect. he was amazing, but a little sterile. setzer just kinda blazes one off. he seems as suprised at what he's playing as everyone else does. that energy cannot be learned or rehearsed.

  • This one's called "BlackMtn Rag"and not "Guitar Rag".He's good, but no THAT good.

Doc Watson plays it much better and clearer too.He was the one who brought this out and made it a famous guitar tune.

Still, love Setzer's guitar style on other songs.

  • but nevertheless its cool:D

  • It's not better or worse it's different. Here you're just saying that you prefer Doc watson's version, not that it's better...

  • Black Mountain Rag is a great tune. I love hearing ANY excellent picker take it on. I still prefer Chet's version, but this one is outstanding, and there's not a thing wrong with Watson's either.

  • ladies and gentlemen, The real king, setzer

  • Amen bro ;) @ smartalex1122

  • amazing

  • I prefer Chet Atkins Version!!!

  • thats crap anyone could do that...

    (joking)

  • I would like to see Brian and Roy Clark play together. Too bad he couldn't have played together with Chet Atkins. That would have been a trio to watch.

  • this guy is really good

  • This is his version of Doc Watson's Black Mountain Rag

  • Shit Brian anymore faster and your guitar gonna catch fire

  • What's original name of this song?

  • Not bad, but Brian needs to pep it up some. (just kidding).

  • I fucking love his pants and boots

  • That's not boots. that is some amazing HARD CREEPERS!

  • very very good ! yeah!

  • I saw him live about week ago.
