  • When the Pointer Sisters first hit, from around '73 - '76, I must have seen them live at least 40 times. Some of the best shows I've ever seen. I hold those memories close to my heart. Thanks for posting this.

  • WOW!!! It's not often I'm left speechless but, WOW!!!

  • Sisters can tap in HEELS no less !!!!

  • This is from they're early days! Thanks for this post!

I have the two album live recording that has this medley on it!

  • If this is just rehersal, I woild have LOVED to see the actual performance. I have the CD... I lovrit, it is an awesome mixof The Pointer Sisters vocal prowress

  • simply classy

  • just an FYI,, had they stayed in this style they would have never made it as HUGE as they did once they went pop.. face the facts, pop makes money, not jazz... they needed to survive and like Tina Turner who went in a different direction once she went solo, and BOOM, her career took off, same with them.. GRANTED, this performance shows TRUE talent indeed and i LOVED it... RUTH hit some high notes as well and impeccable timing without looking at each other for cues, WOW WOW WOW WOW.. AWESOME

  • @leftfieldmind ...purely speculation. Nancy Wilson stayed true to her balladere songstress genere and yet has a hugely trememdous international following. Rachelle Ferrell opted out of the pop scene to continue her jazz genere and likewise has an international following....I thing these young ladies could've remained pop free and still made a killing in a number of markets, afterall they turned the Grand Ole Oprey out, yes they did Country music too!!

  • What is the name of the first that the Pointer Sister sang? I want to see if I can find the lyrics to it.... The review lists the song as That's a Plenty/Bien Mir Bist du Shon.... but the lyrics to Thats a Plenty are not what they are singing in the first portion of the song

  • Unbelievable talent, when will we see the likes of this again? GreaT production, BTW, helps a lot.

  • What a talented family. Great talent.

  • My gosh, those women were brilliant! Thank you so much for posting this. People need to see what true talent is. Brilliance and commitment. Awesome.

  • The female Chambers brothers.and their careers went the same sad way.

  • @gittahfiend The same sad way??? The Pointer Sisters became a huge commercial success. Even though I still prefer this old style a bit better, then there 80's style, they still ruled.

  • their 'retrospective' album was hardly off my turntable from 1985-1988. Pure talent.

  • I first saw them on the Helen Reddy show circa 1972-73 a summer replacement series. They were great and they were doing this. I remember Yes We Can Can as a hit in 1974. I want to see a video of that.

  • Spectacular!

  • This is quite different that their mid-80's music! I've never heard this before. I am so used to there only being 3 of them!

  • @SapphireSister This is when they were at their BEST! not in the 80's

  • God Ruth is awesome!

  • The Hoodoo Rhythm Devils!

  • Yes, these chicks were/are way cool. I was looking for Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and ran across this.

  • WHO is posting this stuff! I've got tears streaming down my face. This is a part of my child/teenhood I kept hidden from everyone!!! Is this a possible DVD in the releasing! Come ON!!!!!

  • Cute!

  • Fabulous

  • wat is the name of this song? is the name of it really called old songs?

  • I don't know what it's called, but I'm pretty sure it's on their first record, "The Pointer Sisters." Aren't they great? You're darn right they don't make female singers like this anymore. I suspect it has something to do with American Idol (and the star-maker machinery of the popular song)...

  • yep it is called "Old Songs"

  • Yes the title is "old songs"

  • Where did you get this from!?!??? You are the king/queen of youtube for this!!!! Pointers doing jazz standards!??!?!?!???! So now that's jazz, country, R&B, soul, disco, and 80s pop!!!! They do not make female vocal groups like this anymore....mercy me!!!! Is that chick tapping in heels!!!!!! Bow down....

  • Allright now!

  • i mean peanut butter stew....just don't assume because she is naturally loud and center of attention at times....then again i'm just a fan what do i know

  • Her name is Bonnie....she doesn't seem high here!....this is her at her best! However, check out when the pointer sisters make peanut butter sandwiches on youtube...she might be there.

  • Bonnie is the one with the most enthusiasm. It was her natural way as alot of "family" groups always have one who stands out and really gets into it.

  • you're an ignorant sh*tbag...

  • is that the same as a womaniser? lol ;-)

  • FYI, she brought alot to the group and they had alot to the group and they were verry successful with Bonnie and second Bonnie can't hel pshe gets into the performacne that's called "ENTERTAINMENT" and If you think that's over the top, you msut not know anything about entertianing

  • Come on now, everyone has their own definition of "entertainment" dont get it twisted, like anything some would of liked her some didnt...period!

  • Holy shit this is just a rehearsal?

This performance is better than anything I've seen on tv in my entire life.

The pointer sisters are a national fucking treasure pardon mah french.

  • international is more like it

  • agreed... international treashaaaaa!

  • I Love it!!! Especially when Bonnie is here!!

  • What vocal harmony! My father's generation had the Andrews Sisters. My generation had the Pointer Sisters. Just makes me wonder: Who will my children have? Or THEIR children?

  • I am sorry to break it to you... but ur children are sol. I am only 19 so trust me I know, that they do not make music like this nowadays :(

  • My wife grew up listening to early pointer sisters records and had always told me how good they are or were . Now I'm totally addicted to listening to them , I want to make every one I know sit down and listen and watch these early recordings PURE GENIUS !! Can any one tell me which one is which as they line up above please ? These girls were 2nd to non absolute dream to watch !! Thank you x

  • ruth, anita, bonnie, june....left to right

  • did Anita stop performing with them in the 80s? I only recall seeing the threesome...

  • Bonnie is one that left the group in the late 70's. Anita has been one of the stronger members and probably the one that has held the group together over the years. I have never heard anything negative about Anita. Anita and Ruth are still touring along with Isssa who is Ruth's daughter.

  • tx, I had 2 much info spinning in my head...it was one of those 'moments'. I remember now :) I bet they're still excellent in performance!

  • it is actually the late june pointer's daughter who travels with them now. :)

  • site ur source, because i don't she has ever had kids.....it is ruth's daughter

  • Is there something I don't know about Issa and June? Are u a family member?

  • well why don't you site your source? Because, if you know anything both of ruth's kids are in there forties she had the last one in 1965. Anita has one daughter named jada, and june had one daughter named issa. So yor saying that issa is in her 40's okay buddy ;)

  • actually you are right, sorry dude

  • WRONG...Ruth actually has 5 kids. One of them is Issa. June had no children.

  • Buddy I know, I reiterated my previous statement about Issa not being her child! I know that Ruth had Issa in 1978, and the twins in 1993. But thank you for feeling the need to "inform" me ;) But I know now.

  • I'm glad you now know. Educating the uninformed is my sacred duty.

  • No, Anita stuck with the group, you mena Bonnie, Anita is the one in the pink dress and she Ruth & June were the threesome you saw in the 80's

  • THIS IS AMAZING!

  • Damn, it's a shame that bonnie turned to drugs in my opinion she was hands down the most talented . Ruth's voice is so deep, no wonder she had everyone thinking that it was a man singing on their hit "automatic"

    RIP June

  • What a classic ! Thank for posting. Proves once again(if we needed any more proof) that these sisters are genuinely talented. The harmonies on this song are incredibly intricate and complex - not many artists could perform that kind of material.

As for getting proper credit, their management needs to work HARDER ! These ladies should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • oh my God, i was just telling a friend the other day that it's the Pointers' management that needs to work harder to get them the recognition they deserve. Hall of Fame honors, all that stuff, comes from MANAGEMENT pushing it. Oh yes. It will be a harder sell with June gone, but...

  • i am speechless...amazing! love it! love it!!!!!!

  • this stuff has me flashin back to my younger days when we went to see them preform this stuff live and hot off the press what a show...they were new and so was the world ...lol

  • I love it!!! Thanks for sharing these rare behind the scenes look at the Pointer Sisters back from their Blue Note days.

  • Thank you for sharing this great footage. I love the Pointer Sisters and this a very rare find. Thanks

  • Ruth hasn't had such a starring role since "Automatic".

  • As much as I like the Pointer Sisters (old style) as a whole, Bonnie and Ruth are my favorite voices...

  • neutron dance, and streets of gold

  • It really is wonderful to see these great performances and hear these songs again! I'm wondering if anyone has "How Long (Betcha Got A Chick On the Side" which they performed on the Carol Burnett show just before it was released (circa 1975). Would love to see that again!

  • Thank you, universuale, you know how I love the '72 - '74 tunes. This is one of the best.

  • *****! Versatile and entertaining. Never get the credit they deserve...The Pointer Sisters are as good as it gets!!!

  • u r right!..they never get the proper credit...i don't get it.......it amazing cuz anita and ruth are still performin....not sure what bonnie is doing right now

  • No...but good performers dont have to. They just keep doing what they do.

  • I think they were at their best when Bonnie was with them.

  • peeeeeeeeeerfekt!

  • awesome footage... luv to see them with bonnie included.

  • fantastic quality. Move over, Andrews sisters!:-)

  • Fabulous! Thank you for posting this!

  • Aren't they incredible? ehhh...well if you're doing requests; my favs are Jada and Black Coffee

    thanks for these excellent videos!

  • please post Fairytale by the pointer sisters

  • 10++++++++++++ My favorite period of Pointer music.

Thank U for posting this it is greatly appreciated :)

  • This is talent!!!!

  • Wow, this was a very good performance of them. It brought back old memories of them. I really enjoyed this one.

  • Brilliant. Fantastic. Amazing. One of my favourite Pointer Sister songs. I can't believe you would have this footage from 1974 still in pristine condition.

  • I was hoping that you found this one and post it. thank you so much. i love it!
