It has oil reserves greater than that of Iran and is the biggest Ag producer in the world, it has assets that can't be sent overseas. The world has changed a lot since the end of WWII. The reason we came out so strong was that our infrastructure was relatively untouched and after the war that was converted to produce items for the consumer and businesses. While the rest of the world recovered we solidified our advantage. Now that advantage is eroding but people seem to mistake that market advantage erosion with inevitable collapse. We just need to be more defensive not just militarily but financially.

I highly doubt that. Though the USA is deeply in debt, it is a very wealthy country. It has oil reserves greater than that of Iran and is the biggest Ag producer in the world, it has assets that can't be sent overseas. It is possible that the US will become a second world country for a period of time, but if worse comes to worse it will fall into a position similar to that of the UK.

The world has changed a lot since the end of WWII. The reason we came out so strong was that our infrastructure was relatively untouched and after the war that was converted to produce items for the consumer and businesses. While the rest of the world recovered we solidified our advantage. Now that advantage is eroding but people seem to mistake that market advantage erosion with inevitable collapse. We just need to be more defensive not just militarily but financially.

Can people not see that this is an incredibly stupid concept? Trade of resources makes some sense but should be done in a balanced way. Otherwise, nations of reasonable size and greater should not import any finished products. They should make everything at home and have stable rational economies. Globalism is not the solution, it is one of the primary problems. Peak Oil will end it anyway.

Yes, there are self-imposed (not market-imposed) limits on government expenditure, in order to curb inflation. ECB policy is to maintain a stable currency. They're doing exactly the opposite of the US. The FED letting the printing press run amok + government spending based on foreign financing is undermining the future of the US.

who believe the "10%" unemployment (people who collect benefits) is true idiot. Real unemployment is higher then that (people who collect, people who stopped collecting benefits because it's done, and people who worked (past, thus don't work anymore after they found a job and cannot collect benefits anymore) full time and part time jobs before the crisis. the last 2 are not in the 10% figures. Amazing how our so called media and government try hard to believe this crap.

so they will 'walk down' the dollar in as slow and orderly way as possible--so basis gold 1000 might take a year to rise
to 1100 or two to 1500 then perhaps the
tipping point will come between 1-5 years
and the dollar will go into free fall and you will see 2000-5000 dollar gold. its inevitable but the timing is unknown.

Explain how the budget deficits jump from $459 Billion in FY 2008 to $ 1.42 TRILLION Dollars in FY 2009. American politics will have to go through RADICAL changes and even that is hard to implement in the land of the complacent. America is too comfortable thinking it can spend irresponsibly and have the rest of the world pay for their bills. somebody out there is going to jettison the Dollar into oblivion and it will happen for sure. I don't need to blame the past, you do. I am not American. I stopped thinking about investing in US about 10 years ago because it was evident that US was heading for economic collapse. I even made a bet that GM would go bankrupt. So, I am not impressed with your CWV.
US are still in deep shit and the Dollar needs to be devalued to a suitable level. 50% seems ok, but perhaps not enough. Then US will be competitive again and the debt is reduced to a manageable level.

bailouts were neccessary. U see, some of us learnt a lesson from the great depression. No bailouts = instant collapse of the financial sector, then all hell would've broke loose. The stimulus is the reason y unemployment isnt at 20 % yet

The bailouts have only stalled the inevitable economic pain. Nothing has been saved, just given more time to not implode. I would've preferred no bailouts--get the economic pain over with.
