well i think does anime's have the character's ended for good, like in code geass r2 lelouch sacrificed himself 2 be hated by all nations so that the world will become peaceful again and britania is saved when he died, same as the case of masane she must end her bloodlust bcoz it was too powerful that it might endanger the lives she was saving i think thats about it,its a brilliant masterpiece

Actually she was going to die regardless because she wasn't the true wielder of the witchblade. She fought to the very end to bring about peace and to make sure her daughter would never have to be in contact of the witchblade.

Because it makes you savor the anime more when it has a sad ending. If it ends badly, people hate it. If it ends happily, it often depends on the happy and how it worked with the story for it to be judged 'good.' But, if you have a sad ending, the possobilities are pretty much endless. Take for example: Elfen Lied.  The ending would of been terrible if it was happy in anyway other than it was, but worked totally great with its sadness.
