My gosh if there was only footage from THE FIRST NIGHT of their Hollywood Bowl concerts in 1964....not '65. My mom was at the first night in '64 (Aug. 21st I believe) and she had box seats with her girlfriend right behind KHJ D.J. Sam Riddle!
@MattHatter there are several features of 64 footage/Hollywood Bowl Beatles concerts on YT. I just watched one. They're excellent. But thank God someone had a projector at THIS show. I was at BOTH 65 concerts. This is something to be archived for all time/preserved beyond YT. Let's hope it will. It's the whole feel of what it was: Beatlemania and the Music.
What utter fools so many people are......raw footage of The Beatles was found (this film you're now watching) and somebody has done a fantastic job of linking it up to raw AUDIO footage from the same show.......and then you have these utter fools thinking that this equals lip syncing by The Beatles.
Paul McCartney really ROCKED on "She's a Woman!" What a treat! George Harrison was truly a nonpareil guitarist and boy, the man was talented! I love it when Paul sings "Can't Buy Me Love." Go, Paul!
to all the people talking about lip sync or whatever, they performed live for real, they played the instruments and sung live, EMI recorded the 64 and 65 hollywood bowl shows proffesionaly, (I mean, soundboard stereo multitrack recordings), and released their only official live album, "the beatles at the hollywood bowl". too bad they didn't use the 21 different songs and only 14 are avaiable officially (13 on the album, and "baby's in black" on the b-side of the "real love" single)
I think the video was "synced" with the Capitol record track. This looks like an old 8mm film (no sound). Great job putting it all together...don't think the sound would have been that good if the camera had been able to pick up their voices.
the 2 performances were recorded, and some of the songs were released as "The Beatles - Live at the Hollywood Bowl." . I'd love to know if EMI/Capitol had filmed the concerts as well. I don't remember what George Martin wrote on the liner notes of the LP
Im gonna try to do all my best to bring these kinds of music back. Right now i'm writing music kind of like this because the beatles inspired me! Maybe in some weeks i'll have some music ready! BTW i'm only 14, Peace and Love!
Is the spelling all English speakers used when America was colonised. The spelling changed in Britain when French fashion became popular in th 18th century.
The American spelling is truer to original English spelling.
@macmaghnusa Keep your disgusting spanish jargon for yourself. I just don't care if you can't see the point of where the 'original' spelling of those words ultimately stems from...
do you prefer qué collons té a veure? we used to say collons in english too, in chaucer's day. I think we've met before on here, haven't we? I also seem to remember us burying the hatchet too. feliç nadal!!
@macmaghnusa Ah, veig que també parles lo catalanesc... Tanmateix en aquest cas es diria 'qué collons hi té a veure?', els pronoms febles són importants, you know. Anyway I don't remember meeting you before over here.
Ever heard of Noah Webster? He decided that the language spoken in the colonies should not be confined by British conventions. The spelling most definitely didn't change in Britain in the 18th century. The ruling class in England spoke a dialect of French until around the end of the 100 years war (14th/15th century) when a social and linguistic rupture with the continent. took place. This gave rise to modern English, a German dialect littered with remnant words from French. Comprehend?
Yep.Superbly synched to ithe live sound indeed.IWAX / HIWAX has done much great work.Shame that since Japan have started their copyright clampdown that he isn't able to share his work as easily as he once did.
they didnt. but they said they wanted to because they were singing, but no one could hear them and they might as well. no one would be able to tell the difference
i have the cd ... the complete hollywood bowl ... and the tracks are exactly this ones ... all gthe words they say ... but i never thought there was video of this !! and COLOR !!!!! thanks for sharing it with the world ...
Looks pretty old, because is this pretty old!!! great sound, great post, we can see it the way one of the public of that time saw it, and remember it, thanks!
notice they are encouraging the crowd to sing along -stomp you feet-then they say they quit cus they were sick of the screaming-I dont get it- thats show biz-Beatles Forever!-"alright George!"-
Well, there's a difference between what the women in the crowd were doing, and signing along with them. The screaming had no musicality and just made playing music hard.
I'm going mad here! I mean I'm off to the Cow Palace as that could be alright, this footage is great but, I mean it's too hard to watch it detracts from the songs, I mean it's like "...she's a women can't buy me she's a women roll over ...long tall, roll over long tall sally..." fuckin hell man!
Maybe the Cow Palace might save us! Check it out guys! See you there...I'm out of here!
The shadows Ringo was casting on the back wall were the closest they ever came to any kind of "light show" - they whipped the crowd into a frenzy by simply showing up and playing.
Wow, this is so weird..it doesn't seem right. I thought they were done with the Hard Day's Night stuff. Oh well, compared to most things I've seen of them this seems strange. And I don't believe they're lip syncing here. And WHy was Rings singing "I Wanna Be Your Man" at the end?? Oh well, nice job! Coolio. BEATLES FOREVER! XoXoX
@TomGrosset look up "you make me wanna shout beatles". they lip synced it. i don't think they ever did again though, since john missed it, and it showed.
This, I think, is one of the few times the Beatles wore those military jackets with white shirts and ties. Looks great on them, compared to when they wore those jackets with their black turtlenecks.
The sound is so good because it has been synched with the 1977 release of the "Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl" LP. The album is a compilation of both the 1964 and 65 concerts. This footage is obviously from the 65 concert. The year before they were still wearing black suits and ties.
