On a lighter note, Turkey seems to be growing more and more accepting towards gays. I think it will take some time before Istanbul becomes a second San Francisco, but it's nice to see progress :)

Now Turkish culture has a lot islamic and arabic values in it which does not accept same sex relationships. It is according to qoran, and now that qoran is man-made, there is no abominaton by God himself.

Have you not seen the most recent news about Serbia? I take it you haven't. The gay parade in Belgrade was called off, they are not allowed to walk around openly in Belgrade. I don't want to pick on just Serbia though - I can imagine the reaction is similar in most of the Balkan countries. Russia, for example banned the planned gay march that coincided with Eurovision.
So all in all, Turkey DOES come across less homophobic than several Christian European nations.

@TurkishAD Turks were not forced to convert to Islam by sword. They converted voluntarily, mainly through missionary activities of the Iranian Samanid dynasty. That's the reason why such words "namaz" are taken from Persian and not Arabic.
And I doubt that Atatürk would tolerate gay parades. He was secularist, but that doesn't mean necessarily gay friendly, at least not in his time. Not yet.
