The glass that cracks on iPhones is the top layer of glass. It's a cosmetic "cover." The actual glass sensor layer is below. If you crack your cover glass the sensor glass still works. You could easily use a plastic cover, but then it would scratch fairly easily. Apple and other manufactures wisely chose glass for the cover for durability and optical transmission over plastic. I'll take a crack under extreme abuse versus a scratched up display under normal use any day.
@monster0022 You can simply use a screen protector if you're so worried about scratches. And it's not like the glass on the iPhone doesn't get scratches.
It seems like this would be able to bend and then get stuck or get creases. Also there's the fact that having a plastic feel to your screen would make a device feel cheap. Personally I rather have an iPhone with a normal display.
@PortugalAir So you would rather buy something that feels good to you rather that something that's durable simply because it "feels cheap" to you? People like you are what's wrong with the world. People like you ask for shiny stuff rather than something that's actually helpful just because it makes you FEEL good which is what corporations take advange of and focus of making shiny useles crap that breaks down perpetuating their evergrowing wealth. "feels cheap"... are you kidding me?
@PortugalAir Are you fucking serious? You would really have the LCD display of some shitty, overpriced, overhyped phone rather than let's say an OLED screen covered with a graphene layer which can be applied to windows, car windscreens, tables etc? Tell me, if Apple started using graphene, would you praise it then? There's a place in hell for people like you. I don't care how a phone feels, it's the features and functionality that matters, enjoy your cracked screen.
