Tommy with an electric guitar is like Lance Armstrong using training wheels on his bike. Ridiculous. Electric guitars are cheater instruments for those who haven't mastered the technique of acoustic guitar, and Tommy's the best in the world on that instrument. How quaint.
that's definitely not true haha, there are lots of techniques better suited to an electric for certain kinds of music, and many better suited to an acoustic for others.

Show me world class concert pianist, and I'll show you somebody who could master that synth fasssst.

An electric guitarist uses his amp as compensation for the decreased use of fret pressure that an acoustic guitar requires. An acoustic guitarist knows he must PRESS on the strings for the guitar to make sound. Give an acoustic guitar to most electric guitarists and they'll suck. Yes, they quicker fingering the frets because they only need to lightly tap, but an acoustic guitarist can pick this up very quickly.

@ReeseMac - Chet Atkins, Tommy's idol since childhood, bestowed upon Tommy the title of Certified Guitar Player. Only 4 peeps received that from Chet before he died. Tommy & Chet became very good friends.
@ReeseMac No offense to Clapton or Page, but Emmanuel has played with someone much better--Chet Atkins. Also, like someone else stated, Atkins gave Emmanuel the honorary title of "C.G.P." (Certified Guitar Player) as he did with only three guitarists other than Emmanuel--John Knowles, Steve Wariner and Jerry Reed.
When they have these like 20 guys on stage its sorta retarded because its gets 2 muddy sounding to many instruments its like overcrowding the poor song, funny thing is i think tommy sounds way better when he's by himself or with another acoustic guitarist, even if each guy plays 1 note at a time to spell out a 4 part chord its still too much sound. Seems to be common in blues/country music. Does anyone else agree? Rush, Cream, Experience, Muse all 3 piece with plenty of sound...but tommy rocks!

Great job! Tommy is such an extraordinary musician. It has to be a tough adjustment going from a one man band/ performance to a lead player in a band, especially one he's just sitting in with on a borrowed guitar. He pulls it off quite well though. It's not the guitar, it's the guitar player!

Seems like Tommy is the only person onstage actualy grooving to the tune...and this is one of Tommys more sedate solos if you compare them to others on youtube.....what a boring bunch of musos...if I was up there on stage I;d be off my face with the groove
I love Tommy Emmanuel. This recording is a little difficult to hear clearly, though. Is someone playing out of rythm? But Tommy seems happy, so I guess it's just noise from the audience...

He plays on A harp... Should be C harp... but he dosen't hear a note he is playing. Sometimes it gets real tough to hear yourself in big band settings like that especially when you don't have a monitor pointing in your direction (like in this case). Everyone look at him strange (cos they hear him) . Lol He probably asked what key it is beforehand and got told E by mistake. Sometimes you play what you ear in your head cos' you can't hear yourself... just make sure you have the good harp heh.

I love Tommy Emmanuel. This recording is a little difficult to hear clearly, though. Is someone playing out of rythm? But Tommy seems happy, so I guess it's just noise from the audience...

He plays on A harp... Should be C harp... but he dosen't hear a note he is playing. Sometimes it gets real tough to hear yourself in big band settings like that especially when you don't have a monitor pointing in your direction (like in this case). Everyone look at him strange (cos they hear him) . Lol He probably asked what key it is beforehand and got told E by mistake. Sometimes you play what you ear in your head cos' you can't hear yourself... just make sure you have the good harp heh.
