@WatchToddPattison Thank you Todd! I use iodophor to sanitize the bottles and caps because it doesn't foam up like Star San. If someone used Star San in one of those bottle washers, they'd have a mountain of foam to deal with! Plus, since the bottles and caps are not plastic, you don't have to worry about iodine coloration. Hope that helps! Cheers!
I am looking to brew a coffee bourbon stout to give out as gifts, (all my buddies and my boss love my beer). Do you have any suggestions on recipe or ingredients? I was planning on using Makers Mark and Kona coffee (I live in Hawaii). Any thoughts? I haven't picked out a recipe yet so I was hoping to get some input. Thanks. Great videos
@jasonjet25 I had great results using the kit from Midwest--if you wind up going AG, definitely check out the recipe on Midwest's site (you can find it by going to the AG kits page and clicking the instructions link). I would image that as long as you had the base malts/extracts correct and some good coffee (which it sounds like you do), you will be good to go. If you can age it in a actual bourbon barrel, you'll have to send me a couple of bottles--because that would be amazing! :-) Cheers!
Your enthusiasm throughout brewing this beer has convinced me that I need to make this in the future... probably going to be after my next brew (some sort of wheat, haven't decided exactly which one yet but that's the fiance's favorite type). Did you end up trying the coffee on it's own? If so, how was it?
@neox79 Thanks! I did try the coffee--it was very strong. Almost as rich as espresso, especially as I had made it with the French Press. If someone were to make it in a drip coffee maker (like the instructions call for) it would probably be a tad bit weaker--but I really liked the strong coffee flavor. To be honest, you can't really taste much 'beer' with this one if you make it the way I did!
@terpsichoreankid Just got the kit delivered to me yesterday. They sent Fuggle hops instead of Tettnang (oops) but they are sending me the Tettnangs. I can't wait to make this... which I will have to because I have no room for any more beer...lol...
Midwest should give you a discount for showcasing their products!
I just started brewing at home, and from watching all the vids, I went with the EZ cap bottles right away. I picked up 70 473ml bottles for $30.00 An offer I coudn't refuse! Cheers!
@terpsichoreankid I just happened to check kijjiji for homebrewing supplies, and this guy said he couldn't make a good beer if his life depended on it! He just wanted them gone! I will be ordering new seals for them, as some of his look a tad rough, with black spots on them, not sure if it's mold, or just dirt, but for a few bucks, better safe than sorry! Cheers!
@flatliner35 Eeeeek... mysterious black spots... Reminds me of the mystery yeast packets that come in some brew kits... Yeah--for a few bucks, get some peace of mind. Well done!
Awsome job. Thanks for putting all of these out at once. I just watched them all in one sitting. Much faster than the brew process. I want to brew again soon so this kind of helps me work up my nerve. What was the name of the company that you got your kit from and about how much was it?
@Imasofat Thanks! I found that I like posting them all together in one big series because I can then find them much easier later on. Plus this way they all show up together in the uploads stream on my channel--I think it's just easier to follow them I guess. You should definitely give it a go--I got this one from Midwest Supplies, and it's $27 plus shipping. I always order multiple kits at a time from them--to save on shipping costs. Plus, then I have more beer at the end of it... Cheers!
Nice video looks goooooood. Ima big stout fun. Maybe not so much java lol. But hey I wanted to ask you what temp do u ferment it at. I was fermenting mine to high and getting off flavors and did the hole bath tub with water trick lol. So I hope it comes out better.
@rickyboy951 I believe around 70 is about as high as you would want to go--the book I have here says ales are best at 68. These last couple batches I have done were actually higher because of my old apartment was the top floor and in sunlight all day long--so the fermentation hit around 73/74. I'm hoping they don't have off flavors--but they should be fine. In my new place, we're in a spot with more shade and our apartment is actually much cooler--so I'm very excited about that. Cheers!
@steeljan Thanks! I can't wait either! Should be here very soon--it's been in bottles for about 2-3 weeks, somewhere around there. I need to check what date I brewed it before I crack one... lol
Which did you use the Iodophor solution or Star San to sanitize your caps ? Just curious. Great video Series BTW !

@terpsichoreankid Yes it did thank you. I gotta find one of those bottle washers, thats a pretty cool piece of equipment.

@WatchToddPattison They're pretty cool--and are only about $20--so it's not a huge money drain.
