  • Holy shit! I've never seen my head that I use in my guitar rig until that first pic.

  • 1:56 ish... bartender or bouncer (i think) "you gotta be 21..."

  • The one and only, hall of fame now!!!!

  • Ah this is my fav version of this rather rare song from Stevie. LOVE IT! Miss you Stevie!

  • The best 10:50 out of my life EVER!! Thanks for the awesome vid! Love SRV forever!!

  • There has been a great bunch of the great Blues guitarists in the history of the R&B and few other fellows that have given the soul to the modern Blues. But there was only one dude that gave for the Blues the licks on the guitar neck that are not repeated in the next few decades if ever....

  • Thanks for the upload. I've listened to this about 10 times in a row, and my jaw is still on the floor.

  • Is Stevie playin' a Gibson? Really sounds like it in some parts.

  • @dbf678 Sure is.

  • @dbf678 i agree, had to be

  • @dbf678 no its not a gibson its a Rickenbacker 375 guitar :) and sounds so sweet in stevies hands

  • This is what ears are made for! SRV was (and IS!) the coolest cat that ever lived!!!!

  • Absolutely amazing, thanks for posting!

  • this is 100% the best sound my ears have ever felt.

thank you so much for putting this up:)

  • its just not right to compare

  • agreed.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOH Man!!! I"m crying from this!!!!!! love this,

  • @gemblues, takes you right to your knees the first time you hear it does it not? He takes the mood up, down, up, down, all with such powerful playing and singing, and for a slow blues tune? Incredible. I bet BB shit his pants the first time he heard this.

  • @BigDBlues I agree with the sentiment but BB is a legend and always will be, just like Stevie.

  • i must ah say that ive never ever herd stevie soo damn infuckingcrediably into this song its the best recording hes ever done of this song i must say cocaine and a bottle of crown do alot of good shit for him then he just didnt sound the same after his drug stuff it was good but his druged up music imo was a lil better rest well my friend we all love you and miss you greatly....

  • "cocaine and a bottle of crown do alot of good shit for him" Still that helicopter did an even better "shit for him", don't you think? Frankly, I've never read a more cruel and untrue statement about Stevie and his playing....

  • This is perfect! A Masterpiece. Thaaaaaanx!!!

  • bb king gave it birth and a meaning....SRV gave it a soul and a feeling....

  • If BB gave it birth and meaning... and SRV gave it soul and feeling... I wonder if John Mayer could bring the healing...send you blues fans reeling. Check out some of his blues stuff.

  • John Mayer is great but i think hes still searching for his own blues sound guys like SRV and Hendrix are just on a higher level I know Eric Clapton said John Mayer is the future of blues but if he really felt that then why is Derek Trucks and doyle playing for him because they are masters and derek trucks has a original sound thats why

  • @axeman1 well to be honest JM probably makes more money doing his own thing then he would backing up Clapton. As great as Doyle and DT are, they just don't have the mainstream pull and crossover ability as JM. You can't really deny that.

  • sure JM can write a pop hit "your body is a wonderland " thats what got his foot in the door too do his mainsteam blues thing and I respect that people who enjoy him ( mostly younger crowd) will eventually look into his influences but blues aint about the mainstream as far as I know and yes I think eric clapton pulls in some cash on his tours and pays his band well and if john mayer was asked he would be there in a heart beat Mayer himself has said derek trucks

  • skills are beyond his abilitys and if you cant hear that yourself listen to more derek trucks johnny winters favourite young guitarist nothing more needs to be said

  • @axeman1 Oh I'm not denying that at all. What Im saying is that JM probably makes more on his own than either DB or DT. They are fantastic players, but I'm pretty sure JM makes more on Tickets sales, and endorsement deals so he doesn't stand to gain anything by becoming a side man, when he has plenty of exposure by himself. Yes blues isn't about the mainstream, but Clapton is as about as mainstream as you can get these days. Not mainstream in a pop music sense, but in industry notoriety.

  • Bottom line here is Jm great singer great guitarist too many people his voice might be better than hendrix or SRV but his guitar work IMO will never even be in the same house as Jimi or stevie and of course Clapton is mainstream hes a living legend and since JM goes to the lengths of hiring srvs old guitar tech why wouldnt he mind taking a bit of a pay cut to play for eric for even one tour it because he wasnt asked if you want texas blues its DB since srv taught him as a kid

  • @axeman1 I guess you have a point, I would play for Clapton for free. DB is a great guitar player, but I'd rather listen to JM and his music, but I aint bustin oon DM or DT, you know different strokes for different folks. Its sad that often the realm of guitar playing and what not becomes some kind of competition, when in reality its all just music out there for us to enjoy, you know man?

  • well put I mean some people like Emo some like polka its all music as long as it moves your soul who cares I suppose besides all the players that dont get any spotlight I even know locally theres crazy talent out there Im tellin ya

    take care

  • B.B king has tons of soul and feeling possibly the greatest electric blues player to ever live SRV just did a great cover of his song and made it his own

  • @cathey40 Well Said

  • Back again. I'll be in blues heaven for the next 10:50.

  • I've got this same concert he played at Lupo's in Prov. R.I. where I grew up. Smokin' great song.

  • he sure is missed. Thanks for the upload

  • I used to like BB quite a lot, but he's time is past. I never tired of SRV. He will always be the best.

  • fucking incredible.

  • This is just superb!

    Thanks for sharing 57'Strat

    Peace

  • Compelled again to revisit this. SRV delivers shivers up my spine yet again. Thanks for posting 57.

  • Glad to.

  • i love it on live tracks of stevie how much you can hear the audience interact and be in "concert" with the music

  • he had it even back then.. I definitely like the energy he had towards the end of his career tho

  • just came back to this one after awhile..thanx again 57..>

  • Your welcome man.

  • blessing and a curse to love this so much and not be able to play it myself

  • Just great! Thanks, my friend!

  • this is so good! has anybody heard "driving south" srv cover of hendrix i heard it once and can't find it again

  • Great !!!!!!

  • WHERE DO I FIND THIS?!

  • so good, i cant count how many times ive studied this now.

  • I like the way he builds the solo at the end in 3 stages. More intense each time until the end. Great structure.

  • goddamn folks, hes not just playin BBK's licks, but hes got the tone and feel to go along with it, that shit aint easy.

  • He's definately nailing that style, but later on you can hear his "stevie" side coming out a bit. Hes always been one of my favorite blues guys. Albert Collins, Freddie King, Albert King, etc. have to take the top slots though. Blues isn't always about who can play guitar the best although someone picking the crap out of a guitar is always a plus...

  • Anyone know what show this is from? What Cd? I would like ot have it.

  • I think it's off "Force of Nature". Recorded in Houston in 1981. he was 26 years old...my god what a talent.

  • I can send you a link to download the whole CD free if you want.

  • Oh wow! That would be great! Thank you!!

  • I would be very greatful if you could send me that link as well. Is it just a recording of playin one of the clubs in texas?

  • Is that link still available? I am a long time blues player "slash" SRV fan "slash" trying to become an amateur collector. I would love the Forces of Nature 1 recording. I have the second Forces of Nature from 1983.

  • uuuhhh yeah!

  • Wow! THis is absolutely amazing!! Never heard him play like this before. Something different. I also never knew he played with a Gibson? I've never ever ever seen a video of him playing a Gibson. Always thought he played Fender all the time.

  • When Stevie was a teenager, I think he played an Epiphone Casino and then for a few years had another Gibson guitar. He played Fender amps in Dallas according to Cutter Brandenburg, but I don't think the Strats came into lay into Austin later. (Although I think that Jimmie passed him a Tele in Dallas though. That is the one found recently that has Jimbo carved into it and the teeth of some Redneck that tried to pick on young Stevie). Anyway, listen to the B.B. King version and they are close!

  • i got this one on cd. some of the most beautifull work ive heard from the bloke.

  • I had this from STUBB'S BBQ live...

    never heard this version...

Thanks a lot for it...such tunes of stevie playing in such styles are so rare...guess he was some kind of respectful in some way to cross the King's style...you never hear him doing such stuff in famous lives...even though I would bet he had been playing and practicing on such tunes ever since he was a kid, a lot!

  • WHOA!

i never heard stevie play like that!

    thanks for this man

  • Hey man your welcome!

  • @Rolandvids You may have been playing in this style like alot of others at the time. But Stevie perfected it. And then took it to a whole other place. I have never heard anybody else play like Stevie.. He was one of a kind!!!!

  • @Rolandvids

It's called interpunction, for the love of god, try it.

  • How Much RESPECT can you have for this man??

    What a LEGEND!!

    Love it...

Also check out the version of Texas Flood live at the El Mocambo to hear him tear out some more sick slow blues....

  • that mojo IS workin'on this !!! thanx

  • Makes me want to record this song! Cool little "Marsh--" amp!

  • Yeah! Stevie did a great BB! I never knew it! Thank You very much! One of SRV acolytes told me once "BB King? That shit bores me!" I guess he didn't know anything about his hero!

  • A cracking slow blues.

Makes me wanna pick up my guitar now.

    Anyone's got a similar backing track? Think it's a 40-45bpm. Can't find it anywhere.

    Any help?

  • Make yer own backing track! Then you can create whatever You want!

  • how to do that? =)

  • play the blues and get on with it,take your time, master your time, give out what you feel,

dive into it and be the blues yourself.

  • I have a once per week need to come back to this. Getting my fix. This is just so really, really, REALLY outstanding.

  • Great video, thanks for posting!

  • No problem.

  • I wish Stevie played more of those major licks, like :14 - :20. I love Stevie, but his playing was just so much Albert sometimes..

  • Hey 57 strat I see your pictures on here so I'm wondering is Stevie using a Gibson on this song?

  • Yes. Hes playing a gibson. I don't recall what kind. Something similiar to B.B.'s.

  • Something's telling me it's either the Rivera or the ES-335. But I'd put my money on the Rivera since I have a picture of Stevie playing with B.B. with a Rivera

  • A-1

  • Thanks for the upload. There a video of Stevie playing this in Australia in 84 and that was amazing. And so is this, this version is just out of this world amazing. Sends chills up and down my spine. Slow blues, and fast blues. Stevie was the complete package! R.I.P. Stevie!!!!!

  • Thanks man. I know a lot of people love it when he plays this tune.

  • Absolutely fucking incredible. Best recorded playing I've ever heard of him. Gotta love the guy in the audience trying to get him to play more aggressively "WHAT WAS THAT??" LOL!

  • Thanks man.

  • the picture.s of #1 in it's early stages of decay is a gem.

  • His playing, feel, soul, and voice on this is just unbelievable. Kudos goes to 1957Fenderstrat for posting.

  • OOOHHH sssssssssssssssooooo SSweeet!!! This is to good to NOT resurface. Oh yeah! I got a BIG tasty bite of this one. I think I'll just sit a' spell and chew. MMMmMMmm

  • I REALLY LOVE THIS SO SO MUCH!

  • Well now I'm depressed. I saw Stevie live in a bar about this time and I don't remember him being this good!

  • mr. big d blues. thank you for this!

  • I want this CD. Where can I get it?

  • The real cd? Well, its a bootleg so the only way is ebay. And you got to wait for it.

  • you can just download it with limewire or torrents.

ive got the rare recordings also. ( even his very first studio recording ever, when he was 15, in 1969. altough you cant download that one, came with a very limited edition book about stevie ;)

  • Do you mean the CD Rough Edges released in 1996 that contains the tracks with SRV's earliest band ever A Cast Of Thousand from when he was 14? Yes, I have that CD! I downloaded it some time ago from the net!

Great rare and amazing earliest SRV stuff!

  • no i dont mean that one ;) this one isnt downloadable, its just released in march this year

  • Any way, I got all those early tracks of SRV!

I downloaded from the net that CD!

It's recordings with A Cast Of Thousnad when Stevie was 14 not 15 as you said!

  • cool, where did you downloaded it from? whats the cd called?

  • The CD is called Rough Edges and it was released in 1996, contains the tracks with SRV's earliest band ever A Cast Of Thousand from when he was 14! It some excellent stuff! You can't download it now cause the link doesn't work anymore (and I downloaded it like a year ago when the link worked)! Now it is sadly dead!

  • AWESOME !!! that's what i mean when i say SRV.

  • awesmome!!! ***** thanks for posting!!!

  • Thks Fender. Many of us felt very sorry yesterday but listening to Stevie makes me imagine him today. Pure talent, only blues RIP Stevie we´ll remember you ...

  • Newhouse on bass?

Don't think I have this one on cd, I would remember if I did!

  • yeah its from the "force of nature" gigs. Newhouse on bass. top stuff

  • Am I making to many comments? But Stevie sings really awesome.

  • Three Words... Stevie, Ray, Vaughan

  • For those who only saw SRV as a Hendrix protege: check this out. Pure Stevie. You can hear the Albert King in it, but above all you can hear the Stevie in it. Thanks for posting this, it's really great to hear. We miss you, Stevie....

  • i dunno...he does the BB impression pretty well too. Still pure Stevie though, somehow...

  • Agreed. He does indeed have some BB King licks in there.(hey, it's a BB song- of course) Actually, to me you can hear the influence of several guitar players in Stevie's playing...not only Hendrix and the Kings but I hear pieces of T-Bone Walker, Ray Sharpe and even Elmore James in what Stevie played.

  • yeah he kinda got together all the styles he could & mashed them together into something completely different that you can pick out from anything. Maybe that's why it's so hard to nail his songs the way he did lol

  • I have the same song.

  • I have the same song, Done Lost Your Good Thing Now In December 1978... It's really rare as well... Wish I could post mine.
